I hired Patrick to deal with a matter. While it seemed to drag on and would never get any resolution due to the company I was suing, it did finally go to trial and I can't imagine any other attorney having such command of the courtroom. No matter what the final outcome I can be satisfied knowing he had my best interests in mind the entire time. Patrick is the one you want in the courtroom with you! I will forever be in his debt and he was most gracious with his billing. Not many lawyers give discounts but Patrick is one of them! I would recommend him to anyone.

I used Patrick McEuen to handle an insurance issue I had a with a local hospital. My surgeon tried to overcharge me due to his mis-diagnosis (refusal to take necessary tests prior to surgery). Patrick handled it with my insurance company, gathering all the details of their procedures in billing, and wrote several letters on my behalf to the hospital and also a collection agency. I was very impressed by him and how he took care of me even though it wasn't a huge case. I would definitely recommend him and his staff. He's very personal and I felt comfortable doing business with him.

I hired Attorney Elwood to expunge felony arrest records involving a sensitive case. Since the records were actually being expunged earlier under the law, it required the permission of the Prosecutor. On prior occasions, I had not been successful in obtaining permission for these records to be expunged. Finally, another attorney actually referred me to Ken Elwood. I was unsure if the outcome would be any different this time, but I am absolutely glad I hired Ken Elwood. He took the time to review all the details of my case and developed a plan to obtain the State's permission and have my records expunged. It was successful, and I have Ken Elwood and his staff to thank for that. Ken and his staff always kept me informed about the status of the case, returned all emails and calls, and made the process much easier. He gave me an important piece of my life back with this expungement. I would not hesitate to hire Ken Elwood again if I ever need legal assistance with anything else. I strongly recommend and endorse Attorney Elwood in the areas of criminal law and record expungement. Thank you, Ken!

I highly recommend Attorney Kenneth Elwood from the law firm Rhame & Elwood! Kenneth Elwood recently defended me for a theft misdemeanor. Previously, I had been arrested for a possession of marijuana misdemeanor 1 year prior. Typically, people are only offered the pre trial diversion program once. However, Kenneth Elwood was able to get it offered to me for my 2nd arrest even though I already had it for my first arrest! Also only requiring 30 hours of community service!

Randy has been my attorney for quite some. He goes out of his way to accommodate his clients. He ALWAYS returns phone calls and lets you know what’s going on and happening with my case. I would NEVER go to any one else if I have any troubles. His personality is outstanding and he makes you feel relaxed. Randy will give advice if his client will need any with out hesitation. He’s professional and an outstanding attorney.

Then he accused me of threatening his life!!!!! What kind of lawyer is this?? Lies after lies!!! Good thing I recorded every conversation we had!!! Do not recommend this law firm, stay safe out there!

So sloppy in her documentation you’ll wonder why she bothered going to law school at all. Her undergrad school is now defunct as well, which may explain some of it?

Katrina Spence Smock gets my endorsement for Judge. She has been working, learning andpracticing in the field of law for over 22 years. I began working with Katrina over 11 years ago when her practice was in Lake Station.I interviewed her then and still find her to be a very conscientious, intelligent, ethical and caring attorney who is very concerned about people being treated fairly in the court of law. She is a very loving and dedicated wife and mother to her children. If you have gotten to know her, you have found that she is a very giving and compassionate person who tries her best to engage and connect with everyone she meets.

I’ve been fighting the case for seven years. I am very innocent. There is no proof and the so-called alleged victims have not ever showed up or want anything to do with it and my codefendant. Also let it be clear and loud to my attorney and his attorney that I have nothing to do with that situation and they’re still trying to lock me up And I am so innocent and My Public Defender Nicholas Barnes is allowing it to happen. I have a court date October 10, 2024 if I don’t get locked up then I guess he did his job if I do get locked up I suggest a whole bunch of bad reviews. I’m not disrespecting or trying to disrespect anybody. I’m just a very honest person. And this was with all due respect.

Attorney Barnes maintained professional responsibility throughout the entire process. He had a clear understanding of my situation for what it was and not what others said it was. He was dedicated to my case and provided me with guidance that truly had my best interest at hand. My charges were dismissed, and I was able to rebuild and he continued to be there to assist during that rebuilding process. Great attorney who truly cares about the wellbeing of his clients.

As i review cannot have "unsupported accusations" I can not say anything. I can only say that this is the worst lawyer I have ever seen and that he abandoned our case until the statutes of limitations expired three years later.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
