I am very pleased with the work that he has done with my situation. I appreciate the time and effort that he and his team has put into settling my case. Mr. Hans Nilges came highly recommended. Mr. Nilges and his staff were all very professional. They took the time to explain the law and my case. My phone calls were returned promptly. I was kept updated. I am pleased with how I was represented in this lawsuit and the award I received.

I went to discuss an employment issue with Hans Nilge's firm. My employer had opted to not continue my contract. When I asked why I was told there was no reason. The company was based in another state where apparently you do not have to have a reason for termination when filing for unemployment. I had several follow up calls and emails asking for a reason but they insisted there was no reason. Each time I explained that I had to have a reason to file for unemployment in my state. Finally they said just to put down lack of work. When I filed for unemployment my claim was denied because the company had responded to the claim with a vague negative comment about me. I contested and immediately received my unemployment but was concerned the company may in the future say untrue negative things about me. Basically I wanted a letter sent to them demanding them to cease and desist from any potential negative comments against me. Han's firm listened to my story and suggested I open a class action against the employer because they had violated employment rules I didn't even know existed. I did not want to because I thought it would be stressful, but after listening I agreed. The processes was painless the company immediately offered to settle. I walked into Nilges Draher expecting to pay several hundred dollars to protect my professional reputation and I ended up with a very nice settlement! Nilges Draher even had my old company pay my legal fees! The team at Nilges Draher was very kind and responsive. I would highly recommend them.

I have used Dan a couple times for consultations and I have always found him to be poised and reliable. Regardless of the situation, Dan looks at the facts and lays it all out for his clients and develops a plan that gives peace of mind. Highly recommended for those seeking legal advice or litigation. I went to Valerie to get consultation on shared parenting. Very happy how Valarie heard what I had to say and gave an objective viewpoint even if it wasn't what I wanted to hear. She gave me the right tools and guidance on how to move forward the correct way for a better future for my family.

This was my first time ever needing to speak to a lawyer. I reached out to Valerie to answer legal questions I had about a family law/domestic situation. She listened patiently and provided specific, direct advice. When I didn't understand some of the legal terms that were new to me, she took time to explain them. I felt that Valerie took a personal interest in my needs and made sure that I was comfortable and understood her recommendations. I will definitely hire her again and recommend her to my family and friends!

Although I have neer met Valerie, she was a great help to me and my sister when we were in the need for someone from the Ohio area. I spoke with her several times on the phone, and my sister was able to meet with her there in Ohio. She was very professional and cared greatly about our problem. Valerie was always available to discuss our situation. If I lived in Ohio, I would definitely hire her.

If I could give 0 stars that would be better. They did not do one thing in my case. Dan Funk is the laziest lawyer I have ever had. I spoke with him maybe 2 minutes on the phone. Attorney Shawn O'neil was my lawyer at the start but he left the firm and I was left with Funk. He double charged me for the work Attorney O'neil had already done and managed to make everything worse. I live 7 hours away and Attorney O'neil got me permission to attend via Lifesize so I didn't have to drive. They declined that when Dan Funk took over. Then I asked for a detailed bill to see how I was getting charged and his assistant flipped out on me and said why do you need that. I responded I might be looking for other cancel depending the itemized bill. They never sent me the bill until after he said I terminated his representation and filed a motion 2 days before my mediation and sent me an email the night before my mediation so I was left without a lawyer. I do not recommend this firm to anyone. They do not have good business skills and what Dan Funk did in my case should be illegal.

I was in wreck caused by a police offer. Due to terrible laws not lining with logic, I could only go after others who hit me. I contacted this guy. At the time his reviews were a little better(cough). I see they went down. Anyway, he had to go after my own insurance company since the girl who hit me didn't have insurance. Laws, got it great. Unfortunately my other half didn't put a good amount on our insurance policy for idi0ts without insurance. Long story short, we finally come to a close. He has me sign at his home (pretty ballsy in my opinion) to sign the papers that the case is closed and I was excepting $8k ( give/take a few bucks. I'm Rounding) for pain and suffering. 2 months later I receive an email from the this guy stating I owe the chiropractor office little over 1k for the settlement. This isn't my first rodeo, unfortunately with being rear-ended. Everything should have been finalized when signing. I talked to the chiropractor and here this lawyer didn't pay attention to his math. Then I received my ambulance bill of $700 and little over 1k for my christal clinic bill. This guy missed mathed almost 3k, I needed to settled after the fact things were "closed". Luckily my health insurance covered it, except the chiropractor. I had to take care of it myself. Last I checked i had my career. If i mess up, people die at my job. I simpky don't mess up. I shouldn't have to fix others career mistakes. Unfortunately, this guy has a clause in that final paper work that covers his mistakes. Sad when you mess up enough, you need to cover your own mistakes. I call it deliberately done. He gets 1/4 of the OVERALL settlement. He gets the settlement as high as possible. Gets that 1/4 then you get the remaining he " miss calculated". Good snakey deal huh? His excuse was I was lucky to get his rate at 1/4 and not 1/3rd and I had a pre-existing condition. A deal doesn't mean you get to do a terrible job. My condition was a c5 to c6 herniation of 1 mm. This wreck was a c5 to c6 to c7 herniation. C5 to c6 became 3mm. I have never suffered so bad with constant pain. I do NOT recommend someone who gaslights and underminds people. Wouldn't be suprised if he didn't try to sue me for posting FACTS. At least post a bs comment trying to justify his actions. Ps my dude, I can get all kinds of law info from the chiropractor, my other halfs dad who is a sheriff and my sister who is in law. Unfortunately doesn't do these kinds of cases. Otherwise I would have picked her. Just do better. Answered the bs on the pre-existing condition. So did the chiropractor. Clearly you don't understand a what a herniated disk is. That a 3mm is bigger than a 1mm. A new disk being herniated is not pre- existing. There goes that gaslighting again. Blah blah blah. Comment. It is okay i finished doing your work for you. I did the foot work for you and submitted the rest of what you didn't. I submit them several times. As I should not have had to.

Questions? We have answers

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
