I have used Chris Yarbro with KKRY for over 6 years, and he is my "Go-To" attorney in Southern Missouri and Arkansas when I need legal advice or legal services. For his experience and quality of work, he is a bargain in my book, and I am very grateful to have him for a resource. The communication from Chris is very good, and above average based on my 17 years in hiring and directing attorneys. I strongly recommend Chris Yarbro for all of your business legal needs.

I used Chris in a case to obtain custody of my son. He did an amazing job, and really took control of the situation. After obtaining custody, he has fought off two separate modifications by my child's mother. I would highly recommend Chris for any case moving forward.

Jack Knowlan is a former Missouri workers' compensation administrative law judge who now represents injured workers on compensation claims. I discuss certain practical aspects of difficult cases with him on a regular basis. What I most appreciate about Jack is not just his deep knowledge of workers' compensation, but his good judgment and insightful assessment of a wide variety of practical problems that arise in workers' compensation cases. He carefully prepares all his cases and keeps his clients well-informed.

Mr. Kennedy performed with the utmost professionalism in my family trust matter. He was always prepared, his office staff were extremely courteous and professional and he was always willing to take time and explain. Family trust matters can be somewhat emotional and confusing, and in this particular case, an unspecified charitable trust was quite unusual. I would highly recommend Mr. Kennedy to anyone needing an excellent litigator and/or family trust attorney.

Mr. Chris Yarbro gets 5 stars from me. He is a straight shooter and courteous to boot. He and his team got my case dismissed and I cannot be more grateful for it. My only wish out of this whole thing is that I didn't need a lawyer in the first place but I'm glad I had him in my corner. In the event that I ever need another lawyer he will be my first call. Thank you again Mr. Yarbro for all that you did.

Was as nice & polite as could be upon our first phone call; called him back about a week later after reviewing my options, and he was sooo hateful & sharp! Even told me, quote " there's plenty of other lawyers, if you want to go with them, call one of those!!" WOW!! Well, I'm sure you'll be relieved to know that I took your advice, Mr Edmundson, and got the case resolved, for several hundred less than you were demanding. Thanks!! Please remember to take your "happy" pills, Sir!!!!

She sounded great on my initial conversation with her and said all the right things. She said she would get started right away as soon as she received payment. I spoke with her weeks later and she said she was waiting to see what the other party did. I told her that I wanted her not to wait and she still did nothing. Weeks after that, I called her office every day with information pertaining to the case. Two weeks went by and she never called me back. I called the owner of the firm and I was very nice. I asked him to have her call me as I had information for the case. About a week later, I received some of the money that I sent her. She cost me both time and money that I did not have. Thanks Jennifer for dragging your feet at one of the worst time of my life. Thanks for all the call backs. If you hire her, you deserve what you get

I hired Jennifer to file a modification for me, not only did she delay the proceedings for over a year she was extremely unknowledgeable in custody laws all together. The only thing she did was cost me thousands and waste my time. She has also done the same thing to others I know. From missing court dates, incorrectly filing motions, and incorrectly advising clients on laws. She is a joke for an attorney to say the least and should not be allowed to practice law.

She took $2000 from my friend who hired her as her bankruptcy lawyer. That was over 2 years ago. She never filed in all that time. She is ignoring requests to have the money, at least a portion of it, refunded. She made excuses about the court being backed up due to COVID ... a year after the court opened back up. This is small town USA, the courts weren't that busy for the past 2.5 years. Her assistant is a MASTER at answering questions with "I don't know," or "I don't have that information." Never once did my friend receive any kind of answer to anything. How do you keep a bankruptcy filing fee when you never filed the paperwork with the court? How is this legal or ethical? A complaint will be filed with the Bar Association of Missouri. Anyone else who has been screwed by this woman should do the same. She does it because she knows she can get away with it. Report her and get her license to practice revoked.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
