I am absolutely impressed with her knowledge, understanding, and service she provided. I searched through and consulted with multiple lawyers before deciding on her. She is very understanding and listens to exactly what the clients needs are. She doesn’t waste time or file useless documents to increase her bill like other lawyers I have met. She is honest and will tell you the truth about your case, not give false hope. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great lawyer without breaking the bank and wasting time. Thank you Dominique for your continuous help.

I was going through a horrible divorce and custody issues. I had contacted and consulted with about 10 to 15 lawyers/lawfirms befire finding Dominique. I was about to give up and then meeting with her gave me hope. The others were wasting my time and money, playing games and not listening to my needs whatsoever as a mother going through a divorce. She listened, she got things done efficiently and we were able to settle. I am beyond grateful for the peace she brought to my life and the wisdom and efficiency she brought to my divorce case.

I hired Ms. Ganz for my investigation and later court-martial and I have never regretted my decision. She not only fought for me until the very end but also took a huge burden off of me and gave me peace of mind until my court martial. I knew I was in good hands. If you’re ever on the wrong side of the law make the next best decision and hire Natanyah!

Natanyah was fantastic with my case. I hired her 15 months ago before my case even really began. She makes herself available for nearly any line of questioning at all hours of the day. She is incredibly knowledgeable, determined, and caring and it shows in her work. She took on my case passionately, diligently and aggressively worked every possible avenue she could. There was never a doubt in my mind she was doing everything within her power to give me the best possible outcome, shes a lawyer who truly cares and took on my case fighting tooth and nail as if she were in my shoes. I truly couldn't recommend her as legal counsel strong enough. She's compassionate and caring and even after 15 months has been tirelessly working to afford me the best possible outcome. Each step of the way came with a phone call explaining what our next options were, her recommendations and handing me the reigns to choose how I'd like to proceed forward. It was comforting to have her in my corner as she helped me navigate a very difficult time for me. She worked with me on an affordable payment plan, willing to negotiate a plan. Without getting into too many details, I fully believe my experience these last 15 months was in large part because of her. The Navy has never been kind to those in my shoes, giving way to a lot of abuse as the legal process works its way. From the start my process was largely quiet, I was afforded opportunities to take care of myself. Work a largely usual schedule and pursue avenues to seek help and live largely normal. Which is unheard of for servicemembers in my shoes. In some way or another servicemembers are harassed or given demeaning tasks. Anecdotal evidence at best, but I fully believe because I hired Natanyah so early on, and she made her presence known and my command and the Navy aware of her as my legal counsel. I was left largely alone, which was tremendous help during such a tumultuous time. Given the opportunity, I would recommend any servicemember with even a hint of any legal trouble or even questions to seek Natanyah for counsel or to hire.

I recommend her to anyone being wrongfully accused in the Military. She go above and beyond to ensure you get the best legal representation. She treats you like more than a client, will continuously update you, and will also take time out of her busy schedule to call and check in to see how you are doing. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a knowledgeable attorney.

We recently created a family trust and need to re-title an out-of-state condo. After contacting two lawyers in that state, we were discouraged. One was not interested in such a simple transaction. The other quoted an exorbitant fee. Mr. Korkowski was then recommended by a mutual acquaintance. Working with him was a pleasure from start to finish. He responded quickly, gave precise and clear directions, was very efficient and timely, and accomplished our goal quickly. We highly recommend him! He will be our first choice for any future legal transactions .

Darrell Wong is a great lawyer and a wonderful person. I could not be happier with the service I received from him! I received a traffic citation when on vacation in Hawaii, and it really stressed me out. But Mr Wong was empathetic, communicative and helpful, and made me feel better immediately. He has a deep knowledge of the law and is an extremely competent and capable lawyer. He achieved exactly the outcome in my case that I had hoped for, and on the timeline I expected. I can't recommend Darrell Wong highly enough!

Contacted several lawyers in Hawaii. Mr. Wong was by FAR the most responsive - he answered my first call on the second ring. He was also the easiest to talk to and the kindest. Came to him with a traffic citation. He got it dismissed within 24 hours. No petty misdemeanor, no points on California record. He’s a miracle worker - and also EXTREMELY kind. So grateful for him. Hope to never have legal trouble again - but if I do I would 110% utilize Mr. Wong!

Mr. Gallagher from my first meeting with him put me at ease and was thoughtful and thorough with his explanation of the process that would take place. This was a pedestrian vehicle accident with personal injury and property damage. As I told him, I found him to be tireless and relentless in seeking proper treatment and settlement. Things that I was not even aware of. Mr Gallagher kept me informed and answered all of my questions in a very professional manner. He was very easy to work with and I would certainly use him again, and would certainly recommend him.

Mark Gallagher genuinely cares about his clients. He took the time to listen, really listen while I shared what happened with him. He knows his stuff and made me feel fully supported throughout the whole process. He personally returned my calls, not a secretary or legal assistant. He was tough when he had to be with other attorneys but was always very kind and pleasant with me. He listed all my options and let me know what I should expect, that was helpful. I highly recommend Mark, he is one of the good guys!

I cannot recommend Mari Kishimoto Doi enough. She is professional, compassionate, organized, an excellent communicator, experienced and knowledgeable about family law and child custody, and above all, puts her client's needs and wants above her own feelings and opinions. I trusted her judgement completely while going through a contentious divorce & custody battle and felt that every step of the way, she had my & my infant's physical & emotional wellbeing at the forefront of everything she did. Mari was excellent at dealing with the high-conflict opposing party and did not get derailed by frivolous or irrelevant claims that had no bearing on the child's physical or legal custody or on my parenting. Although I hope I never need a family law attorney again, I would hire Mari again in a heartbeat.

