I’ve retained Michelle twice for major issues with a school district involving the placement of my son and his needs. What we faced from the district was nothing short of a nightmare. Michelle not only worked extremely diligently for us but there was a sense of passion evident as she did. She went above and beyond for us. Nights, weekends, whatever it took. She exhibited the kind of commitment to the case as if it were her own child she was fighting for. She was always reachable. She was a great communicator, keeping us up to date with every step. I retained her twice and both times we prevailed despite many very real risks to that success. I have her to thank for that. We are at last where we need to be. Although I hope my battles for my son are over for good, if that ever changes I would be on the phone immediately to her. I just can’t say enough or thank her enough for being the kind of attorney and person she is. I would recommend her immediately to anyone in need of a powerful yet professional attorney to advocate for their child.

We hired Michelle to represent us for an out of district placement for our daughter in 3rd to 4th Grade with our Public School District. She was always concise, knowledgeable about the process & practical about the risks in our case. Her professional network with public school legal counterparts was very useful. We won an out of district placement in 14 months and subsequent extensions over the years. If there is one reason why Michelle is so good it’s empathy. She really cares about winning a better education for special education children. She cut through the waffle at IEP meetings with teachers. She cares and respects what parents go through. She always tried to reduce risk and legal costs. Her professional network is extensive and personal chemistry with our neuropsychologist, advocate and special education schools make her a lawyer that gets results. Our daughter is happy, making good progress and has a better future because of Michelle’s work.

We hired Michelle Moor when the LEA refused transitions services they had originally agreed to provide. Ms. Moor is extraordinary. Always honest with us and respectful. So knowledgeable on all aspects of the law, regs, and process. She made sure she was not just familiar but intimate with our particular details. Her attention and knowledge resulted in a positive outcome. We highly recommend Ms. Moor.

I am incredibly grateful for being referred to Attorney Maria Lockhart. From the moment I reached out to her regarding my situation with the apartment condo, I felt heard and supported. Prior to seeking Maria's counsel, I was facing numerous challenges with the apartment complex, including issues with compliance to the lease agreement and unjust claims regarding damages and fees. Maria not only listened attentively to my concerns but also provided me with valuable advice and guidance on the best course of action. After hiring Maria, she wasted no time in drafting a demand letter to the apartment complex outlining our grievances. To my delight, the apartment complex responded promptly by accepting all of our demands. I wholeheartedly recommend Attorney Maria Lockhart to anyone in need of legal representation. Her professionalism, passion, and dedication to her clients are truly exceptional. Maria goes above and beyond to ensure that her clients' interests are protected and that they feel supported throughout the legal process. It's evident that she genuinely cares about her clients' well-being beyond just the attorney-client relationship. Thank you, Maria, for your unwavering support and exceptional service.

Deirdre Clegg provided thorough legal aid, knowledge, and moral support for my wrongful termination due to age and handicap discrimination that resulted in a justified and handsome settlement from the company. She was an excellent arbitrator and adviser for me to be comfortable in settling out of court, after our Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) hearing yielded very little results. She is an asset to the Mazer Law firm, which also provided a very responsive support to all of my legal needs. I highly recommend Deirdre as the lawyer you can feel comfortable and supportive to your legal needs.

My husband and I have never had to seek legal advice except for when we were buying our house over 12 years ago. That was a very quick and easy issue to deal with. Recently I had a much more complex work-related issue where I needed to seek legal advice. The advice I needed was based on "a paper trail" being started after over 14 years in a company where I have had excellent reviews and am respected around the company for the work I do. I started looking online for attorneys. Many law firms seem to be concerned with the corporate entity only. Well I surely knew that wasn't going to help me in my case. I came across Attorney Deirdre Clegg is with Goldstein & Clegg and affiliated with the Mazer Law Group, LLC out of Saugus, MA. She and these group of lawyers work for us, Jane and John Q. Public. She is a busy attorney but got back to us right away after my initial call and scheduled a meeting for the next week. She is an amazing, very down-to-earth lady. She knows employment law in and out and makes you feel comfortable about the "legal lingo" that needs to be used in documents and e-mails. Which I personally was nervous about. She made me and my husband feel comfortable and confident in that not only was she interested helping us get the best result, she could and would settle this issue. Of course you must realize that this is not a TV show and there is no resolution in an hour. As with any relationship, work or personal, continued communication is key. When she says "call me if you need anything" - call her. She will return the call as soon as she is able. When she says "don't worry", don't. She's got it under control. My husband and I can't say enough about her and would certainly recommend her to anyone needing an expert in Employment Law. Deirdre Clegg, Esq. and the attorneys at Mazer Law Group, LLC (and their legal assistant!) are there for you!

Elena Rosnov is incredibly unprofessional in all communications. She helps her clients lie and falsify court documents, she drags out all court proceedings to hopefully wear down the other party enough to get what she wants. She takes an already bad situation and makes it worse. She does not look out for the best interest of the child in family cases she is only concerned about the money and draining the other party. How she is still allowed to be a lawyer is astounding.

Elena is excellent. Most can have high anxiety when it comes to family Court. You don't need to hound and constantly call. Trust me, she is working for you. She has her own ways. She's amazing in what she does and her performance in court is phenomenal. She actually spoke for me (unlike my last lawyer) and stated everything I wanted and then some (but i didn't know how to say it myself). They don't take you serious without a lawyer. But their attitude changed once Elena was there, entirely, I mean even when they just saw her. There's really no beating her. Other lawyers don't compare. She doesn't take any nonsense and she will speak her mind. She's the best.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
