There are many criticisms about attorneys, that aren't typically positive, that they're out for money and don't really care That was not my experience working with Griffith's Law. My case was extremely difficult and high conflict and lasted for several years. I started off with a different firm who I will keep unnamed but is one that likely pops up with a lot of stout advertising, a larger firm. Soon I realized I probably did not have the right representation. I found Griffith's Law. A smaller but mighty boutique firm that is family owned. Quickly it became evident that Suzanne and her team was the right firm for me in my case. This is where Anthony Zarsky and Cailin Degeorge were appointed as my representation, and I was fortunate they were. Anthony Zarsky gave me more than just representation. He was always honest with me even when it was hard to hear. He gave me a clear picture of what to expect which was not what I had been told previously. It wasn't that it was necessarily negative, it was just more realistic, more clear and defined and he gave a good explanation as to why. Whenever there was a choice for me to make, he spent the time explaining the pros and cons and risk's of each. He always guided me in what things to challenge and what to agree on, to prioritize the best outcome. Throughout the case he kept my head clear, gave me constructive feedback that helped change the way I think, and ultimately helped me be a better person. I think it's important that when we're in an emotional state that somebody gives you good advice and tells what I could be doing better to help myself. This allowed me to be more effective at parenting in an extremely high in conflict emotional circumstance. He gave me the perspectives to think through when co-parenting. Anthony was not just good for me and my case, but he was also better for our child - because he kept that as the focus. There were many times that I wanted to give up, but Anthony was my support and kept me going. He truly became a person to me not just a hired attorney, like a family member. He would often check in on me to make sure I was doing okay, would always check in on my feelings, give encouragement. He's a good person and it's evident he's not just a good attorney, he is passionate about his work which makes him even better. We need to be honest with ourselves, when going through a divorce it's extremely emotional and we're not always thinking the best, it's easy to get fixated on the wrong things. He always treated opposing council and party with respect even when it was not reciprocated, in fact he was often disrespected. Always remained professional. Anthony uses a strategic approach rather than being blunt and aggressive. This is not to say he's not capable of being aggressive, but he is more surgical. His approach proved to me he was ethical, honest and made every effort to save money when possible. But most importantly he put our child ahead of all else. Nobody ever wins in a high conflict case. But I am certain if I did not have Anthony the outcome would have been much different. I am so grateful that I ultimately ended up with Anthony at Griffith's Law. It was impressive to realize that when Anthony was not available things were never delayed or left unattended until he returned. It was amazing to see even senior partners getting involved in my case to cover in his absence. The entire staff and everybody involved with this firm are quality people who genuinely care. I have all the confidence that if you choose Griffith's Law you will be happy that you did, your livelihood is what's on the line if you choose wrong. I couldn't imagine myself recommending any other firm.

I went in expecting a stuff lawyer that just wanted to get you in and out. With April that wasnt the case. I felt welcome when i arrived for my appointment. She made sure that I understood everything involved in the process, and made sure that she understood my situation. And she really cares about her clients and wants whats best for her clients. I couldn't be happier with the job she did for me. I would recomend her to anybody that ends up in the same situation i was in. If your thinking about hiring April, do it you won't regret it.

I was extremely lucky to be represented by Kim Newton. Besides being a smart attorney who is very knowledgeable and resourceful, Kim is an amazing person whose supportive communication gave me a huge confidence in myself while going through a very stressful time. Kim always took her time to thoroughly research the details of my case and respond to opposing counsel in direct and undoubted way. She was always ready to discuss any questions I had regarding my case. The outcome of my case was very satisfying and it is all thanks to Kim’s efforts and her professional skills. I would highly recommend Kim Newton as an outstanding attorney.

Kim saved us from a contractor who was trying to take advantage of out of town owners by overinflating his invoice and charging for work not complete on time, and of poor quality! With her help we were able to avoid having to sue him, and settle for an amount fair to us both. She was professional, knowledgeable, and efficient with the time billed for. Hope to not need an attorney in CO again, but if I do, will be calling her first!

Carolyn and her team did a fantastic job in guiding me through my divorce. Mine was a high conflict situation, and they dealt with that conflict beautifully. I walked in their doors having begun elsewhere, but needing better representation. I stated my exact goals for outcome. One year later, I walked away with the process complete and literally that exact goals met across the board. I could not have asked for a better guide, counselor, and representative during the hardest months of my adult life.

