I was very fortunate to have Allison’s expertise in guiding me through the living will estate planning process, including updating my will and POA, after recently going through a life-altering situation. As a single mom, I was quite concerned about the impact to my children if something were to happen to me so it was important to have my affairs in order, and my mind at ease. Allison took the time to listen, offered great insight, and explained every step of the process in a clear and concise manner which allowed me to carefully think about the choices I needed to make now that could affect my children in the future. Allison was very patient, organized and knowledgeable. The office staff was professional, yet very kind, at all times. Everyone at Floman DePaola who assisted me during this process truly helped make a stressful undertaking seem less daunting.

We needed an attorney to review our elderly mother's estate planning documents, as they haven't been reviewed in almost 15 years. Allison, from the initial contact through the signing of new documents, was incredibly prompt in her responses, professional and extremely knowledgeable. She reviewed our paperwork at no cost, and then made some recommendations for us. We hired Allison to draft a Power of Attorney and a new Health Care Directive, as the laws have changed quite a bit over the past 10 years or so. The cost was very reasonable but more importantly, Allison's "bedside manner" with my mother was nothing short of fantastic. Sensitive to how this type of planning can affect some elderly people, Allison made it VERY easy for our mother to understand what she was signing and why. She showed compassion, understanding and above all, patience. Without question, I would recommend this attorney (and her staff) to anyone who needs estate planning or really any planning for that matter where a lawyer that actually knows law, is needed. We are thrilled to have found Allison, and we will use her from now on for any and all attorney/client needs.

I contacted Scott to ask him about my real estate contract that I wanted to get out of due to the realtors unprofessional performance. He looked at the contract and gave me a point by point explanation of what my options were. I was so grateful that I did get out of the contract and was happy that I had the legal side of it sorted. Thank you so much Scott!

We hired Scott to represent us in the sale of our home based on his reputation as an attorney who can be relied upon to close the deal. Sure enough, like Mariano Rivera in the ninth, he got us through the final stretch and sealed it up as scheduled. My family's decision to put the ball in his hand felt like a big save for us.

Let me put it this way. Tracey interviewed one witness for over 90 minutes, and the other side wanted to settle. Her knowledge of my case went back 15 years, & she found all the evidence and history of the other party with incredible research! Tracey's assistant Brooke was also an incredible researcher, and they were both always available, 7 days a week if I had to reach them with new important information or concerns. She told me to let her worry about my case so I could relax as much as possible under these difficult circumstances. I will always recommend Tracey as an attorney, and I will always praise her performance on how she helped me with great generosity.

Mrs.Russo is outstanding. She is hands down the best attorney in Connecticut. She goes above and behind for your case and keeps you not only informed but helps with handling the stress of court. I could never go to anyone else. Mrs. Russo is not only my attorney but she's family at this point. If you have any doubts, talk to her and you will see just how amazing she is.

We hired Lisa after our realtor recommended her... 2 months later and our home insurance and taxes were never paid by her office (we provided this money at closing) . As a result our home is no longer insured and we are in the process of shopping for new insurance and have interest that has been tacked on to our town property taxes. We would have been happy with the service if she at least followed through and reached out to us but she has done nothing... We really hope that we won't need to report her to the CT Bar Association as this is really suspicious behavior.

Lisa guided us through a very difficult real estate transaction. She skillfully brought everyone back to the table and negotiated an agreement after one of the parties backed-out. She's highly responsive and a pleasure to work with.

Lisa helped us buy our first home. Throughout the twisted path that is the process of buying a home, she was - time and again - always on the ball. When we needed efficient, quick action, she came through for us with flying colors. She worked into the night to file paperwork to meet deadlines. She called us with timely updates, explaining legalese in English where needed. She was meticulous and attentive to detail and reassuring in her advice. We often commented between ourselves how pleased we were with her services. We would unhesitatingly recommend Lisa Roberts, and if we were to buy another home in time - use her services again.

After being in an abusive marriage with mental and physical abuse over 16 years, I was recommended to use Ms. Marino as a tough advocate. Unfortunately, my ex-husband's attorney was tougher, and I lost financially. She also did not give me proper advice about my marital home. She told me I had to leave, or the sheriff would remove me in 60 days. I consulted for free with another attorney and he said that was not true. I paid highly to find a rental with the 8 dogs my ex did not want, even though he called them his 'beloved dogs'. Would not use her again.

I would not recommend this Debra Marino as your lawyer. Debra tried to scare me with a letter for a another lawyer, when the other lawyer was caught having a affair in his office during normal business office. I would clearly watch out for people like this that will go out and help someone that was wrong from the begin. The proof is out there. This woman has no values

  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:

  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
