we met with greg connly about a motorcycle accident and i cannot say enough about the level of professionalism and passion that greg had concerning the case. he is truly a very gifted lawyer and a wonderful human being. i would feel so confident using greg to handle any case. he was far and above the most knowledgeable lawyer that we spoke to about the case. he made a lot of points about the case that others overlooked and he was willing to take on a case that had some complicated issues. dont hesitate to have him on your team. barry was also amazing. great people, real human beings work here, you are not a number to them.

Attorney Nagle has been my legal seeing eye dog for the past 3.5 years. Throughout a lengthy and slow moving process it was evident that he possessed a stellar knowledge of Massachusetts legal procedure. He led me through the oft byzantine world of Massachusetts legal proceedings in a calm and confident manner. He is engaging, subtly strong willed and dedicated to the law. In my case he was exceptionally patient with an impatient client. Attorney Nagle was always professional. He has a good rapport with court house legal practitioners and staff. He is a gentleman who likes people and in an often contentious legal environment that is a valuable trait. Attorney Nagle's strongest asset? His talent in the trial courtroom and his skill in cross examination. Yes, we had a favorable outcome. I believe he cares about doing a good job for his clients and will work diligently on your behalf. His office staff are friendly and exceptionally hard working. They deserve my thanks and positive review, as well.

David was outstanding in the courtroom. I was and still am in total awe of his preparation, organization and presence in the courtroom. It was like watching something out of a TV show. I was on pins and needles but David was calm, collected, and willing to object (when necessary) and fight for his views. He made excellent logical arguments and submitted all the right motions and I am really proud of his work. I hope not to need an attorney anytime soon - who does? - but if I did, I would pick David Nagle without hesitation.

He was my court-appointed defense attorney. He put in the effort to not only protect me in a very difficult case but also to acknowledge my concerns on a personal level despite having a heavy case load and a family. I would never have expected as much from a payed attorney never-mind a public defender. He goes above and beyond what should be expected of him. If you need legal assistance then I can't say that this is the man you want representing you. This is the man you NEED representing you. I will always be grateful.

This attorney was was a waste of my money. She never will contact you and let you know how your case is going. I was left in the dark during my case. She charges $6.25 a minute . And barely does anything! She contacts you on a Friday at around 3:00, so you can't contact her until Monday. She didn't do anything to help me win my case, when it should have been an easy win. She didn't explain anything. I had to google things most of the time because she didn't explain things ever. I had to do most of the work myself during discovery and bring things to her attention. She was insensitive during a terrible time. She would make comments that were. in my opinion .unprofessional and hurtful. This case could have been settled in months, but it took over a year! This attorney does not care about her client at all. She only cares about her money. On the day of court, she changed things on the agreement that should have been settled upon months before the trial date. What a sh** show. Do not hire this attorney unless you want to lose your case.

I would NEVER recommend Susannah Brown or anyone in her office for legal services. She charges an arm and a leg and does NOTHING. She does not care about her clients and is impossible to reach by phone and email. If you want to speak to her, be prepared to contact her several times in order to get a response. Unless she wants to get paid, you will not get a call from her. She is rude and condescending. She acted as if I was an idiot if I had questions and would give me one word answers. I am not a lawyer and do not understand legal terms- that is why I paid her a fortune, only for her to make me feel stupid anytime I asked a question. She never initiated communication with me to let me know what was going on with my case. Anytime she would reach out or respond, it was on a Friday afternoon so I would have to worry all weekend and not be able to reach her or ask questions. She did not help me with my case at all and instead I spent over $15,000 fighting a case that should have been won and ended within a few weeks. The entire case took almost a year!!! I am highly DISSATISFIED with the services provided by Susannah and her office staff.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
