Ryan was our savior! Seriously! Our daughter was in serious crisis and the school district became impossible to deal with. Ryan came in, calm and collected, asked questions and applied the needed pressure on the school district. He is VERY knowledgable, he understands what it takes to make REAL change and get the IEP team focused on the correct issues. He has the patience required to get the outcome we needed. When the school district's attorney shook his head then hung it low, we knew - the years of sleepless nights, hours of meetings, thousands of emails and millions of tears were going to stop. Ryan had done EVERYTHING we hired him to do. Ryan advised us, guided us, protected us, but more importantly, he saved our daughter. The district settled with us and agreed to pay all of the expenses, including transportation, for our daughter to go to a private school. She is VERY successful now. It is amazing what TRUE accommodations, scaffolding, and differentiation will do for a special needs child. Ryan met with us in the evenings and on weekends. He was VERY responsive to our emails and calls. You won't be disappointed in hiring him.

I had a relatively small legal need and received excellent service and clear communication from Ryan Ford and his office. The intake process was smooth, and compared to other firms I talked with, it was easier to come to an agreement about scope of services. Communication was easy, thorough, and prompt through the whole experience.

I came a crossed Ryan Ford’s website one sleepless morning, panicking and desperate for someone to help my son. My case is extremely convoluted and at times, likely not even believable to those that don’t know us. I called Ryan that day and rambled off 7 years of history, he was able to pick through my story and offer me valuable information that I didn’t know. That was January of this year. I knew nothing about special education law or the rights my son (all of our children) have. Ryan was extremely response and compassionate. My past experiences with lawyers is once you pay them, you hardly here from them again. Not Ryan, I couldn’t tell how invested he is in helping people like my son. If you are looking for a Special Education lawyer now, the likelihood of you needing one a while ago is very high. Not because of any reason of your own but because of system and because of the District that is supposed to stand up for children with special needs but unfortunately don’t. Ryan will shoot you straight and will be very upfront and honest with you but most he will at the very least, navigate you and help you be able to have a voice and stand up against the injustice that happens so often to our kids by the very people we are supposed to trust. Best wishes Ryan you will forever hold a spot in mine and my families hearts!

Initially I had a free consultation with Mr. Hawthorne, and was not pressured into retaining his office or services. I was provided with advice, information, and the necessary forms to navigate the court system in King County. I ended up drafting the necessary forms and hired Mr. Hawthorne to review, revise, and file the documents with the court. He was patient, kind, responsive, and informative at a fair and reasonable price.

Daniel is a great person all around. He worked very hard and resolved my case faster than I expected. With the result I wanted. He knew everything we needed to do, and represented me sternly and worked with me on what I needed to present a strong case. Overall he was a very knowledgeable, responsible, and respectful lawyer. If I ever had a friend who needed representation, or if I ever do again there is no question this is the man I would call

Mr. Merrell is a great immigration attorney. While he was our attorney my husband and I found him to be very responsive and on the ball. He kept us informed of important dates and events and always immediately sent us a copy of all documents, great communication and he was always accessible. I highly recommend Mr. Merrell, an overall nice guy that knows a great deal about immigration law.

I hired Mr Smith to help me with some legal matters. The initial consultation was supposed to be free. But I was told that I have to pay $200. Then on top of that anther $800 to retain him. I did pay the $800 and more after that. During the initial consultation with him he was ignoring the information I provided him and my opinion and also was being dismissive with my concerns. He was much more concerned with being paid his hourly rate than listening to what I was saying. In the meanwhile I decided to hire a different attorney. I will not hire Mr Smith again.

A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
