When I first retained Joe I had most of the details of my divorce already settled. We both thought it would be over in 3 months. Then things turned. 6 years later about 5 different lawyers and at some points a pro se’ it was finally over. Throughout the 6 years Joe did an outstanding job. He was always there when I needed him. Would always return calls and made sure he guided me through ever obstacle we faced. He made sure we were both prepared for every hearing, CMC, motion and cross motions. Above all the legal parts of the divorce Joe would always make sure I stayed focused on what I needed to in my everyday life reassuring me he had things under control and could always find a way to real me back in when he could see the frustrations building up in me. I highly recommend Joe Rasa for any of your family law needs.

Feeney & Dixon, LLC, specifically David have efficiently and flawlessly litigated a case that resulted in us, plaintiffs, recouping a bedroom that was stolen from us in a condo building. This is a very unique case where David went above and beyond to procure favorable outcome to us. I would recommend David and his firm and want to thank him for such a fantastic job.

Recently closed on a house and used Feeney & Dixon as our attorney. The whole time the office was very attentive and on top of handling our needs. Mr Dixon and his assistants were very easy and pleasant to communicate with. We will 100% be continuing to use Feeney & Dixon in the future with any situations we encounter!

I saw this lawyer in court and he is extremely unprofessional. He didn’t care about his client. The trial went on for several months and he still seemed confused on the sequence of events. His objections in court were essentially always overruled. He made a fool of himself.

After my father's death, we began working with the attorney who wrote his will. However, I could never get a response and had no idea what was going on, so I terminated him and hired Frank. Best. Decision. Ever! Although he was busy, he never made me feel like he was rushing his conversations with us. He answered every question and would add additional information when he felt it may be applicable. He kept me engaged in every step of the process so I always knew what was happening, and explained all options to me when choices needed to be made. He was honest, forthright, and had a stunning work ethic. He always had a plan of action and excelled at strategic thinking in the face of a number of challenges we beneficiaries faced. He was also adept at pivoting and reformulating strategies when we hit any roadblocks. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I felt fully supported and confident in his performance the entire time.

My mother engaged Mr. Williams to help her (and other cousins) to recover some $$ from a deceased cousin’s estate. (The executor of that estate owed several heirs a portion of the cousin’s estate which was never passed to them.) Unfortunately, my mom passed away before completing/signing the agreement with her cousin’s estate executor. I was MY mom’s estate executor; Frank kept me informed as to what was transpiring with the settlement. When the agreement was ready, I was able to sign and the funds were sent to each of the other heirs and to my mother’s estate. Mr. Williams was diligent, erudite, tenacious and (most important) an ally to the heirs. Ultimately, his perseverance and clear communication assured our lawsuit’s success. Plain and simple: HIRE HIM for a good and fair legal outcome.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.

If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
