Chris has been our Attorney since 2002, for various issues. Some were very challenging cases and most recently about a land dispute. He did everything he could to save us money and was very wise of how to handle each situation. We believe he is very honest…and works hard to win the case. He definitely knows his stuff. He’s the man to use as a really great Attorney. And his paralegal, Starla, is very helpful and great at her job, too! We highly recommend Chris Allen and this Lawfirm .

Chris was dedicated and always had our best interests at heart throughout our two-year court journey as our representative. He gave sound advice that ultimately ended up paying off and we "won" our case.

Adam Wallach and Chris Allen, did an outstanding job in assisting me with my child custody hearing for the past year. It was a very complex case due to me being out of state; however,Mr Wallach and his team Starla and Chris Allen were able to give me top notch service. I was informed at all times and they always had my best interest at heart. I highly recommend them, and I am confident that they will give you stellar results. Thank you.

One of the roughest times in my life was turned into a much easier thing to deal with!! It's never easy getting hurt and not being able to work, but to not have to deal with the insurance companies made it a lot easier to unload a higher stress level and give me time to heel up as much as possible! A firm the stood up for me and fought hard to make sure I was taken care of!! A firm that pushed back against the big companies! I've seen advertisements for other bigger firms, but don't feel they could of done anything more then what was done for me!

Lynne was so empathic when I had my initial consultation but as soon as I sent her my deposit, I felt very low on her client priority list. She and her team would frequently not respond to questions that I had, either missing questions in emails or not responding to my emails at all. When I expressed my frustration after a member of her staff submitted the wrong document to the court on my behalf, she questioned my emotional stability and defended her staff as the best staff member she has ever had. Documents she sent for my review were filled with errors, disorganized, and in some instances, were harmful to me, according to another lawyer I consulted. I even had to rewrite the settlement agreement (with no legal training) because the document she sent was unusable. Be aware that she charges the same rate for work that her legal assistants complete on the case as she does when she works on the case herself. While I’m not sure how efforts are allocated in the office, I spent much more time corresponding with legal assistants and her secretary, but I paid the same price as if I was working directly with Lynne. Even worse, for 10 months, she had me unknowingly working with her secretary--not a legal assistant—yet charged me at the same rate of $200. This person was responding to my legal questions while my lawyer repeatedly did not answer my emails. Use Lynne if you want an office to submit your paperwork but don’t expect any legal or strategic advice or input. I’m not sure if I was a particularly low priority client or if she treats all her clients this way. If I had known half then what I know now, I would have hired a different lawyer.

Lynn wasn't afraid to make Arguments to Settle my case, she Was confident, & honest with me about what was going on. I was impressed with her in court, even if it would have been not so good out come... Id feel the same! I recommend Lynn to represent YOU in your case.

Lynne Brand and all of her assistants did an amazing job helping me with my case that involved modifying child support and the parenting plan. Her knowledge and expertise was great, but even more impressive was how she and everyone on her team made me feel like I was the most important client they had. They have the connections and relationships in the Lebanon area to get things taken care of in as stress-free manner as possible - and this was very important since I don't live in Missouri and we had to do the majority of our communications via phone and email. I highly recommend the Brand Law Firm!!

They charged us thousands more than said to expect and didn't actually do much we honestly believe they've been padding the bill. $200 was missing from the payments I made which they gave back in credit after I found one of the receipts for the $100 payment but Lisa was always extremely rude after that. Wouldn't even acknowledge us in the first court appearance then in the second just kept saying random quotes and telling us to be grateful wasn't worse. Wouldn't even recommend this lawyer for my husband's ex wife. Hire at you're own risk but he's pretty much guaranteed to lose.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
