My son had numerous felony drug offenses in several different counties that required mandatory jail time! Mr. Ross was able to get all charges reduced and he received no jail time! Mr. Ross kept us informed about our case, never had us waiting in court unnecessarily and delivered on what we paid him for. He is expensive but my sons life was on the line and it was money well spent! Highly recommend him if you need a criminal lawyer in Rockingham and or Guilford County!!

Great experience with Khan law firm, received a speeding ticket going 15 over and he was able to get it dropped down to an improper equipment which spared me any points to my license and insurance. Appropriate price for services, easy process, I did not have to appear for my court date as he went for me and I was notified within 24 hours of what the outcome was. Highly recommend!

Bullshit lawyer. They won't even respond to an inquiry on their web page and they want $250 for a 30 min consultation just to determine if they're going to take the case, which I had to find out by calling and talking to someone who only provided restricting info and did not seem supportiveat all. Hell no!

Would give less than one star if I could. Absolutely horrible person in general all he care about is winning it doesn’t matter if the person he is representing is full of it. I don’t see how he can sleep at night. Disgusting.

Steer clear of this lawyer. I paid him a month ago for a custody agreement and I’ve yet to have any kind of paper work done or shown to me. Everytime I call I get lied to. Either we in trial, or sick or I get hung up on cause a fake incoming phone call is happening. His wife has called a lied to me over the phone. He’s has lied to me they txt a phone conversation and his secatry has lied. If you want to give away free money then he’s the one to use. If u want result then best to find a real lawyer who will represent you. Warning steer clear of Reeves law firm. I will be contacting the board about his professionalism

When I first met with him I. Would tell then he really didn't care what you had to say about your case, because he never contacted you before your court day, second of all he didn't keep what the judge said and I had to contact him four times plus email him. One week before our court date he wanted me to make a phone that he should have done. The day of court 9:00 am he didn't show up until close to 11:00 am. When he did come in his friend said something to him then called in his room and yelled, yelled at me in front of the people in the hallway..... very unprofessional. On his answering machine at the in he says have a bless day. Mr. Perkins need walk the walk if he is going to talk the talk....One word JESUS is what he needs because no one deserves to be disrespectful, rude to anyone. I would rate him a -0. To be he acts like he is better than anyone else. I would not recommended him and if he is appointed to you ask for another l Attorney.

I met with James Perkins after speaking to a highly recommended attorney in the Rockingham county area about my case. I didn't get a good vibe from that attorney and it seemed to me like another money pit and run around attorney. After speaking with James I finally had confidence in an attorney that handles Rockingham county civil matters. Efficient, Affordable, and Confidence of my case. AAAA++++

Represented my wife in a traffic ticket. Never sent us anything in writing with the results of the case. We waited 2 weeks and called and they could not find any record of her case. Two days later they said they found it, it had been misfiled and they would mail us a letter with results. Two weeks later, still no letter. I called back and they supposedly had mailed it to the wrong Zip Code and would mail it again that day. Another week, no letter. I finally called the courthouse and got the info. myself . By this time I had 3 days to get payment to the court . Very poor service. I would not recommend this firm unless you live in Reidsville NC and can go there in person to handle the paperwork.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
