Paul is a stand-up, quality lawyer. He cares for his clients and is literally there whenever you need him. He was responding immediately in most cases via text and was always there to guide my brother through his custody case. I’m so glad others had wrote reviews, as that is what brought me to him to help our family. So I’m here doing the same. Rave reviews on our end. I could not be happier with Paul Dolce and his law office. Thanks again, Paul, for being the one we could always count on. We could not have gotten through it without you. Anyone looking to find someone that makes you and your case a priority? Look no further.

I hired Paul awhile back to go after a local contractor who ripped me off. Paul took the time to listen to my case and was the ONLY lawyer in all of Huron County that I could find who would accept my case. Paul took the time to listen, he followed up with questions I had, provided opinions and advice on a case that was very time consuming. Paul took his time and dedicated himself to a case most lawyers would not have given the time of day. I can't thank Paul enough for his time and service. Paul won my case!!. I could not have done this without him, thank you sir!.

Bryan Lamb helped us set up our wills and POA'S. He is very professional and knowledgeable. He was able to answer our questions, including the ones we didn't know to ask, and he was very thorough in the cunstruction of our documents. He completed them in a timely manner, was highly efficient and pleasant to work with. We would work with him again.

Ruggles Law Office did an outstanding job providing counsel and managing the details of my father's estate. The law firm created the legal documents needed to simplify matters prior to my father's passing, then provided outstanding service managing though the process after his passing. The law firm provided sound guidance and counsel, kept the lines of communication open and me informed, and managed well the real-estate matters and a few items that needed Probate Court approval and orders. It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Ruggles and his law firm on my father's estate, and I would highly recommend this law firm for your legal needs.

I called to ask a simple question he was the one doing all the questioning was very rude to me said my problem is I don’t think I should have to pay for anything even though I don’t feel I should have to pay for a question. I asked for his name and he hung up on me. It is no wonder they have such little stars for the reviews. If I am going to pay for an attorney again you best believe that they are going to be the ones who deserve the money. Update: To the responder The conversation was completely different then described. I did not say others refused to answer my question. I said that they told me i had to contact an attorney in the area that my divorce took place. No i do not feel it is right to make someone pay to get a simple question answered after already paying thousands of dollars for a divorce. I was only told that you did not have time to continue the conversation AFTER i made the comment that all the questions you had been asking was taking longer then me getting the answer to mine. so time was clearly not the issue. I do not write reviews to get back at someone. I write reviews when i feel the unprofessional or professional behavior deserves recognition and in this case your unprofessionalism deserves just that. Tone is about 90% of a conversation. I will not say mine was perfect but as you are the business and i am not you should have been less rude and if not willing to help apologizing for an inconvenience and maybe recommending me to someone or at least telling me details of what it would take to have this question answered through your company.

I used Michael Jackson in 2018 and I lost everything and he was my Attorney. I had a severe accident in March that year and he did not even watch out for what my future could end up being like. I am still not working and my EX has everything. My Ex used him and he used another attorney just as consult and I lost everything I worked my ass of for.

I was referred to Mr. Jackson by a friend who had previously used him for a divorce that he was going through and was very satisfied with the results. I was told that when you meet with Mr. Jackson, you will be dealing with a man who is very matter of fact and will explain exactly what will happen in the process. I was also told that he won't deal with any BS and is not afraid to go into a court room. He was exactly right. I was very nervous with my initial meeting with Mr. Jackson but within a few minutes felt at ease and comfortable in speaking to him. I was kept informed and in the end I was as satisfied with the end results as my friend was.

Mr Jackson failed to look out for my best interest in my divorce case including custody of my children. His lax approach to paperwork hindered my divorce, prolonging it and after all was said and done, I agreed on a divorce agreement that after being reviewed by another attorney, was not in my best interest. With the verbage of the contract being incorrect, my ex is able to dodge any and all agreements that were made. His job was to prtect me, his client. I now have to pay another attorney to fix Mr Jacksons work. Tired of dealing with Attorneys that think you want to sit in their office and listen to what "great attorneys" they are. They did this....they did that. Wanted money but didn't want to be aggressive at all. I wouldnt hire this man to clean my bathroom let alone represent me in court. BEWARE!!!!!

I came to Norwalk from New York needing to hire a lawyer to help me get visitation with my son who was with his mother in Fitchville. This was in the Early 1980's. George Ford did nothing but take my money, drag things out and lie to me. See Mr. Ford, I never forget someone who ripped me off! You should be disbarred if you haven't already been.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
