Rob has been brilliant thus far in handling my estate case. I've been his client for a couple of months and he has been the most professional and seems more ethical than any other attorney I've dealt with in the past. He hasn't pushed me into doing anything that I wouldn't want to do, as a matter of fact, he counseled me on what can happen if we took various routes of legal actions, then left the decision totally to me. Once given said decision, he just nodded approval and went straight to work. The situation I find myself in is fairly nasty, and so far Rob has been the bright spot in the darkness. I chose him as my attorney after doing research on lawyers in my area and finding he received several awards, the AV award for ethical behavior was the one that stuck with me and then upon initial consultation, he didn't blow any proverbial smoke up my rear. He explained what he thought were the possibilities of my case and took it up with a handshake. There is something to be said for a handshake in a time when everyone is always throwing up contracts that are hard to understand etc. I find him trustworthy and respectable on that note alone. It tells me that he trusts me as I do him, without a lot of fancy words that I may or may not be able to understand and without either of us signing our lives away and wasting a tree worth of paper on agreeing to take this journey together. I entered this case pro se and continued that path for four years in hopes that myself and the other heir could come to some amicable terms without spending small fortunes in attorney fees, but once I realized the time had come for an attorney, found myself sifting through several lawyers, a few which I have had previous experience(s) with and something kept bringing me back to Mr. Howell's website. After researching prior cases he has handled, none of which appeared to be estate cases such as mine, I discovered a record of satisfied clients, some of which were higher profile cases against corporate entities that almost always have huge teams of lawyers. This left me with the question of 'does he handle estate issues?' The answer is yes. Yes he does. If you are looking for a shady back door attorney, pass up on Mr. Howell's office. If you are looking for an honest, ethical, and professional attorney, by all means call Rob Howell.

I had not a clue who I was going to meet when I came to mediation. Attorney Jon Forehand introduced himself and told a brief story about his background and you could see the patience and understanding in the way he presented himself. I could tell right away he wasn’t the typical lawyer persona. He spent an afternoon helping with our case and everyone was ready to get it settled and he worked to get a resolution and did an outstanding job considering the circumstances. It definitely takes a special person to read people and understand them and then communicate to them like he does. Someone with humble beginnings that doesn’t quit.

The receptionist who answered was very unprofessional, abrasive, dismissive, and openly hung up on me as I was asking for clarification on something and also asking if she knew of a law office I could be referred to. She represented Mr. Herndon HORRIBLY, which is disheartening because of how well reviewed, professional, and well respected I've been told he is in this area.

Mr. Allegood did not look out for my needs at all. He did not keep me informed of anything. I could have done a better job representing myself. I called, emailed, and visited his office several times with zero results. The only thing he showed me was rudeness and lack of concern for my case. I would rcommend that you represent yourself before ever spending a penny on this lawyer!

He did absolutely nothing for the case. The only time he showed effort was regarding the money up front. Never showed one sign of proof that he did anything. The biggest regret of my life was letting him handle a case for my family. A public defender would have done a better job. But God doesn't like ugly and in time he too will see this..... Seriously a licensed thief...

The county servants were rude and ignorant to a gentleman and broke Georgia law. Completely denied an oral open records request. Bad employees are wasting taxpayer money. Why are they anti constitutional law?

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
