Sarah Jonovich is AMAZING! She got BOTH of my felony charges dropped before even having to go to court. She is experienced and very knowledgeable. I was really nervous about talking to anybody about my case but she made me feel so comfortable. She is extremely thorough and reliable, she kept me informed throughout the whole process. She made sure that I understood the charges, the possible outcomes of the case and what to expect. I never had an issue getting in touch with her, she returned all of my phone calls (there were many) in a timely manner and I never felt as if I was bothering her or wasting her time. Sarah is super accommodating and eager to help wherever/however it is needed! Her services are reasonably priced and she is worth EVERY penny! She truly exceeded my expectations and I am so thankful that she represented me.

Don't be fooled by her size, she is a bulldog! She is extremely professional and I was comfortable with her from the moment we met. She really cares about her clients and will go above and beyond. I was involved in a motor vehicle accident and panicked. Sarah kept me informed the entire time. She didn't pull any punches, told me what to expect and what the charges entailed. She fought hard to get my charge reduced and succeeded. I thank her everyday that I wake up in my bed and not in a jail cell.

Sarah Jonovich is the best attorney I have ever hired! She is fast, accurate, and cuts right to the chase. I had given Sarah approximately 1 week notice that I wished to hire an attorney before my first court date and she had the case dropped in 4 days and I did not even have to show up in court. She is always available to contact and responds immediately to any concerns you may have regarding your case. She has some of the best knowledge in the industry because she was a Prosecutor before working as a Defense Attorney, so she knows both sides of the game and handles her work very professionally. I would strongly recommend Sarah to anyone looking for a highly experienced and super client friendly and supportive attorney!

My wife and I are extremely pleased with the services we received from the Sokoloff and Weinstein Law Firm, and Elliot, in particular. He created a relaxed atmosphere in which we were able to articulate our legal needs. A good listener, Elliot was able to help us refine our service request. We were also pleased with his sense of urgency as seen in the quick turn -around of the documents and the thoroughness of the review. We can't imagine anyone else to represent us after our experience with Elliot. We strongly recommend contacting this law firm if you have any legal work to be done.

My husband and I live in the Pacific Northwest and were in need of an attorney to represent us when we sold the Florida condo we inherited. It turned out to be a difficult situation, and I consider us so lucky to have found Donna. We couldn't have been more pleased with her work. She was knowledgeable, timely, and attentive to detail -- as well as being overall a nice person. We can recommend her without reservation!

Wish in this area I could give less than a one star! I retained her services years ago, and still living the repercussions! She does not know basic rules the court requires, she was not experienced in areas she claims she handles. She missed deadlines, forgot to set motions for hearings, filed contradictory pleadings, she knows not what she does, simple as that! Stay away, I've never met an attorney who cared less about the outcome for a client and client's welfare. I sincerely hope the Bar takes action against her license to practice!

At first I was skeptical about her because I’ve never heard too much about her firm ; and no one really heard about her and her work . After the consultation I felt a lot more confident . Ms. Evelyn was hired to defend me in criminal court . Although the case went in for longer than I wanted to (over a year), the ending result was worth it . Charges were dropped and I was free person. I went from having 2 felonies against me, to a little violation. Good work on her end

She was a public defender back in 2008. Unfortunately she was assigned my case in West Palm Beach. She was the worst uncaring attorney. She got me the worst plea deal and had me sitting in gun club jail for 43 days. Please I beg you DO NOT HIRE THIS WOMAN!!!

He talks a good game and plays one too. He will bill you for anything and everything and take forever to get the job done. His staff is useless, incompetent, and unprofessional at times. There are plenty of other lawyers. Run, don't walk, from this attorney.

If I could give Sleazy salesman attorney Robinson zero stars I would. Hired him for a case which took years to resolve and all I got from it were bills and an unresolved case. His administrative staff is incompetent - simply put. I got bills twice for the same thing and when I asked for simple tasks to be done - it fell on deaf ears. Do NOT hire him.

A terrible attorney, one who realizes that I took money out of my retirement account to put towards my retainer. - 20,000 dollars - "we will depose all of the principals ASAP!"- from Tom Ice. Tom Ice put himself on every invoice sent to me in 2012 & 2013 even though it was his associates "working" on my case researching "breaking and entering" to the tune of $27,000.00. Including $350.00 emails sent to the defendants, which were ignored, and never followed up on by Tom. I was a foreclosure client, but because I work for BNY Mellon, who Tom hates, I was dumped as a client on the same day Tom Ice was shot down in February 2013 in the Florida Supreme Court, in a case against my employer.

Thomas Ice, and his firm, ICE Legal, are the most experienced foreclosure defense attorneys I have ever worked with... Thomas, and his impressive "ICE Team," all work together, collectively giving you a lot of brain power, experience, and a BIG advantage. I see Thomas as Chief Strategist and Quarterback. His reputation is that of a genius that deserves on-going applause. Compassionate. He cares if you stay in your home... and he and his team give it everything to make sure you do. I am in three of my house(s) because of his knowledge, energy, and skills. He is well-known as an extraordinary litigator; and is consistently rated the highest and Best by his peers. He knows the laws and procedures better than any; and this is a world where "detailia" matters, along with being incredibly articulate. Thomas is a solid citizen. And I must say, a kind and lovely person that I would recommend to anyone who wants the best... I am proud to say this man is my attorney -- especially when I'm in the Courtroom. Sincerely, Anne, 2014

This attorney was retained to handle a simple 'cloud on title' case. He did not do his 'due diligence' with the case. He was only interested in attorney fees. He did not provide adequate professional service. I did pay him diligently tho and he still bailed out on me right before my trial. I then had to hire another attorney, but could not straighten out the case because this attorney had put me into a poor litigation position. I lost alot of money because of this.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
