I heard about Ted from another Attorney, and after several phone meetings, and in person meetings, I decided he was the guy to go with. Ted did everything for me from start to finish. Long story short, everything is settled. I'd recommend him to anyone. He is very into his clients. He kept me up on everything that was going on through the entire process, and always got back to me promptly if he missed my call. Anything further, please advise.

We've worked with Ted on a couple employee-related cases and we've been happy with everything he's done to get us the best possible outcome. He's attentive but not overly attentive. He responds promptly to voice mails and emails and really has the client's best interest in mind. Ted has also become an excellent consultant for us on our employee issues and practices.

I've used Pierce for many years from real estate to personal representation and he has always done exceptional for me. Hes knowledgeable and personable and I now after years of legal help from him consider him my friend. Hes a great person to have on your side although sometimes its hard to hear the truth about the outcome of each particular case, he never withholds truth about the legal system as other attorneys would just to make some profit. For these reasons hes very successful and deserves all the credit from his hard work. This is a lawyer and a man who other attorneys should emulate to improve the justice system but I guess if you did that we wouldn't have a Court system, just easy dispute resolution with fair and reasonable outcomes, always. Thanks P.

Mr. Backes is a exceptional lawyer. When no one wanted to help me with my case because my civil claim amount as under $3000.00, he took my case. He informed me from the start if i win, he win, if we lose, we lose, which was understandable. He kept me informed at all times, whether if it was fax, email and/or phone call. He told me step by step what to except. And most importantly explained to me in detailed the terms and in's and out's of the case. I was suing my car dealership for consumer fraud. Someone at the dealership signed my name on the auto loan contract and refused to give me my down payment back and also took my caraway from me. Mr. Backes won me three times the amount I invested into the car. I am very thankful and blessed to have met a lawyer like him. Not too many lawyers are like him; honest and loyal. Thank you Mr. Backes for everything!!!!!

I would highly recommend Larry’s services to anyone with legal issues. Larry was able to spell out the risks in simple terms and the likely outcomes. He was able to negotiate a very favorable deal that worked as much in my favor as possible. There were two other co-defendants against the state in the matter and while their lawyers may have had more experience, Larry was clearly the most prepared and most professional. Just because a guy has been around for 20 years doesn’t mean he will get you the best outcome. Larry is hungry and smart and that is what matters in court.

I had a pretty serious traffic ticket that had potential for me to lose my driving privileges in the state of NJ. I needed an attorney and did not really have anyone in mind. I was not happy with my previous attorney and was looking to hire someone new. I was given Larry Hardcastle's number from a close friend of mine who had used him in the past and was very happy with his service. When I called Larry, right away I felt confident that he knew what he was talking about. He clearly explained to me why i got my ticket, scenarios on how it could play out, and what needed to be done. He did not beat around the bush and was completely honest with me about possible outcomes as well as how he believed things would play out. When we went to court he seemed to have a very good relationship with the judge and the prosecutor. He acted completely professional and ended up solving all of my issues. I was even thankfully able to keep my DL. When we were finished he sat down with me and answered all of my questions, gave me future advice, and explained to me possible reprocussions if i were to get this ticket again. He genuinly seemed to care instead of just rushing off which was a pleasant bonus to his services provided. Mr. Hardcastle is someone i would certainly hire again in the future.

If you are looking for an attorney for a legal matter, look no further. Mr. Janel is THE attorney and I am going to share with you why. I was having a dispute over a return of security deposit with my previous landlord. I initially retained a different attorney (yes, my fault), but he was not only not knowledgeable in this area but also indifferent. I received an impression that he wasn’t taking my case seriously but using it just to squeeze easy money out of me. I was actually stressed out with him more than the litigation itself. Then, I found Mr. Janel. He was patient with me during my initial consultation, devoted time to really understand the situation, and even reviewed my docket on the spot. My case was unnecessarily more tangled than it was supposed to be, because my previous attorney messed up my complaint. Mr. Janel walked me through all different scenarios and his strategies and even volunteered to talk with my wife who was basically disgusted with the whole litigation situation. I felt much more at ease emotionally after speaking with him. Plus, the fact that he has been practicing for nearly 30 years and that he gives lectures to other attorneys on tenant/landlord cases made him the perfect attorney for my case. After retaining Mr. Janel, everything was a breeze. I just handed my supporting docs to him and he handled everything thereafter. I sometimes wondered why he wasn’t asking any questions before my trial, because my understanding of client-attorney communications was only from movies where an attorney coaches his/her client on every little thing. But in retrospect, it wasn’t necessary for him because he understood my case better than I did myself. Why do I say this? Because we won on every claim in the trial and Mr. Janel’s examination questions constantly revealed the landlord’s perjuries one after another. The result of the trial? Exactly what he told me in the initial consultation. You might still be thinking there are other competent attorneys out there. But what I can tell you is Mr. Janel is not only competent but also compassionate and wholeheartedly works for your best interest. I say this, because I did work with a different attorney and know exactly what it feels like to be treated like an annoying wallet. I highly recommend Mr. Janel as an attorney. You won’t regret contacting him.

I had a DUI charge that ended up at the Superior Court level when it really should have stayed at the municipal level. With hardly any hassle, he was able to bring it back to the municipal courts and I ended up with the best case scenario in terms of punishment. Real nice guy, won't BS you, but also is sympathetic to your case and stress that comes along with it.

I worked with Rebecca through a very long, protracted divorce case that lasted several years. Rebecca and her team were excellent. I felt like I had someone on my side the entire time, who was invested in the case not just professionally but personally. There were more than several times that I received edited motions back from her in the middle of the night. My ex hired a bull-dog lawyer, and Rebecca stood up to him full-force in court and through her expertly written motions. She is a very hard worker, takes her cases seriously and gives them her time and dedication. I have recommended her to several friends and colleagues.

We did a zoom consultation in which Victor offered us real world solutions for our situation. We had just started on this elder care/medicaid planning journey so desperate for direction and he could have sold us a bunch of products which would have benefited himself and left us in a worse situation. He didn’t take advantage of us and I remain absolutely grateful. I have recommended other clients to his practice and always mention that memorable quality during our interaction: integrity.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
