Ellis is very professional, friendly, and knowledgeable in his practice. He helped demystify the legal jargon and processes between different types of estates and helped my wife and I get set up with a will, power of attorney, and medical proxy in a short time frame to have a plan before we left the country for a trip. Cannot recommend him higher!

Loved working with Ellis to complete our family’s will. Highly recommend him for his knowledge, expertise, and easy process. I had looked at some other options but once referred to Ellis, it only made sense to have him help us. Again, I would recommend him to anyone looking for will, trust, or other estate planning. Looking forward to our expanding family in the future and knowing the ease to transition to a trust with Ellis. He is one to TRUST!

My experience with Paul Clark was nothing short of outstanding. He was very thorough and knew how to put my case together. After a short time my hearing was scheduled and my case was won. I was shocked, overwhelmed and so grateful after going through the pain and misery of being disabled and feeling like there's nothing I could do. I highly recommend Paul Clark for anyone who needs help with a disability.

Mr. Griffeath took my case without question and represented me with integrity and speed. I was expecting terrible things to befall me for my simple navigation mistake that got me into trouble with Idaho Fish & Game, my first serious criminal law enforcement trouble...ever in over 50 years. I imagined the worst possible outcome...maximum fine and total loss of my hunting privileges for the maximum amount of time!! My case was settled for far less than I could've imagined and I retained my privileges without disruption thanks to the efforts of Jeff. He kept me informed of all proceedings and responded right away to my calls and or emails. I highly recommended Jeff to any and all who may find themselves in need of legal assistance and representation.

Excellent knowledge, he knows his law and if he's not familiar he's quick to learn for your case. He truly cares what happens and wants honest justice. Great public speaker, he is most eloquent. He is also very understanding when it comes to compensation. Jefferson is a good man and an outstanding attorney.

Jefferson Griffith is a reliable man with honor and integrity and has more fight in him than any attorney I have ever seen or worked with. My experience with him has shown that he will never stop fighting no matter the cost. Best attorney for your money hands down.

Wouldn't think they would be so booked being in Moscow as to not even be willing to take a case. But, here we are...never even got past the secretary, got a call back from her letting me know they wouldn't be able to help.

Wynn Mosman represented me in an out of state criminal defense trial earlier this year and I was blown away by his persistent attitude and ability to communicate at such short notice. Mr. Mosman did an excellent job communicating with prosecutors, court houses and myself to keep everyone updated on the case. Mr. Mosman was able to have my charges dismissed weeks before I was summoned to appear before the court and saved me a great deal of expenses and hassles of traveling out of state. I could not recommend Mr. Mosman enough, worth every single penny.

Sandra Lockett has represented me 3 times. First, called me on my attitude. I was still a bit upset concerning the issue at hand. Might still have a bit of that same attitude. Spoke my peace, reviewed Bodycam footage with Ms Lockett, case dismissed. Only took a few weeks (here in Idaho, that was quick). Lockett Law did not yet exist, Ms Lockett was working g for a larger firm at this time. Next, spoke my peace, reviewed several bodycams, reviewed what the written Laws actually stated. This time, we were at pre-trial motions asking the laws to be reviewed in mind of the actions being alleged. Case dismissed. This time, Ms Lockett was acting under her own banner, LOCKETT LAW. Third time at bat here. Local Law keeps throwing charges at me hoping something will stick someday, I guess. We're coming up hard at the end now. Tho I had initial doubts that Ms Lockett would be able to see thru the haze of the Slander and Slur of the allegations, she has given me fresh hope. I can see the Fire rising up in her one more time. It matters not whether your counsel believes in you or even in your cause, it only matters that your counsel is able to rise to the challenge of providing a suitable Defense once accused. The U.S. CONSTITUTION, 6th ammendment, I believe, provides for a RIGHT to counsel I. CRIMINAL matters. The U.S. Supreme Court has held this to be interpreted as "ADEQUATE, EFFECTIVE, assistance of Counsel". I can affirm that Ms Lockett has risen to this standard twice previously on my behalf, and I am now convinced she will do do a third time. LOCKETT LAW, straight from the hip and highly recommended.

Greg Rauch attempted to coerce me into stealing someone's private medical records and forwarding them to him. I am not interested in committing a crime or violating someone's right to privacy, so I declined. He became angry and verbally abusive over the phone after he did not get his way. He began to yell and slur his words, and I had no choice but to hang up.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
