They let you believe that you have a case until they get you into the office and take your $200 counsel fee, then they basically try to extort you even further, just to get them to even attempt to do the right thing. They knew they weren’t going to help me from the very beginning, but that didn’t stop them from taking my money and wasting my time. They would have taken more, and wasted even more of my time, had I let them. Justice isn’t real and these lawyers aren’t here to help you, or to bring light to any truth. They will protect the liars, criminals and the system for their wrong doings.

Clearly, she isn't' all about the $ as another review stated. Tracy was appointed to us through the state but if I ever needed to hire a lawyer- she'd be my pick. She listened to our story from start to finish, was fully prepared each time we went to court, and was able to put my mind at ease more than once. She never made us feel as if we were less than important than someone who paid out of pocket. Super thankful for her and her team back at the office!

Ms. Calhoun is not a lawyer who stands behind her words. She tells you she's going to do something and you have to call for months and still no results. She's in it for the money and doesn't have her clients in her best interest. Take your money and doesn't follow through.

Worst attorney in the county. He should be disbarred and working as a janitor somewhere. Don't return calls. Don't actually care about his clients. Crappy attitude all around.

Ms. Tutterow handled my case and took her time explaining my situation. Some lawyers just want your money and push you out the door. She kept me up to date on my case and I was very pleased with the outcome.

Jonas Law Firm was recommended by a friend in the SBI office. Cynthia (Dawn) Tutterow was the criminal lawyer to handle my case. I cannot believe she read over the discovery, because she allowed untruths to be told by the DA. I found her to be only interested in taking my money, which was quite substantial. I am pursuing a new attorney since new developments have been brought to light. She did seem to better represent her court appointed cases much better, so if you are broke she might be a good option.

I hired Mr. Rhyne because of countless referrals. Let me tell you that this has been the worst decision I ever made. He hasn’t listened to me at all. He could not remember what material we had went over . He repeatedly called me in for a meeting or made a phone call to ask the same questions which used my monies up. He delayed action and procrastinated duties which caused me to lose my child. He never came through with getting me half of retirement after three phone calls and three months later may I add. Nothing at all has been accomplished. The amount of stress and emotional energy used along with money has left me feeling hopeless . I do not at all recommend him to anyone. I now have to save up again for another lawyer to be able to get visitation of my child.

I have had several lawyers when I hired Mr. Rhyne. One main reason is he is a very well spoken person. He is very good with communication in the court room. He will fight for you! As I found. His is on top of things getting things done in a very timely manor. I highly recommend this law office .

After my attorney died, Mr. Rhyne assumed responsibility of my case. He absorbed the remainder of the retainer fee I had paid to my previous attorney by calling me repeatedly to schedule an appointment. At this appointment, he let me talk for an hour then told me he couldn't help me because the retainer fee was used up. He refuses to refund the fees for divorce I had paid to the previous attorney. I've called his office and emailed several times to ask for a refund. He says he'll look at my file or that he thought my previous attorney had done the work he was hired to do. I have proof that he did not file or represent me in any divorce, but Mr. Rhyne just gets mad and hangs up on me. He is a bully and is only after money.

Employed Mr. Friguglietti to establish a corporation for my business. After a few years of maintaining a relationship with him found I was doing most of the work to keeping my company in compliance with the state and paying unreasonable fees for the privileged. His reliance on his admin and lack of responsiveness made me choose to leave a fairly simple and straight forward arrangement. I've honestly not dealt with a service business with a worse level of responsiveness as Mr. Friguglietti's firm.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
