My first call to Mr. Shapiro was just to ask basic questions and it turned out to be very informative with doctors names that I really needed to pursue for my second opinion. Once my surgery and most of my recovery was done I contacted Mr. Shapiro again and he was extremely helpful in my final process of my injury claim. Thank you for all of your help in this matter.

I hired Jesse to get me the medical care I needed from my work injury. As soon as I hired him not only did he have me a doctor willing to do further investigation he had the care I needed and got to the bottom of it right away. He saw straight through the bull that the company’s doctor were putting me through. It was truly a breath of fresh air knowing someone truly cared and took time to understand the pain I was going through. Jesse Thank You sooo much

I had BS charge brought up on me, I gave Chas all the evidence needed for my defense, and after 5 minutes. Dismissed. It didn't hurt that I didn't do it and proved it. But Chas rolled up his sleeves, dipped his burly man hands into the bucket of law and got the deed done. This man is incredible! It was truly majestic working with this man! I will definitely keep he and his firm in mind. He is the Jedi to the evil Siths. He is the Stevie Hagar of law. The man rips! Great job Chas, and that you for being awesome!

I met Chris around 1998-2000 while residing in Apex,NC. He not only had my best interests to heart, but he educated me on various facets of both legal nd real estate industries. He was forthcoming, honest, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. Although Chris wasn't in the market to employ anyone, he became my mentor and trained me to search residential titles and to perform residential closings until the laws changed to where attorneys had to be present for the execution if certain closing documents; he is extremely ethical! I am now relocating back to the NC area after all these years, and in need of someone i can trust. I was seeking to locate him due to his expertise and due diligence, but believe I have found him, and you should grasp the opportunity to experience this ethical legal expert as well!

I do not recommend. As a fellow professional this law office and their staff are unprofessional and difficult to work with. I represented a buyer client and the attorneys and their staff had no clue on the file a week from closing. The attorney did not read the contract and negated the sellers concessions. The attorney, I believe Drew, was rude when I asked if he read the contract. You are the attorney you job is to follow thr contract. Clients signed at 1045 am, attorneys office failed to send over documents so the transaction could be recorded at the county. 3 hours later my clients still can not get it to their home that has been fully paid for in cash.

We needed a lawyer to act on our behalf quickly. We called Renorda and left a message on a Sunday evening. She called me back because of the tone of my voice and she knew my husband and myself needed her services. Her paralegal Mandy spent over one hour (maybe one and one half hours) on the phone with us that Sunday evening and by Monday morning we met Renorda and continued to talk. By that afternoon she got the court order for temporary custody of our granddaughter. By the evening we were reunited with our granddaughter. Renorda knows the law, makes sure she has all her papers in order in advance and really fights for her clients in court. Because of her knowledge and empathy we had our baby girl back and now her parents will work out their issues with custody with their own attorneys. She ensured the safety of our granddaughter at a time when it was needed. Thank You Renorda Pryor and Mandy for being there for us during this process. We couldn't have survived without you.

If you’re looking for an attorney to represent you, Kelly Miller is scraping the bottom of the barrel. She doesn’t return calls, does not have the clients OR children’s best interest in mind rather is driven by money to support her alcoholism. Yes she told me she is an alcoholic and numerous times in court she had times of not being focused. She failed to file a motion for contempt of visitation after she said she NEEDED more money and was paid in cash, and after not returning calls or text messages I fired her. It took her 5 MONTHS to file a motion to withdraw. In the meantime there were hearings involving me where I hadn’t been served and she falsely claimed to be representing me. When she filed to withdraw, her reasoning was lack of pay. Do your research and go with someone who is reputable. She should be disbarred PERIOD.

John was excellent when recruiting me as a client. Once he got his fee, I had to call him and email him constantly. He has several phone numbers. When you call most of the numbers, he has five, the mail boxes are full and you cannot leave a message. He seems to always have different "assistants" and if you go to the office, most of the time it is closed! Run away from this "legal" professional. Any client should NOT have to chase after their lawyer after paying retainer fee to have their legal matters helped with. A lawyer should be your advocate and NOT accuse, disparage, and gaslight you. Review his disciplinary record on the NC Bar webpage. RUN away as fast as you can!

Mr. Holmes has been my attorney for over 2 years now. He's been handling all my legal issues pertaining to my divorce. He's be very forth coming about expectations of the process and has earned my trust by simply keeping my interest and the interest of my kids at the forefront. He's very responesive to my calls, and will always go the extra mile to listen when other attorneys I've had won't call for days at a time. The results I've gotten in the court room when I've had to go have been Great!

Mr. Silverman, was and continues to be an awesome attorney. Although I saw the decorative comments by prior clients, I do not see anything of merit to what they say. Mr. Silverman answers my calls at 7:30 in the evening and even on the weekends. Meets with me after hours (6-7 or 8). We had a trial last Wednesday that simply proved his knowledge of what is supposed to go on in a courtroom. He is extremely respected by everyone, including judges. In fact, he was recommended to me by a previous Judge and another previous judge told me that it couldn't get any better. I am extremely comfortable with my decision with hiring this man! I am actually floored to see the things people say on AVVO. The man that I am dealing with is not even remotely close to what these folks are saying.

Read the other review from August 2021.. that is my experience, exactly. To get more precise, Kristy's paralegal (Sheila) is probably the biggest problem in the entire equation. You send her an email(or 10) and she says "it has been sent to Kristy) then you literally hear nothing, for days, weeks, or months yet they have no issue charging you and asking for additional funds? The only way to get traction(which means a real person on the other side) is to contact the office manager, Julie, and the firm owner(Chas) and even then, you just get lip service... this is the worst situation for me(trying to settle property after an entire year, ex spouse and I agree on everything),I have paid thousands to them, have been charged thousand, yet have received nothing.... other than consistent emails stating it will be completed. Stay away from them unless you like to bleed money.

I would not recommend Kristy Patton. I have been in a high conflict situation with my ex and Kristy has not been effective representation for my case. I have sent several emails and messages (close to 20) over one particular matter and they are not answered. The communication is close to zero except when she wants money. I have sent emails, left messages etc regarding a courtorder that is not being followed. I am always told by the paralegal “the information is forwarded and Kristy will get back to you”…which never happens. I will then receive an email to put more money on my account without a bill; I ask about a bill and am told she hasn’t time. The entire process is unethical and the inability to communicate with a client and file proper motions for resolution in ongoing. I have gone to the courthouse to obtain paperwork and to verify there is something being done on my case. I have spent thousands of dollars and 4 years trying to resolve a situation without progress. I have lost faith in the legal system and in attorneys. I am completely disappointed and discouraged. Sadly, I would never recommend an attorney who is not an advocate for their client; I do not feel like she has been an advocate and has been subpar in representing my case. The inability to communicate and file motions is not acceptable.

Cameron was terrible in my case! I ended up firing him and he had nine times to dismiss himself from my case and did not show up for any of the nine scheduled times to dismiss himself from the case. Cameron did finally show up but only after the statute of limitations was expired in my personal injury claim which prohibited my new attorney from being able to get the job done correctly. I strongly recommend that anyone look at a more professional attorney in any case in which a attorney is needed.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
