I am very happy that I was referred to Ed Fitterer. He successfully defended several serious motor vehicle violations for me. I was very comfortable with his ability to explain the municipal court process to me throughout the numerous court hearings we were required to attend. At each step along the way, I felt comfortable with Ed’s ability to obtain the best result possible given the circumstances at hand. Thank you Ed and Mary Beth. Matt

Ed's ability to break down real estate contracts is amazing. He really helps buyers and sellers (and renters and lease-ers) understand what they are signing, and helps advocate for the best terms possible. You will definitely understand what you are signing if you work with Ed!

Mr. Rescinio is definitely the BEST, understands that bad things happen to Really good people. His knowledge and experience made all the difference for me recently in a DWI case. Mr. Rescinio and his staff worked endless hours and kept communication flowing through the whole process, in fact while we were in court several people approached him asking for his business cards. I would recommend him hands down to all of my friends and family his professionalism in the court room was very impressive also seeing the respect all his peers showed when he entered was impressive not just to me but also everyone else, even the judge. I will only ever hire Mr. Rescinio, for all of my future attorney needs.

Speaking honestly of Mr. Albert Rescinio as an attorney, he is an extremely understanding, considerate, cooperative and straightforward attorney that assisted me with my cases with a passionate trust based on my financial situation in him defending me, especially when I had two cases at the same time..... Mr. Rescinio was also immediately there at my request during another case which arised unexpectely. Mr. Rescinio gave me tremendous faith when I didn't feel I would get through my legal matters! My God bless Mr. Albert Rescinio and his staff!!!!

David handled my divorce matters a number of years ago. He was the best! He not only represented me legally, he truly cared at a time that I needed it most. I knew without any doubt that I had an excellent and committed representative in my corner. David went above and beyond the call of duty to be there for me. His advice was spot on, and he helped guide me through one of the toughest experiences of my life. Sadly I picked another lawyer, who by the blessing of God (I believe), gave my case to John and his Firm, who immediately hit the ground running and was able to get my case settled Finally. They care about their clients, they have a team like no other, they are well know in the system and respected as well, but what won me over was HONESTY!! John and his firm well tell you the truth about your case, the bottom line and not string you along with empty promises. I wish I would have found John and his firm first, I know it would have saved me years of pain and anguish. Thank you guys again. FANTASTIC FIRM!!

Had to take care of a situation with my son's driving and met with John at his office. He informed us of what was involved in case and our options. He is very personable and easy to talk to so we hired him. We met him outside the courtroom and he explained again what he was going to do in court. He did what he said he was going to do with favorable results. He is very good in court. As we were leaving a woman asked us for his info as she was impressed with his passion for his client's legal rights. I hope we don't need any legal services any time soon but if we do I will be calling John.

I hired Mr. Honecker back in March 2016. I was falsely accused by my ex wife of pushing her. This was all because I served her with divorce papers. I never was arrested a day in my life. Always been a law abiding citizen. This was also an attempt to mess up my chances of being a law enforcement officer by my ex. Mr. Honecker was an amazing attorney. Sometimes I didn't understand some of the things he was doing and I questioned it. But it all worked out for the good. It should not have taken 5 months to clear me of all these charges, but due to a lot of adjournments by my ex and Mr. Honecker it did. My ex placed a stun gun in my vehicle and called the police while she had a temporary restraining order on me. The contempt charges were due to her setting up my mother to call and discuss money and I was arrested for 3rd party etc. In the end all charges were dismissed against me as of August 10, 2016. Last thing will be getting my firearms back in two weeks. I am sure that will be no issue. He is great at what he do and he does not hassle you for money. He does so well for you that you want to pay him extra. So yes I approve of Mr. Honecker and will hire him any day! Just hope and pray I don't have to use him again lol.