I had a case in Michigan for Child Abuse in the 1st Degree, I was unable to afford an attorney, I was given the name of Patrick Ball as to who my attorney was going to be. I met with Patrick in his office, we discussed the facts and put together a plan. Patrick contacted me almost daily with updates on my case and my mailbox had things in from him faster than I could read. As a public defender court appointed I could not ask for any better. Here I am 7 years later and ready to go to get my case expunged and Patrick is in Texas, Michigan lost an excellent lawyer and Texas got an excellent one. Patrick did the impossible for me, I am sure if he can do the impossible for me, he can do it for you. This is one man you want to know, and make sure you have in your back pocket if you need any help with anything. This man comes with a 10 star rating.

I hired Carol Tribbey 3 times over the past 4years...First time was for family court to get life time child support for my special needs son which she worked hard on paperwork, evidence and finding father to serve (since he was hiding service) we got everything we asked for...Second times was to represent me in a child support hiring my ex falsely requested knowing that family court order states mediation first (which Carol smartly asked family court judge to place in orders prior to this happening)...Carol got it thrown out without even having the hiring, ex and ex's lawyer was not happy...I was...lol...Last was this past July for guardianship of my special needs son since he just turned 18years old...Carol had to get a process server for a out of state service to my son's dad and she made every effort to find a Processor in the state and made all efforts needed to try and contact him, which made it easy for me to get the full guardianship because true effort was made to contact him...Carol always got back to me in a timely manner, spent time explaining the process, offering me suggestions and advice, helped me to find evidence to support my case and always caring about the outcome...She treats you like family with genuine care!

When I found myself the victim of a situation whose circumstances were out of my control and a resolution appeared hopeless, Terry and his firm literally came to the rescue. No legal process is ever easy, but Terry and his firm were professional, have unmatched legal expertise, and (just as important) an ability to explain the complexity of everything happening so I could make the best choices possible. Terry and his firm were there to aggressively defend me when I didn’t even know how to defend myself. So now, not only do I have a legal resolution that achieved our goals from the beginning, but I have closure and can move on from a painful period in my life. That is priceless. I can recommend Terry without reservation. In fact, if you have a legal need and don’t hire Terry, you’ll likely lose because the person sitting across the table from you might find him.

I contacted the Revere Law office in early April, 2020 due to my condominium legal issues in Maui. They checked for a conflict of interest in the history and I filled out the necessary intake form. I sent five pages of legal documents explaining my situation. I mentioned the name of the AOAO and the defendant. I had several conversations for the next several weeks. Instead of Revere’s law firm stating at the very beginning that there was a conflict of interest they kept me in limbo wasting valuable time. They collected details knowing all along that they weren’t going to assist me. This is the letter I received from them after one whole month: “I reviewed all the issues and I am afraid that our firm is conflicted due to our current representation of. . . I do wish you all the luck. . .” This message should have been conveyed on day one! Why did it take one whole month to determine if there was a conflict? This was very disappointing that the Revere Law Firm was not forthright. They wasted my valuable time.

I cannot recommend working with Hartley & McGehee on any legal case. From my experience, they were unresponsive, slow, and expensive. After a $250 consultation on 2022-02-14 regarding divorce, I was left with a positive impression of Hartley & McGehee. On 2022-02-22, I hired Hartley & McGehee as my legal representation in seeking a divorce. My case was primarily handled by Elsa McGehee, Kalani Kim, and Alyssa Le’i. 164 days and $5,441.77* in fees later, I terminated the services of Hartley & McGehee on 2022-08-05. Within this timeframe, the great accomplishments of Hartley & McGehee were limited to (1) filing the Complaint for Divorce and related documents with the court, (2) serving my spouse with the case paperwork, and (3) proposing a Divorce Decree which was ignored by the defendant. After terminating their services, Hartley & McGehee waited until 2022-08-30 to file their motion to withdraw, squandering another 25 days of my case. Not only did they waste more of my time, but Hartley & McGehee continued billing me after terminating their services, sending an invoice which included an additional $714.44* in fees from 2022-08-09 to 2022-08-25. Here are a few other highlights from my experience with Hartley & McGehee: • They provided me with misinformed guidance on the sponsor’s contract of USCIS Form I-864, even after discussing the matter with their immigration law colleague. The key piece of misinformation they provided is that the immigrant’s income (including alimony payments) would not reduce the financial obligations of the contract, and they insisted that their guidance was correct even after I cited multiple legal cases to the contrary. • When refunding the remainder of my deposit / trust account, they mailed the check to an old address in the wrong state despite having been provided with my latest address. • Elsa McGehee admitted plainly in an apology to me on 2022-08-10 that they had “been short-staffed.” • They failed to send me all relevant documents for my case, such as email communications with their immigration law colleague, when I requested them upon terminating their services. I needed to pry further with more specific requests, and I am still not certain if I have everything. • They cautioned against getting a restraining order against my abusive spouse because it “may make our communication with her a bit tricky” and left me to “handle that on [my] own.” In an unrecorded call, they also downplayed the severity of my spouse’s abuse and harassment since it was no longer physical. However, my spouse has continued harassing me with _thousands_ of messages and numerous voicemails using _hundreds_ of spoofed phone numbers to circumvent attempts to block communication. • I requested multiple times that we proceed with advancing the divorce in court in order to have a hearing and a resolution because the defendant was not being responsive to our proposed resolution. These requests were ignored, which was the primary cause for this case being dragged out for so long. • On 2022-03-03, near the beginning of the case, I emailed a list of 16 direct questions regarding the case and how to complete the Income & Expense and Asset & Debt forms. Alyssa Le’i responded only to questions #4 and #12, ignoring the rest. * This is a sum of the subtotals, not including the 4.712% tax or the 10% discount for early payment.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
