I would highly recommend Steven Fairlie as a lawyer to represent you in any criminal proceedings. Steven has a thorough understanding of the law as well as any recent court rulings that could impact your case. In my case, he explained the law and potential outcomes, provided me updates along the way and worked together with me to develop a plan of action. Steven possesses excellent negotiation skills which is crucial in working with others involved in your case to help you determine your best path for moving forward. He also has an excellent courtroom demeanor that commands the attention and respect of those in the courtroom responsible for your outcome. I was very satisfied with the final results that Steven worked to gain for me, and your best interests would be well represented in choosing Steven Fairlie as your lawyer.

Steven was a beacon of hope at a time when my options appeared limited due to my last minute time constraint and the likelihood of a satisfactory resolution seemed nigh on impossible. Not only was Steven able to defend me from the original traffic citation, I was able to receive a favorable outcome which put a smile of excitement not only on my face but also within my inner spirit. His calm and empathetic demeanor offered emotional succor to myself and to my significant other. I am eternally grateful for his service and I hereby recommend Steven without reservation!

Elizabeth Lippey is truly a Super Lawyer as she was named. I could write paragraphs about her and how grateful I am to have found her. I emailed Mrs. Lippey about an extremely complex case involving my brother because I felt the current council was not fighting and advocating for him. Mrs. Lippey took on a difficult case that many attorneys would not touch. She fought for my brother and completely turned his case around and gave us hope. Mrs. Lippey is both extremely knowledgeable and compassionate and will not stop advocating for her clients. She is one of a kind and I cannot stress enough how she changes lives for the better.

A year ago, I found myself in a tough position. I had just gotten a DUI, and as a member of the armed forces I was notified that my security clearance would be under review. My job in the military is my sole source of income, and if I lost my security clearance, rightfully so I would lose my position. I was told that I had thirty days to provide a rebuttal, so I had to act fast. I knew I needed a lawyer with an extensive background in security clearance law. I did some research, and within a few days I had found Mr. Ciuca. Once I contacted Tony and explained my situation, he wasted no time at all. Within a week, he helped me gather all of the paperwork I needed and provided me with an outline of how he was going to draft my rebuttal to the security clearance review board. Soon after, he authored a rebuttal letter for me, and after a day or two, I submitted my final response to the review board. A few months later, I was notified that I would be able to keep my security clearance. I can’t express the gratitude that I have for Tony. He was right there with me every step of the way, and wasted no time. His speedy and well drafted response helped to save my career, and for that I will be forever grateful.

In my brief interactions with her, she was very professional, caring, and responsive. I can’t speak to how well she would have handled my case if I had one (turned out I didn’t), but the counsel she did offer was very helpful. And offered a very reasonable retainer cost. Made herself very available to my needs and questions.

David was there for me when no other lawyers would even hear me out. He helped me understand the process of what was going on and guided me even if it meant not using him and him losing hours and pay. Domestic violence is hard enough to deal with or recover from, David made everything as easy as possible and helped finish everything out quickly and easily. If you’re looking for an honest lawyer, with you as a priority, he’s your man.

Steven is a great lawyer. He takes time to understand what it is you need and then helps you get what you want. Even if he doesn't specialize in the type of law you need he will help refer you to the correct person. He has helped tremendously and he isn't only worried about money as some lawyers are. You can tell he is a good person!! I highly suggest him.

Seemed like I was in an unfortunate position of being handed off to someone who just had to deal with my case that was handed down to them since my original attorney had passed away during the pardon process. She seemed nice when I was able to speak with her but that was usually one out of every 10 attempts to get a response from her over several days. I know lawyers are busy but its discouraging all the same when you see that a text message has been read but it takes several days and more text messages to get a response. The day of my failed pardon I had a 9am morning slot zoom and the meeting was about 3 ?s and very abrupt so I felt a little nervous. I was told to check back at 2pm for the decision via zoom. It was 130 when I anxiously awaited the decision while I wait at a blue screen to let me into meeting. At 230 and several texts to my attorney to try to figure out what was going on and with no clear answer from her I took it upon myself to call a 3rd party law firm who specializes in pardons who then informed me that results were in at 12 and that I lost my Pardon hearing vote. Incredibly heartbroken that the process had to be so long and painful to endure

Very disappointing and unprofessional. I work for a Wealth Management firm, and attempted to connect a client with Mr. Onorato to work on his trust and estate. Even though Mr. Onorato agreed to help our client, he has neglected to return phone calls or emails for over a month. I reached out to the firm and spoke with his assistant 10 days ago, and was told Mr. Onorato would call our client in the next few days, but never did. We feel embarrassed that we tried to use the services of the HOF Law Group at this point, and will make sure to never refer them in the future.

I asked her to pursue some issues, she did look at something since she was going to courthouse anyway. She saw no urgency in my case, so I sent her a long email and a few phone calls to get her to do the work I asked of her. She then pointed to the trip to the courthouse, the emails and phone calls and said I should send a few more thousand dollars. She took my money but never provided documents I was seeking. Client abandonment.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
