Michael Lisi from Bridge IP has been handling our various IP matters for more than 10 years. Maybe even longer. He has provided some of the best professional services I've experienced. Questions to him were always comprehensively analyzed and answered with rich explanations, clear guidance and options. He even taught us how to register for copyrights ourselves to save costs. He is an attorney that makes this client feel that he's truly on our side, thinking from every angle, not just a professional giving service and getting paid. I would recommend Michael to anyone or any company in need of IP support.

Excellent lawyer who actually listens & communicates well both in & out of the courtroom. Over the years, our business has dealt with many attorneys and have found our experience with Ms. Benson to be refreshingly straight-forward.

I used Attorney Daniel Finwall as my bankruptcy attorney and he was awful. He often cut me off in mid-sentence to give me his point of view as if I didn’t matter. He was arrogant and short with me. He would yell at me when I tried to understand the process and then he would say he don’t have time for this. Many times he ended the conversation before I had got all the information that I needed. Finally I called him and gave him a piece of my mind. It was a bad experience.

I lost my job during the meltdown and lost my house to foreclosure. After struggling for a few years I realized I had no choice but to declare bankruptcy. A friend referred me to the lawyer Dan Finwall. I received a free credit report and discovered more debt than I thought, another attorney had told me I needed to do a chapter 13 and make payments. Dan Finwall and his staff were very honest and I did a chapter 7 for a fraction of the cost of a chapter 13. I am now debt free and sleep like a baby, my foreclosure debt, credit card debt, hospital bills and other debt are wiped out. Dan Finwall gave me my life back, he treated me like family and is my friend forever. He is the best and most honest bankruptcy attorney in the a detroit area, he must be.

Dan Finwall and his assistant are the best lawyers I have ever dealt with. Due to a loss of income I had to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy, Dan helped me through the process in a very professional and efficient manner. Without all the frills and nonsense he gave me a fair price with no extras later, no surprises. I have had 2 friends whom I referred and they like the firm as well. I do not usually write these reviews but felt I had to as they got my life on track again, my stress is down and my creditors are wiped out!

Sometimes you just have a bad client! Dan did everything he could with what he was working with. What you need to understand is, He has skin in the game too. His time, his energy, his finances. He will give you his best advice on the best possible outcome for what you're are dealing with. He is working for you and unfortunately he is bound to do what his client wants, not what he, the professional believes is best. This firm is compassionate and empathetic. I cannot say enough about Katie! She is a fantastic assistant but more importantly a great human being. She was so kind when she didn't have to be! My sons case could have turned out a lot better but you cant help someone who wont help themselves and fight against themselves so hard! I appreciate everything this law firm has done. Their compassion, hard work and dedication to their client. Their patience with this Mom especially! Much gratitude to you!

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
