I have employed the legal services of Gary Woodend on several real estate transactions. He was reliable, knowledgeable and enjoyable to work with. It truly felt like I had a partner as opposed to a lawyer. He always had my best interests in mind. I will use his services again when needed.

Mr. Woodend was referred to me by a colleague when my husband got in a car accident and was badly hurt. They told me that he was legally very smart and had been practicing law in New Jersey for over 30 years. I am VERY happy with the settlement that he got for us for my husband's injury from the accident and MOST of all, I was impressed with the speed of the settlement of the case and how he wasn't like other attorneys; he is honest and compassionate and a man of integrity, qualities that are difficult to find. I am recommending Mr. Woodend to everyone I know and meet.

Our restaurant and bar used him to represent us for a sales tax audit that our former lawyer and accountant screwed up royally. George was able to appeal the matter and save us around $210,000. He used to prosecute tax fraud cases for the government. He words with an accountant that used to be a bank vice president and a restaurant owner. Really knowledgeable team. My recommendation is let them run your audit. Your accountant will just hand them the records and may even make adverse statements that will haunt you civilly and criminally. Amen!

Giorgio is a wonderful lawyer. As a former State Investigator and Tax Prosecutor he was able to save me over 100,000.00 in a sales tax audit by the New Jersey Division of Taxation. He treated me and my family with respect and like a family member. He is well thought of in South and Central Jersey. Giorgio speaks Italian, Sicilian and a little Spanish and German. He's studied in Italy, Austria, and London. I trust him! I used him for all business, liquor license, international law, tax and my friend used him for criminal and municipal court cases. My wife used him for personal injury case. I don't think he does anything like marital or divorce.

Mr. Grudko did my mom's living will and will in 2016. He came to us, because my mom was no longer mobile, with all paperwork ready to be signed. He was compassionate, caring, professional and extremely clear in his explanations of the documents and law. And now it's my turn. I am being accorded the same compassion, consideration and professional courtesy and respect as was my mom and since I am also restricted in mobility Mr. Grudko will come to us. I have know several lawyers throughout my life but not a single one who is more clear, concise, professional and compassionate than Mr. Grudko, especially when clients are nearing end of life choices. His empathy is genuine, his knowledge specific to the situation flawless, and his work meticulous. I highly reccomend Mr. Grudko's services to anyone looking for not just a lawyer but one who has a deep understanding and empathy for what you are going through whatever the situation comprises. If I could give a thousand stars I would!

Jeffrey is a caring man who gave me personal attention and effort on my behalf. He defended me in a criminal case and worked hard to get me a great and fair result. When you call his office he is the one who will answer the phone, and if he is not in he will be the one to call you back. When my case was over I felt like I could not have had better representation. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

My family hired Dana to assist with the filing of my Grandfather's Medicaid application to assist us with his assisted living expenses. Dana's patience, guidance and perseverance to the end was truly our saving grace for a complicated process. Dana's knowledge and experience helped to answer our questions to ensure that we would together a thorough and compelling package for the state to review. I believe it was her thoroughness that took us through the approval process and I would not have wanted to do it without her leading the charge! Forever grateful.

I was involved in an automobile accident had a passenger and the other driver was not insured, my case was very simple because I carried uninsured motorist coverage. When I was fully released from medical treatment he submitted my medicals to my "own" insurance company, later he settled the case for the maximum coverage 25/50 we met in his office on Springdale in Huntington Beach, CA and he assured me all medical bills were going to get paid. First he tried to give me out of $25, 000 he collected on my case miserable $4,000. I told him that there were only three medical providers and how is it he was getting $8,333 for attorney fees from the top. He told me the medical providers were only reducing their bills by if anything $500. His excuse was he was going to make sure they did not come back after me to collect. I went ahead and contacted each provided without him knowing and explained to each that if they worked with me in reducing their bills so that I can get what I was entitled to, I would make sure to get the checks from Mr. Ellman and delivered their payments myself,. I started to call his office and after placing so many calls and leaving several messages with his assistants "Marlene, Julie, Michelle" finally I was able to get an appointment with Steven Ellman I gave him the letters from each provided accepting to reduce their bill, he was upset because not only he was going to have to pay then on the spot but because according to him I had ruined his relationship with the providers. (this providers accepted to work with me because I they claimed they had dozens of clients from him and had not gotten payment) While in his office he gave us attitude and would not even spend 2 minutes with us, he had Marlene Sealock, assistant to Senior attorney see us and gave us all the checks. By the way Ms. Sealock told us that she was about to quit his office because he was rude and that many clients and medical providers were beginning to complaint and he was always hiding to avoid paying that it was a very stressful job working with someone like him. I did not care all I wanted was to leave this office and never see any of his staff ever again.

Retained Mr. Ellman for my case which was rather complex, due to severe and life threatening injuries, that paralyze my left arm and fractured my pelvis, rendering me and my family completely destitute. After 5 long years of protracted litigation against to high profile defendants with high profile lawyers, Mr Ellman was able to secure what my family and I thought was a fair settlement. The defendants were underinsured but were loaded, but too greedy to pay what they owed until Mr. Ellman litigated the hell out of the case and brought them to their knees. Mr. Ellman was there for me and my family when we needed him the most and didn't let the other lawyers step all over me. Althought hey tried with all their might.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
