I highly recommend Bryce Schoenborn. His enthusiasm and passion for law is reassuring. He maintains and presents information in a well-organized manner. He spent time researching the latest court cases to reference in comparison to my own case. Bryce clearly explains the law, court procedures, and mediation so one has a good understanding of what to expect throughout a divorce. Bryce fought only for that which was fair, and for that, I admire his integrity. Our community is very fortunate to him.

Attorney Onchuck has served our family for the past several years, guiding our parents, my two siblings and I through changes in health, assisted living, personal finances, and government assistance programs. His advice has been practical and correct as we have navigated these complex situations. Dale has earned our trust as a counselor, and we wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone needing help in estate planning.

Mr. Onchuck has done family estate work for several of my elderly relatives and is very good in this area. He seems kind and patient, which are traits sorely lacking in many lawyers. I can't speak to any other areas of his practice, other than financial planning for the elderly, since my only dealings with him are on behalf of elderly relatives who are in nursing homes, but I wouldn't hesitate to go to him with any other legal problems.

Awful attorney. Seems to love drama and appear more knowledge than is. Never ever hire him. He doesn't listen, forms opinions without caring to know details. He is a know it all and does great disservice to our children. Minus 5 *****

Dave was brought into a personal injury situation and immediately took control of the issues and removed all of the stress that I had handling this on my own. Dave was very honest and upfront about the case. Dave always stressed the importance of being honest, even if I thought it would hurt my case. It is people like Dave who understand people, the stress of a situaton and have an understanding of the complexities of the human condition and are able to assist in ways that only a reputable attorney can.

I wanted to add that since I wrote this review I have gotten a hold of emails she sent saying that I refused to give her my taxes. Which is ironic since i had a letter from her dated before these emails saying that she had my taxes. If she says anything different I can send proof. So if you want an attorney that is going to lie about you to other people in the court system then hire her. There is no free consultation. I hired her for a child custody case. My ex lied about her income she did nothing, my ex lied about where she lived at so that I had to drive a mile past where my daughter lived for the exchange. she did nothing. I am self employed and I was not allowed tax deductions she did nothing. I getting a temporary placement of 50/50 and I had to pay her over 30% of my income. I gave her the proof she said she didn't believe it was legal I had consulted two different attorneys and multiple online articles. The online article should have been plenty good because when I asked her question about a law she told me to google it. I told her about what I was told and found on the internet she promptly withdrew from the case. If you want someone to represent you based on her beliefs then hire her if you want to be represented on actual laws hire someone else. Or just google it and save a lot of money. She charged me over $2000 for one court appearance and a very little amount of paperwork. She is equal to flushing money down the toilet stay away. She is a one star lawyer because the website makes you give her a star. I personally wouldn't give her negative stars.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
