Mike had a strong background in the area in which he represented me. He was thorough in his review of the case and developing a plan to minimize my penalty. Mike show genuine concern about my case while balancing his busy workload. He was thorough in his review beginning to end and conscious of my fee. So many times the legal profession worries people (and me) that generating fees is their only objective. Not Mike. Mike was fair and made me feel like I truly had someone in my corner. I would strongly recommend Mike to anyone.

Mr. D'Amico has been advising me on various issues regarding shared parenting with my ex-husband, and has recently represented me in a court hearing for such a matter. Given my experiences with Mr. D'Amico, I cannot recommend him highly enough. He genuinely cares about his clients, and goes the extra mile to make sure everything is covered. Additionally, Mr. D'Amico is not the type of attorney that tells you what you want to hear; he is always honest, and has many years of experience from which to draw to provide his clients with the best advice. Legal matters are usually unpleasant, and are always stressful, but Mr. D'Amico did everything he could to make sure I was well prepared, informed, and as much at ease as I possibly could be. I could not have hoped for better representation than Mr. D'Amico provided.

Susan was very professional and knowledgeable in her field as an attorney. She walked me through every step and was very quick to respond when I needed her assistance. Even after discharge, any time I contacted her, she remained very polite and was constantly offering assistance with any questions or concerns. I highly recommend her.

Cynthia Brandenburg is hands down THE BEST Attorney I have EVER WORKED/DEALT WITH! This young lady is so incredibly knowledgeable, persistent, educated, driven, motivated, respectful, respected, loyal, faithful, firm, dependable, devoted, committed , trustworthy, reliable, empathetic and determined it is UNREAL to have found an attorney so scarce! I would NOT EVER hire anyone but this woman PERIOD! If a person needs justice this is the lady to hire! She has worked such miracles for my husband and I it’s unreal! As she has shown so much respect and faithfulness to us we undoubtedly give her that in return. She truly is the “real deal” I (we) are so fortunate to have found this woman we are forever grateful for all she has done for us and we wish to share with all whom we can, in hopes to help others with this woman’s abilities! We are in the Cincinnati area but I’m pretty sure she works mostly in this area as well as Dayton, Lebanon and pretty much all areas in between. We call her #BOSSLADY

Mark Webb is the most childish attorney I’ve ever met—he personally insulted my own attorney when he learned of unfavorable evidence for his client. I don’t see how he even remains licensed to practice law; I’m definitely reporting him to the local bar association and hope that they put a stop to his unprofessional harassment of other attorneys and nonsensical motions to withhold evidence that another party legitimately should have access to.

Pamela is one of the hardest working Attorneys I've met. She dug her feet in and did not sway, stood her ground against the prosecutor. She is amazing with keeping her clients up to date ,and never stopped until the results we wanted came through.DISMISSED!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER. I am so glad I hired her and would again in a heartbeat (hope I don't have to). If you are concedering an Attorney,do not hesitate giving her a call. She is sweet as can be plus highly professional, rare .

My husband and I hired her because my husband was wrongly accused of an ovi. He had a prior ovi, and when the police officer checked his past, he decided to charge him with ovi, magically smelling alcohol in the car after seeing his past record. We weren't drinking at all that day. After hiring pam and her coming with us with deals she said we're decent which required jail time, we declined. My husband was 100%innocent. It eventually got dropped. My step daughter got into a wreck which was sketchy, but she was young and didn't know the system, so we called pam. She was very rude to us, saying she knew the other party. Well, she knows us too, and from what I have seen on court dockets, she's not represented by anyone so I don't understand why she couldn't answer basic questions. She was short and rude, not counting she does not wear proper clothes which covers her midsection and walks into court making you wonder if you made a bad decision. Our stepdaughter is 23,her 2yr old daughter was in the car, and she now has to take breathing treatments every 4hours. But you knowing the other party even though you know us is a little hypocritical to say the least.

I have had the opportunity to work with many lawyers in the Dayton Ohio area, Marshall Lachman being one of those lawyers. I found Marshall to be dedicated, energetic, and persistent in assuring his clients have the best possible defense. Marshall is a very skilled trial lawyer and will not hesitate to go to trial. I would recommend him and place him on the top 10 list of capable trial lawyers in the area.

He didn't do anything for me, I would have been better off with a public defender. He must have paid someone for his previous reviews that list him as 5 STARS, in my opinion he is worth a half star just because he had a very nice assistant. He knew I was innocent but he wanted me to take a plea bargain so he didn't have to do the necessary work to prove my innocence. My appeal attorney said this shouldn't have gone to court. To top it off when I complained to Kevin after I was called to Jury Duty and explained the process as to why he didn't recommend a jury or tell me that I didn't have to take the stand, he told me not to contact him again or he would call the police on me for harassing him.

Absolutely the most unprofessional person I’ve ever dealt with. I obtained Andrea to terminate my marriage. She sent 1 email to my soon to be ex wife and then completely ghosted me! I called and emailed Ms. Ostrowski countless number of times with absolutely no response! She doesn’t have a receptionist which was the first red flag I should’ve seen. I wrote her a check for $750 to retain her and she NEVER cashed it (second red flag) thank God she didn’t so I canceled the check. I am an extremely patient and understanding person but for her to blatantly ignore my calls and emails was absolutely bizarre and ridiculous.

I paid this lawyer to represent me. Initially the defendant showed up for court. Then after a disagreement between parties he no longer showed up for the court. He twice instructed the magistrate I was no longer his client after agreeing with the other parties lawyer to continue to work on information. At no time has this lawyer made any attempts to bill or refund our funds.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
