Alex was great to work with, he was very thorough when explaining what I was to expect through the process of being granted custody. Anytime I reached out with a question he was very prompt at answering. I have had other attorneys in the past who were not as thorough and seemed to take their time with my case; Alex was the complete opposite. I now have custody of two beautiful girls all with Alex’s help.

I was referred to Alex by another lawyer I had previously worked with on a different matter. Alex helped me get my rights back as a father of my children. His negotiation skills and strategic thinking not only helped reunite me with my kids, but also saved me from having to go through an expensive court battle during COVID times. Part of me wishes I would have not settled, because I know I would have been in great hands in the court room with Mr. Gavriilidis. I have already recommended him to friends twice now, and will continue to direct any friends or family his way. You cannot go wrong with this man, he's the real deal!

I created a trust years ago when I inherited assets from my father. Simple. 50/50 to each of my children. Then one adult daughter became disabled and it was suggested that I set up a special trust for her. The other daughter was now married with two kids. Scott walked me through lots of options and raised issues I hadn't considered before. Creating a trust is more than just divvying up assets. It takes thought and consideration. He was patient and thorough. I feel I now have a trust that protects the assets, is tailored to the needs of my children, and that represents my desires for use of the assets. I highly recommend Scott.

Scott did a complete estate plan for us. As a retired CPA, I have an understanding of what needed to be done, He did a great job. But of greater importance, was his ability to communicate with my wife and me. He was able to tactfully call our attention to different methods of achieving our goals. Recently, our son passed and we had to amend the plan to meet our changed goals. Again, he was very helpful and helped us define what needed to be done. As a person, he listens well and understands your needs and desires. He is friendly and doesn’t not try to superimpose his logic.

Angelika and I hired Courtney to review our documents after we filled them out. It was great peace of mind to have her check over the information we filled out, as those forms can be quite confusing. We submitted the paper work and had no problems in the process with USCIS. We feel that she went above and beyond with the service she provided for us. Not only did she do a good job at what we hired her for, she also made herself available if we had any questions after we submitted the papers. It was great knowing that anytime we had any questions, she would promptly get back to us. She was even able to send us Angelika's Bio metric appointment form when it didn't get delivered to our address. Courtney really does care about the work that she does. It was great to hire a lawyer that we felt actually cared about our case.

I initially contacted Courtney for what I thought would be a brief consult, but ended up hiring her as my attorney. My husband had petitioned me as his wife to get an adjustment of status for residency. Unfortunately, we separated before our interivew due to infidelity, but still wanted to go through with the petition. After consulting with several attorneys, I thought my only option would be to pretend we were still together and we were both extremely worried because we were not comfortable committing perjury especially considering we had a bonafide marriage. Courtney obviously advised us not to lie and brought to our attention the potential of a different avenue to still get an approval for our petition. I went ahead and hired her, she did research about the details of my potential case. Upon her findings, she guided me through the process I would be going through and helped draft a letter to bring to immigration the day of my interview referencing Matter of Boromand among others, asking immigration to approve my petition on the basis that my marriage was bonafide at its inception. At first, I was very fearful since no attorney for 8 months of consults brought this potential alternative to light. However, Courtney knowledge of the law, sources, and guidance through this process gave me a hope I never had before. She also helped me gather and reviewed my evidence, and even offered emotional support in this process and even made an effort to get me an attorney to show up with me to the interview (she resides in Idaho and I reside in California). This was to no avail since my interview was scheduled about 2 weeks after our first consult phone call, but she assured me I would be okay. She was right. This week, my petition was approved without much contest from my immigration officer. I would definitely recommend Courtney as an attorney.

My husband and I met with, and hired, Peggy to assist us with our adoption. We had never worked with an attorney before, and were impressed with her warmth and compassion. Peggy walked us through the entire process with patience and confidence. We are forever grateful for her time and services. Our adoption was finalized in 2016 and we could not be more pleased with the entire process. We highly recommend her. She is an excellent attorney and a wonderful person.

We had encountered a unique situation regarding our adopted daughter and a previous foster parent. Ms. Peggy Bond was not only knowledgeable in adoption law, but was a great advocate for ensuring every decision we made was for the best interest of our daughter. Issues with adoption are emotional. Parents may not be thinking clearly, nor know long term consequences of adoption decisions. Ms. Bond was honest, has outstanding support connections / referrals within the community, and genuinely cared about the future of our family unit. This case was 10 years ago. Now as we reflect on the decisions and court actions we made with Ms. Bond, they had been for the best for our daughter. We highly recommend her for all adoption situations requiring legal assistance.

Long story short, after 15 months of made-up (false) noise complaints by my homophobic neighbor I pushed on Principle Property management (PPM) to deal with the issue. In doing so PPM issued a 24 hr eviction notice to me. I sought help and found Mr. Capp. He made time to see me right away. He reviewed the details and gave me clear concise information on how the legal process works in landlord/tenant matters. With that first visit, we made a quick strategy. Mr. Capp continued to provide his counsel and advice with leaving me to make the right decisions for myself. He provided very clear and heart-dropping details on the risks I faced with each stage of the process. He communicated with me on every step that was going on, and I felt well informed about what was going on. I appreciated that Mr. Capp would listen to the thoughts and feelings I was expressing with excited Italian hand gestures. He demonstrated the human side of the law in regards to my fears and anger with understanding and yet with a professional drive to represent this matter to the fullest. Joshua understood trial was costly and risky, even though I was ready to "Dam the Torpedoes" in this matter he sought a reasonable solution out of court (redirecting my anger). While I did not get what I WANTED out of this matter, he helped get me what I needed to be in control of my own destiny. I highly recommend Joshua Capp for the legal needs you may have that he covers. Mine was a landlord/tenant matter. --Thank you to all the staff as well, always with a smile and kind words.

Lohrke's Attorney explained the process of expunging my past record, This is what I was looking for so I hired them. The process was fairly simple on my end and they did their work as described. The cost and timeline were as discussed at the start of the process. There were no holdups on our end and the wait if any was just the timeline discussed at the office meeting with them. I now have a cop y of my clear record. Thank you very much, Jesse Lohrke

I live in Florida but called Jesse Lohrke with some issues with a past Oregon record and expungement that I wanted to take care of. Jesse took the time to look up my record, explain everything to me in detail, including challenges I may face, and despite being able to do it himself, thought it would be in my best interest to use another lawyer in the county of the issues since there are some unique challenges specific to Marion County. That showed me a lot about the integrity of this firm. Once I get certain things resolved, I will absolutely be using Jesse Lohrke for my record expungement!

When I realized my marriage was not something I could stay in any longer I Googled "divorce attorney". I knew I needed the help of an attorney. I was 54 years old and the thought of starting over was unbearable. Patrick helped me understand the reality of the situation. He was honest. His truth hurt but it was the truth. He also assured me life would get better. It was hard to envision how that could be possible. I trusted Patrick and the process. Soon it was over. What he said would happen happened INCLUDING life getting better. My marriage ended March 2015 and a new life started that same day. My life is pretty good today and even paying the spousal support Pat helped negotiate on my behalf, doesn't bother me at all. When I hear people complain and rage on about their divorce attorneys I smile to myself because I actually like my attorney. He was moral, ethical, and honest. That's about all you can hope for. Thanks Pat !

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
