Mrs. Jaclyn Shaw was recommended from a dear friend of mine during a challenging time in my life, and I cannot speak more highly of her after my recent experience working with her on my case. From our very first phone conference, Mrs. Shaw demonstrated an exceptional level of understanding and interest in my case. She empathized with what I had been through and genuinely cared. I consulted with several different lawyers prior to choosing Mrs. Shaw, none of which possessed the same knowledge or tactics that she was able to recommend right off the bat. Mrs. Shaw’s strategic thinking and attention to detail was evident in every aspect of her work. She took the time to explain the legal process to me in a way that was clear and easy to understand, ensuring I felt informed and confident every step of the way. What truly sets Mrs. Shaw apart is her dedication to her clients. She was available to answer my questions and provided timely updates on the progress of my case. Her compassionate approach made me feel supported and reassured during a stressful period. Thanks to Mrs. Shaw’s hard work and determination, we achieved a favorable outcome that exceeded my expectations. I am incredibly grateful for her expertise and unwavering commitment to my case. If you are in need of a skilled and compassionate lawyer, I highly recommend her as she was to me. She was truly outstanding and exceptionally knowledgeable in her field.

My experience was definitely like no others I can't express my gratitude enough for the work done and words can't express. Jaclyn and her firm saved my life literally. She was well prepared for my criminal trial and in my opinion the best around I could not have picked a better lawyer or person with more compassion for what she does or the people she represents. She is affordable and worth every penny. A long 15 months of stress and sleepless nights and it paid off in the end.... ACQUITTAL!!!!

Stay away from this law firm. Maegan hired our company to do an emergency service water remediation. She apparently decided that our fair price was too much and she would just pay half. If she acts like this with contractors, what will she do when she gets her hands on your money...

I called Mr. Bitar asking for landlord tenant advice. I left a message and he responded the very next day. I was pleasantly surprised that he personally called me back. Even though my problem was not what he usually takes care of, he gave me advice and peace of mind. He was very polite and helpful. I would highly recommend him.

I was a client of Mr. Antin's on an important matter for my small business. Mr. Antin did a great job of negotiating the important agreements, including the operating agreement. He was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. I would recommend him to anyone who needs help in the corporate law area.

I have known Duke George for 40 years. I, myself, have used his services as well as my family members. He is expensive but he gets the job done. He told me once he can't retire because everyone will be in jail. This man tells you the way it is but he fought like hell for my family. It will truly be a sad day if and when he retires.

Well, I hired Duke 3 times. Was expensive all 3 times. Would have been a lot more expensive and time in jail without him. In the end he’s greatest lawyer you will ever get. The thing you have to remember is what you did was illegal. Instead of looking for a better lawyer which there is none maybe it’s cheaper and easier to just not break the law. No doubt when Duke retires I’ll be a law abiding citizen. Won’t risk it without him in my corner. Period.

I paid him $25,000 to represent me. Not once did he ever talk to the DA about making a deal!!! He also kept telling me not to show up for the court dates, I found out after that he was waiving my right to a fair but speedy trial!!! I never once gave him permission to waive my right to a fair but speedy trial!!! When my case finally want to trial he had me change my plea halfway through!!! Even though the 2 main witnesses who were in the same car told 2 completely different stories!!!! One of the witnesses was a pastor and the other witness was a teacher!!! And yet they had 2 different stories as to what happened!!! Why if the main witnesses have 2 different stories would you advise me to change my plea??? He did not hire anybody to do any kind of background checks on them nor did he hire any doctors or P.I.’s to do something for me!!! He just took my money and did nothing!!! The reason he is so highly regard is because he gets you in prison and doesn’t give two pennies worth about you!!! Never in a million years should you hire this bum!!! He will rip you off

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
