Lisa represented during a residential real estate purchase and we couldn't have chosen a better attorney. She was a strong advocate representing our interests and guided us through the process flawlessly. The seller's representatives even commented about how good she is. I would highly recommend Lisa and will absolutely use her services again.

Mr. Metrou is an outstanding lawyer! He knew just what to do and when to do it and advised us at every step along the way. We had a rather complicated closing on two homes at the same time and his explanations were thorough and not complicated. He came to our home for appointments rather than having us travel to Oswego. We have bought and sold 7 homes in the last 54 years. Last year we sold our 7th and purchased our 8th home with his help. Mr. Metrou made the process much simpler and quicker than in any other instance. We would recommend him unconditionally!!! - he even ended our association with a reassuring hug!

I am a current client in the midst of a legal situation which I found that I am unqualified to represent myself. My experience with William is a positive one. He has taken the time to thoroughly discover the details of my needs and the situation. In the responses provided to date he is knowledgeable. I believe that in every way he has responded, is in my best interest. As such I have complete confidence in the overall outcome. William Lohrman Law has my recommendation

My brother had a class 2 felony and was up the creek without a paddle. The first attorney said he would have to serve a minimum three years in prison, and he couldn't do anything for his case. Mr taylor was able to have the case dropped down to five months work release in only a few months. Job well done.

I'd highly recommend Richard and the Warner Law Group for any legal representation for buying or selling a home. Richard was extremely knowledgeable, prompt, answered all of our questions, stayed on top of the other side's lawyer when needed to keep both of our transactions moving along. The money we spent on retaining Richard's services was money well spent.

We recently hired Richard Warner to prepare and conduct the closing on our home. From the very beginning of the process he was extremely prompt, involved, and attentive to the details of our case, especially when we needed to delay closing for house repairs. Throughout the entire process Richard also took the time to educate us and explain the process. If you want a lawyer that will be accessible, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile to work on your case and communicate with you, than Richard is the guy. We will seek his counsel and representation in the future and recommend him to others.

We retained Mr. Warner for both the sale of our previous home and the purchase of our current home. Through every course of action, Richard was in constant contact with us and even made suggestions that helped the set of transactions run very smoothly. We would definitely hire the Warner Law Group for any future attorney needs and will recommend them to anyone who asks.

If I could give zero or even negative stars I would. She ignored about 98% of my phone calls, emails & texts. She made agreements/arrangements with the opposing council, without my knowledge. Then signed an order on my behalf to an order I didn't agree to, nor did I have any say in. I wish I could get my time & money back.

After my initial consult I thought she seemed great and wanted to hire her for my case, but she never called or emailed me back for the retainer. I called several times, left messages and even talked to the paralegal who assured me every time that she would call me back. In the end, I'm very glad I never hired her. If she can't even manage to call me back to take my money, she probably couldn't handle anything else.

Never returns calls, never answers emails. No communication. She failed to warn me of shady buyer and when it fell through 1 week prior to closing she said they have a reputation for doing that, nothing we can do. Well, if you knew why not let your client know. Seller walked away with earnest money 1 week before closing because of stipulation in contract that allowed him too, again an attorney should be looking out for that. there are better out there take a pass on this one.

Horrible experience with her. She came recommended from our realtor. She took long times to respond to calls, if at all. Usually, we had to have the realtor or our finance guy call her to get in touch. She showed up late to the closing. We actually had an issue from final walk through that we needed to address but because of her tardiness and her unprofessional behavior we were unable to truly resolve the issue because we never even had a chance to discuss it with her before she presented it to the seller's attorney. There are better lawyers out there

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?

  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
