Our working relationship with Mr. Seigler spanned over 4 years. It was not associated with criminal defense, but with civil problems regarding an easement. Mr. Seigler was contacted & hired after another local lawyer was paid to get resolution to the problem, but failed to take timely action. Mr. Seigler worked diligently in a timely fashion to attain success for us in this difficult, drawn-out case. We highly recommend Mr. Seigler!

We met with Attorney Seigler to explain what had happened to the line fence. During the course of resolving issue of the removal of the fence without our knowledge we brought family records and expenses regarding the dispute. The pros and cons of the issue were presented to us by Attorney Seigler. He presented the evidence and his pending correspondence to us prior to presenting our side of the issue.

A few years ago, I faced a complicated business situation. I asked a local attorney if he would be interested in assisting me. He said the case was beyond his realm. He said the person he would recommend would be Darrell Seigler of Ottawa. Darrell did a great job in a difficult case. He faced 4 or 5 legal teams and produced excellent results for the complexity of the case. There were no surprises. He kept me informed throughout. He kept costs reasonable. I have used his services on several other occasions. At times, I have just used him for advice. I recommend him highly

A friend referred me to Chris Minelli for some traffic tickets I got earlier in the year. I had only gotten parking tickets before, so was really unaware about the process and afraid of the consequences I might be in for. Mr. Minelli did a wonderful job of explaining the situation and navigating through the system and my court appearance. He was professional, knowledgeable and friendly through the entire experience. I always felt informed of what he was doing and why, and in the end, the situation was resolved very simply!

So far in my partner’s custody case , Karen has helped him get his equal rights and has guided him in the correct way. She also has been on top of everything with getting the court process to move along. I continue to have faith she will help him achieve his goal and what is the best interest of the child

Attorney Hamer did a good job with our minor case. We had no prior experience with needing a defense lawyer, so we were a little nervous about the process. We had never heard of him or met him in the past. We found him through a series of phone calls, made the initial call to him, took a big gulp, and hired him. He turned out to be a good choice! Despite our low-profile case and the modest fee he would earn, he cared about us and he worked to achieve the best result possible. He returned calls and emails in a timely manner--usually the same day or the day after. Being a worrier, I tended to be the one to initiate the majority of the emails, but he always answered promptly. He appeared on our behalf in court, arranging matters so that we never had to appear in court (though this was partially possible due to the minor nature of the offense). He was courteous and professional and honest. He achieved a more favorable outcome than we could've achieved on our own. We highly recommend him for anyone who needs a defense attorney.

I had hired Ryan for a DUI Case. Anytime I asked what his approach was going to be to the case, he could never give me a straight answer. I paid him $1500 just to have my court case continued multiples times. He was also very poor at getting back to me about anything regarding my case. Instead of reaching out to me to give a status update, I always had to contact him to find out anything at all.

Not sure where my last review went so I’ll put this back. THIS is by far the WORST LAW FIRM on the god forsaken planet. Better call Saul would do better at representing a cow than this law firm would with a legit case.

He made promise of child support order within 2 months of filing divorce-during consultation. He said” I’ll give you a deal” 13 months later- a young woman and her children have struggled and suffered -financially, physically and mentally at the hands of this completely unprofessional beast. From his lack of professionalism - to his down right dirty demeanor. He promised child support on 4 occasions - trips to court- never produced anything. He did absolutely nothing but double his bill!! He should be disbarred!! He doesn’t show up for court- his client does- he’s embarrassed because he was trying to pull a fast one on the judge and other party- so he calls up this young lady - screams at her for 10 minutes- gets on a zoom call- sets her for trial and then files a motion to withdraw. Who does that? He charged her a ton of money and 13 months later- still at square 1 nothing accomplished- absolutely nothing accomplished- and he jumps ship. Possibly he didn’t like the question “ what have you done for me?” This horrible individual treats some of his clients as if they are insignificant in this world- why does he think he can do that?? Because he’s been doing it for a very long time and getting away with it . No more !

RUNNNNN would NEVER recommend him. He took my $2000 which if he did his job my situation would have been resolved in a few weeks. He did NOTHING I did all the research and foot work and he kept prolonging it for months and months with no follow through just excuses. His lack of professionalism was appalling I tried to fire him multiple times. He begged and stated he would do his job just give him another chance. The 3rd time he stated “if I don’t do my job you can come to my office and punch me in the face”. Wowwwww what professional would EVER say something so bizarre. When called him out and asked why things weren’t taken care of like he said he would his anger was ridiculous. He seemed out of it most of the time so this again was concerning.

If I could leave less stars I would. Terrible advice, terrible lawyer. A public defender is a better option. He’s now the prosecuting for the town I hear. Obviously not even close to a defense attorney. At this point just someone that will take your money and do the absolute least

This attorney will take your money, do nothing for you, and expect to keep the entire retainer. This attorney does not communicate at all with her client, if you want to know what happens in court, you will have to go online/court file to see what transpired. She caves into the opposing counsel and believes everything they tell her regarding their own client. She does what is in the best interest of herself, not her client. She does not opt for hearings, she sits back and lets opposing counsel run the show. She makes promises that she can't keep. A person would do better pro-se then to hire her. There are much better choices out there then this attorney. I only gave this attorney one star because no stars was not option.

My wife and I recently hired John Vickers(Law Offices of White, Marsh, Anderson, Martin, Vickers, Deobler & Goode) to represent us in a child support dispute. While he is good at research his communication and case handling is severely lacking. Two times we did not have to be present in court, and one other time we had the wrong date scheduled for court(our fault). When we showed up 2 days late for court we realized we had the wrong date written down. He did not call us at any time, even when we missed to let us know. I do feel he is justified in charging us for research done, but his work outside of that was very poor and overpriced. I would look for a different attorney if I were you.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