Carolyn Witkus represented me on my high-conflict divorce over 30 months, and I continue to work with her post decree. She is flawless in courtroom, delivering the perfect mix of tempered "attack" and empathy for all parties involved. On the legal front, her team delivered perfection; I never worried about filings or deadlines; most often, she and her team reminded me of what needed to be done! She coached me through the injustice that is pervasive in family courts today, and was there for me when I fell apart, helping to keep me together and focused on what was most important: surviving and thriving with my children. She literally saved my children's lives. I would not have survived without her, and I would not send family or friends to anyone other than Carolyn.

I discovered at a very late date that I was uncomfortably close to my statue of limitations for a personal injury case - which I found out creates numerous complications that would not be there were there more time. My case was complex. Mr. Landry was caring and compassionate in listening to my details and he reached out to me numerous times over a week-plus trying to help. Many, many other lawyers turned me down because of the time limits and Mr Landry was willing to take my case even though some of the specifics of it were out of his practice range. He was willing to do simply because he knew that I had a good case but had not been able to find another lawyer at such a late date. He offered many suggestions and was always positive and willing to try different options, and he researched areas he did not know well. At all times he was humorous and understanding. I ultimately found a lawyer who had much experience in the nuances of my case so I did not end up hiring Mr. Landry. When I told him, he was gracious even though he had spent a fair amount of time with me. He then sincerely wished me the best - and even asked me to let him know how things turned out. To my mind, the mark of a great lawyer is one with heart and a willingness to help, as well as a willingness to think out of the box. You will find this - and more - in Mr. Landry.

Ron Ron is handling my post-decree legal issues. He completed a complicated Coast Guard title transfer of my sailing yacht, including getting my ex off title. This was difficult because my ex was living in Australia at the time and Ron got the court clerk to sign the Coast Guard documents and worked with the Coast Guard to make the transfer. Ron is now working on gettting my spousal maintenance modified. Ron has been persistent, caring, and thorough in his representation of me. He has demonstrated the highest level of integrity and is remarkably knowledgeable about family law, working with the courts and with the Coast Guard. His office and staff are pleasant, compassionate and responsive. I highly recommend this attorney.

Going through divorce is one of the most difficult and stressful things I have experienced in my life. Not only was I mentally, emotionally, and physiologically struggling, but I didn't know where to begin or navigate this process while trying to juggle life. Jamie not only guided me through everything with ease, but she helped me collect my thoughts and calm down to where I started feeling myself again. Her counsel (with Robert Voorhees and Tracy Spiegel) cannot be beat. I couldn't recommend anyone better!

My family worked with Education Law Offices over the course of the past few years on a serious matter that impacted our family in a very personal way. They were always professional , understanding, and patient throughout the entire process. As most of you are likely aware, the wheels of Justice do not necessarily move too quickly, especially when you’re up against a very large school district. With that, Elena and Kate and their staff did everything to keep us informed and prepared throughout, and at times, they were able to push us and keep us engaged even when it was quite difficult. On more than one occasion we were ready to throw in the towel but they did not let us and for that we are thankful. I strongly recommend Elena and Kate!!!

Tonight, my family is celebrating a happy ending, thanks to the excellent work of our attorney, Elena Eisenberg. For the past year, she has represented us in a dispute with our school district over their abysmal special education services for our daughter. Elena is fantastic. She is thoughtful, bright, and strategic. We also found her to be very realistic and straightforward with us, which we really appreciated. Ultimately, she secured an outcome that will provide for the services our daughter needs. Elena has done nothing less than help salvage our child's chance at a future. We are so grateful to have her as our ally.

Neil is unquestionably the best business/tax attorney I have ever worked with. As a CPA with a Masters degree in Taxation I have worked with over 100 attorneys in the last 30+ years. Neil is the hardest working, results oriented, knowledgeable and diligent attorney of them all. He is also as "smart" as any attorney I have worked with. I would recommend Neil without hesitation!

I had a bad divorce and it's still not over yet. Elissa Roberts is the best lawyer that I had and I'm so thankful for my friends recommendation. I had 3 other lawyers, Jeff Town, Leonard Higdon, and last lawyer that I hired but decided to cancel. Both Town and Higdon lawyers wasted my time and alot of money. Elissa did not waste my time, she stated the facts and the truth on the outcomes. I was stressed and Elissa made me feel at ease since she was honest and knows her law. All I wanted was a fair and equitable divorce and she was the only lawyer that helped. Also, it was sad and dishearten to hear my ex-husband's lawyer in Lone Tree, CO, during court. If you need a lawyer, go with Elissa, you will not be disappointed or second guess her advice. Also, her paralegal, Kathleen, is great too. They both made me feel that I can get through this, even though, it's hard but they will help me get thought this.

