In todays day and age, it is rare you find someone or a company, who is ethical, kind, and a fighter. Our family was crushed with by a dealership, with a devastating experience that occurred on a Saturday! Saturday night, I knew we would need legal service to assist us. On a Sunday, by miracle of a chance I was able tor each Mr. Stevenson. His reassurance, made a dark day a little brighter. This law firm fights for what is right, and their endless dedication to resolving matters with ease and patience is not only something I admire, but someone I will support, advocate, and share! There are not enough words to express my gratitude and appreciation for Mr. Stevenson and this firm. If you ever find yourself needing a professional attorney, I would hands down give you this recommendation. By Monday morning, Mr. Stevenson had resolved our issue, and followed through in all aspect of communication! They are beyond a 5 start rating, and if you need a strong, passionate fighter, Mr. Stevenson will hands down shake the ground of any opponent and be the force I dare anyone to reckon with. Thank you for your outstanding service you give, your not just doing a job, you are changing lives.

Steve was retained to help my business collect past due debts for work done and services provided. Specifically, we had rented road trailers, ten, to a farm operation which did not pay and it was necessary for me to repossess them. We were unable to collect based on debtor's bankruptcy. Another case involved trailer repair work performed for customer who would not pay. Not able to collect. Another case involved contract to trade a diesel farm tractor to former employee in exchange for lawn maintenance services -- which were not provided. Unable to repossess or to collect as ruled by small claims court magistrate. Steve did the best he could given the circumstances of these cases. I would not hesitate to use his services again and do recommend him to others.

I thought I had written a review for Mr. Murphy. I was traveling south returning to FL on I-95 when I was caught speeding. I was allegedly clocked doing 88 in a 70 mph zone. In NC this requires a court appearance. I had no intention of going to court in NC. When I got home to FL the next day and checked my post office box I had a handful of letters from attorneys wanting to represent me in this matter. Mr. Murphy's was on top so I called him. Over the phone he explained to me that for $180 I believe it was he would represent me in traffic court. I asked about potential outcomes and he assured me that he could likely get my 18 mph over the limit ticket reduced to a non moving violation. The result would be a fine but no points on my license. As I wasn't returning to NC to go to court I figured what the heck... give the man a shot. The only complaint I have about the whole process was I had to call to remind him to send me my copy of the disposition of the case. Other than that, just as promised this potentially very expensive speeding ticket (many states DOUBLE FINES IN 70 MPH ZONES) came back as "improper equipment." No points just I believe a $150 fine which was well worth paying. If you travel I-95 in the Nash County area (Rocky Mount) and are going faster than the limit, get lit up and ticketed.... call Mr. Michael Murphy and he'll get the job done.

Eric Goodale is a joke. Horrible for disability claim. No communication. Didn’t even gather any or all medical records before hearing with judge and after when judge gave them ample time to. Then gave up on case after I was denied. The law firm is a joke and embarrassment. They wasted my time and energy for 3 years with my claim. They have left me stranded due to their own negligence and just gave up on me completely. They don’t care about you obviously. What a joke. DO NOT RECOMMEND. STAY AWAY FROM THIS LAW FIRM.

Don't come here for traffic tickets. Kelly Shore is a bad attorney. Didn't handle my case correctly and quite frankly I feel robbed of my money. Told me I didn't have to present myself at court because she was and at the end I found out she wasn't going to any of them. I had a warrant because of her (which I resolved myself as well as the traffic ticket). Also when I tried contacting her she would not answer not even on Facebook, she would leave me on read. I would give her 0 stars if I could.

Mr. Naylor was difficult to get in touch with on several occasions. I mostly delt with his secretary and sometimes got misleading or even blatantly wrong information. I was told by the secretary that I could take my ex wife to court because she would not sign a Free Trader agreement. When I called back to ask about the progress of the trial, the secretary gave me a court date. As the court date approached, I called again and happened to get Mr. Naylor on the phone as he was trying to call someone else. He informed me that I could not take my exwife to court for not signing the Free Trader agreement and that the court date was actually my exwife taking me to court over something else. I felt completely misled. When we went to court, as I waited for the trial, I noticed that my lawyer and her lawyer were working "against" each other on a number of cases. As I reviewed my legal fees, I noticed that I was billed a lot for phone calls between the two lawyers when nothing seemed to be accomplisheed. I also sent communication to my exwife through my lawyer that would have ended the entire proceedings. My exwife also tried to do the same thing. Neither one of us received the others communication and we were both told that the other one did not want to speak to us directly. Overall, I felt taken advantage of and misled. I would not recommend Mr. Naylor ot anyone, including my ex wife

Her paralegal is awesome. However she doesn’t actually listen to her clients. I took my ex to court because he stopped following or court order for me to get my daughter on the weekends. I drove from Raleigh to Zebulon and then on to Rocky Mount when he stopped showing up at the designated place in Zebulon with my 2 yr old in the back seat. I told this to my lawyer along with the fact that he wasn’t in compliance with the order because he hasn’t shared important information about her doctor visit nor school information. I also dog told her I really couldn’t afford a lawyer but had to have my son’s father help me pay. So I wanted my ex husband to be responsible for repaying my attorney fees since he was in violation of the order. Ms Britt didn’t along with my ex’s attorney came to the agreement that I should sign a consent order rather than actually bring my case before the judge. The consent order was for me to have supervised visitation despite all that I shared with Ms Britt including the fact that my ex has had a history of DV against me. But she insisted that would be the only and the best way for me to see my child although I told her I didn’t believe that would work out well and I’m sure I don’t need supervised visitation. She also stated the judge would frown on the fact that I’ve had a mental breakdown after dealing with all of this and other traumatic experiences. She refused to let me go before the judge and ultimately got me to sign my rights away more. Now my ex put me on child support and I still do not get to spend regular time with my daughter without him being present or another family member of mine who also has an unhealthy relationship with me. And every time I see me daughter she cries about not being able to go with me or asks if she can go home with me now. So now I have to ask for help again just to get another attorney to fix this mess. NO DO NOT HIRE MS BRITT!!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