I hired Mr. Honecker because he had many years experience with the Monmouth County (NJ) Prosecutor's Office; now he is a partner in a large law firm; I was accused by my landlord of assault...I had made a police report recounting how the LL gained entry by ruse, and began to berate me because I had an infestation problem he thought should have been rectified immediately, if not sooner. I am handicapped and totally disabled living on a small Social Security Disability Award; it took me several mos. to interview a no. of exterminators and to save money; I reacted to the LL's ignorance by verbally abusing him...I just wanted to make a record of the incident, but the LL preferred charges. Mr. Honecker met w/the municipal court prosecutor and the plaintiff...in short, the LL had no case and the charge was dismissed in its entirety. Mr. Honecker is very unassuming, but he knows how to present his facts in a professional matter; he had my best interests in his heart and mind; he showed the LL acted in a provocative manner, and it was reasonable for me to respond accordingly. I have met others who have engaged Mr. Honecker, and they told me how much of an outstanding outcome he obtained for them. I highly recommend this attorney to anyone who is facing a municipal court charge, as well as more serious crimes. He has been named a "NJ Super Lawyer" 2010-12. He truly is an excellent attorney, and more importantly, a compassionate gentleman! I can't say enough!

We have enlisted Al’s expertise over the last 6 years and highly recommend him. He may keep a low profile, but behind the scenes he is working very hard for his clients which is obvious in the outcome of his cases. Even a judge in our case commented that we were very lucky to have such a good attorney. Al digs into all the details, asks all the right questions and thinks outside the box to consider every option to benefit his client. Life is unpredictable but we are secure in knowing that if we need a lawyer in the future, we have one we can trust..

His loyalty lies with prosecutors and staying in their good graces, he pretends to put on a good show for clients though he does not have their interests at heart. Also overcharging and sends exorbitant billing for services afterwards not discussed or rendered. I discourage anyone in need of strong attorney support from hiring this lawyer. He'll gladly chuckle it up with opposing counsel as well to make his clients feel extremely uneasy. Overall opinion: Not honest. Overpriced.

I cannot say enough positive things regarding Mr. Ansell. After facing a serious drug charge and a possible license suspension for a DUI (D) I knew I had to hire a lawyer with an excellent reputation and was in good standing with both local law enforcement and judges. I called and immediately made an appointment for a consultation. He reassured me that he could possibly get the charges either dismissed or a not guilty verdict although legally no guarantee can be made. Any lawyer worth their weight will agree. Throughout the case he kept me up to date and informed in addition to calming my worries. My case, however, did drag on for a substantially long time through no fault of his but the State's. Each time we met for court and discussed the case, he made me feel as though my case truly mattered not only to me, but him as well. He fought for me vigorously. In the end the DUI was dismissed and I was found not guilty of the more serious offense. Mr. Ansell is worth every penny and then some.

Peter didn't fight for us on our house closing. Didn't look up the sellers information and history to see what the house was being used for. Didn't return our calls or reach out to us when new information arose. When we called him after 2 weeks of not hearing from him he yelled at us to stop bothering him and if we kept calling would have to charge us per the hour. This is our second house, and would NEVER use Peter again. Very hard to communicate with which was frustrating as we needed to close in a set period of time. I would never recommend him or his firm to anyone, even if I hated you. Stay away!

She charges $300 for a consultation, which i am happy to report was refunded to me after I wrote her an email. Her advice was the worst advice I have ever heard, lacked complete common sense and she justified part of it by saying "well I can't get my husband to do homework with my kids and we are married". Does anyone really care what her husband does or does not do?? She was arrogant, pompus and did not have one productive thing to say. She told me she takes a $15000 retainer and that it could be much more depending. I would not pay this woman $3.00 to represent me and would sooner represent myself. This was a post divorce action, unfortunatly my attorney passed away and I needed to find someone else. Save your money & time and seek counsel elsewhere. She charges $300 for a consultation fee - what a complete waste of money that could have been had I not written her demanding she refund my money for the horrible advice she gave. Unreal.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