Partnering with me since 2016, she has always given me the benefit of the doubt and scoured the legal archives to find every way possible to best help me. I am thankful for her, and should you find yourself in need of representation, Carmen is the best of the best.

My personal opinion is that Ashley Opfer and this firm were incompetent in our case. Ms. Opfer is barely two years out of law school but is supposedly the owner of this practice. Was told that we had a very favorable case in family law jurisdictional issue after I paid them specifically for due diligence on the law. They botched it so badly the judge called the case "groundless" and awarded attorneys fees to the other side. When I complained and asked for our fees back, they dropped the case and woukd not meet with me to resolve. I have since filed ethics complaints with the Colorado Supreme Court. I highly recommend avoiding this firm.

I went to Stowell PC for an initial consultation and was painted a very pretty picture, I was told my case was open and shut and that it should be easy. I asked what a ballpark figure would be for the cost of my child support modification to be done it, I was told around 1800 dollars but that it could be more. I understood this however when the time came for another retainer to be paid I was only given minimal notice to come up with $2,300. If not paid in this short time frame they would drop me as a client. Also all the things I wanted and was told should be easy to get I did not get. There was a slight increase in the amount of child support I received but by the time I graduate college and go through another child support modification I will have just barely broke even with what the increase was and what I had to pay in legal fees. Also I constantly felt like they were on my ex's side instead of mine. Saying "don't you want the father in her life more?", no i don't, that's part of the reason I'm here! And for the record and just so you know since the modification he is still missing days with her and also has not followed through with the agreement of first refusal, he lies to me often. But now I am completely broke and there is nothing I can do about it.

If you are looking for a compassionate, responsive, knowledgeable, and highly professional attorney, Ashley Opfer should be on your list to contact. I recently went through my divorce with Ashley as my attorney and I am very lucky to have retained her. Ashely was exceptional in the way that she guided me through the process, she was very complete in the understanding of my concerns and always provided the right answers to my questions. She worked very quickly in her research of all my questions and concerns and was able to put my mind at ease. Ashley was very proficient in vetting all the available options before any decisions were made and was able to clearly articulate to the opposing party what our position was. Ashley always was able to make room at the last minute if I had something urgent that needed to be accomplished. I personally would not think of going to another attorney after the excellent opportunity I had to work with her.

Diane did a fantastic job navigating a reasonable divorce settlement with my now ex-husband. The opposing lawyer was very rude and dishonorable and my ex continually tried to avoid turning in financial documents. Diane handled this with perfect equanimity and without a lot of wasteful back and forth. The financial documents finally arrived on Easter Sunday...the day before our court date...nonetheless, Diane was fully ready for trial the very next day. We fought a clean fight just as I had asked to do. We won each point that mattered. She was well-prepared, pleasant to work with and absolutely charged appropriately for the work she did. Best of all, I know if the case got tougher, she had the knowledge and will to bust out some serious legal fire-power. This is not a lawyer that opposing lawyers want to see in court. She's smart, tough, well-spoken and unerringly moral. The judges know that and they listen.

I used Diane for my divorce. In the very beginning she seemed attentive. Shortly thereafter - not any really work seemed to get done. Even to the point we were coming in for our final hearing and was told she forgot that we needed to go to mediation. Child support is pretty standard in Colorado - so her charges and time in this area were no help here either. Just trying to get the divorce - one should be more actively involved and not forgetting proper steps. She was paid well for her time - i feel I could have navigated through this on my own and saved a pretty penny.

Failed to help me obtain a restraining order against my abusive spouse. Failed to present an offer of settlement to opposing counsel. Failed to resolve multiple issues, in a timely manner, resulting in high fees to me. Waited 10 months to file a motion on my ex, for failing to comply with "Discovery". Abandoned me 2 weeks before my divorce hearing. Failed to submit expert testimony 60 days prior to my hearing. Failed to inform me of the 60 deadline, for expert testimony. Failed to obtain the plan discription of my ex's pension plan, giving me erroneous information, in regards to the plan.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
