We are a couple from British Columbia that had purchased a recreational cottage on the US side of the border in Oroville, WA a few years back. The developer missed the completion target which put them in default with the Purchase Agreement. The new dates were not agreeable to us, so we decided to let the agreement default and not proceed and get our deposit money returned. The developer's attorney argued on several legal doctrines that we should be forced to proceed despite the default with the agreement. Dale was our representative as we worked through the normal process of back and forth posturing and arguing that eventually led to binding arbitration. The eventual decision favoured us 100% - we received our earnest money back, they paid the arbitration fee and our lawyer's fees. Dale is extremely capable and showed this in high contrast to counsel from the other side. He made the process very straightforward and also showed extreme patience with us as we worked through a long and complicated process. We would highly recommend Dale as a very capable attorney. Ms. Reinbold represented me in my divorce. It was a long protracted process and involved business and personal assets. There were other complex issues she had to deal with and she faced highly paid, seasoned attorneys from Seattle, Spokane and other large markets. These attorneys tried to use various tactics to give my ex-wife unfair advantages. She beat them all... not one issue did she lose even though some cited cases used against us were not presented until trial. If you want a fighter who thinks quick on her feet I highly recommend Ms. Reinbold.

The best decision that I have made in a while was hiring Leone Reinbold as my lawyer. She was excellent in all aspects answered or replied to all my calls and concerns. She is also a great person truly listens to her clients and continues to keep in touch after proving me innocent in a difficult trial. Definitely recommend her and her firm in any situation.

Exceptionally helpful with her vast knowledge, prompt in her response, and incredibly valuable in her ability to work quickly to meet my needs. One of the skillsets Leone has that I find continuously resourceful is her talent to communicate the intricacies of the law to me in language that I can understand and retain. Generous with her attention and a powerhouse of passion.

You can not trust these people they lie and we all know lawyers are liar's and they don't care about anything about the family of the deceased and I am so tired and watching my sister loose her mind over this. I hope you have a blessed day and I love you and how hard you worked for the money you got put of it. I hope that you and your family and friends never use you cause you are not for the families and it's all what you are going to get. I hope you have a good day and a and yourget to feel God's wrath for all the lies..

They don't always fallow rcw law in this court, so you cannot defend yourself and no lawyer can either. Then they fine you.

We hired this lawyer to help us evict a tenant late last summer and now it's the first of the year. We can't ever get ahold of him, we leave numerous messages and he doesn't return our calls. This is a huge financial burden on us. It's extremely frustrating.

As a client of Chancey both in the position as plaintiff and defendant, I find that people who write bad reviews of Chancey are the ones that lost in a case that he represented and they where not the ones he was representing. They are also the ones who think they are above the law being fairly applied, (such as possibly former officers of the law) and who may avoid following the county and state laws in may instances which is why they are in court in the first place.

After the first meeting with Chancey he was extremely bad at keeping us informed, returning calls, disorganized, many, many mistakes on paper work in which we would have to correct and then be charged for. Took almost a year to take our simple case to court and now we are forced to hire another lawyer to fix what we now have learned he didn’t do correctly. Wish we could get our time and money back.

I thought attorney's are supposed to defend their clients. She did the exact opposite to me in court last month. I thought I was lucky she actually showed up to my hearing this last time, I was terribly wrong. For a year she hasn't been present for my hearings, but I was finally able to reach her a week before my hearing and she said it was going to all be okay. I thought we had discussed a plan of action for court. On the day of my court she threw my under the bus to the judge saying I never contact her and haven't in months and she has no idea what I've really been up to. So the judge decided to be less lenient on me then he was originally going to be. I will be switching counsel because of this last hearing. She didn't sound like someone defending me. I was humiliated in court and punished by my own attorney. She is the WORST, don't waste your time or money.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
