I consulted with Rachel twice through my Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and retained her services, knowing that she would cover all aspects of my divorce proceedings. She provided education, adjunct resources, support, and transparency throughout. I truly could not have done this on my own and Rachel quickly responded to any questions/concerns I’ve had. Divorce is not an easy process but Rachel’s knowledge and expertise made this a seamless transition. I would definitely recommend Rachel Virk if you’re seeking a thorough, direct, and results-driven attorney. Great experience!

This is my second time writing a review for Ms. Virk, the first of which was under the name FDB. After retaining Ms. Virk, she delivered the most favorable outcome that I could imagine. She even directly helped both of my children, writing them letters for school on multiple occasions. She is a very caring lawyer, but more importantly a very caring person. She truly is invested in every one of her clients, and that attitude transcends any work she could do. Not to mention, she does amazing work. There is not a lawyer I could imagine that would positively affect me more than Mrs. Virk has. She is wonderful and I unequivocally recommend her to anyone in need of a compassionate divorce lawyer. Like I said in my first review, she is a warrior.

I'm a Virginia lawyer and I'm a client of Shayan Noor, why? Because he is an excellent lawyer, he's personable, highly intelligent, knows the law and has experience with the courts, which makes him a killer lawyer. I confidently tell my clients to reach out to him and see if he is a good fit for them and when they retain him, he fights for them tooth and nail and has achieved many astonishing outcomes for his clients. When a surgeon goes to another surgeon to have the same type of surgery he does, done on himself, you as a patient can also trust the surgeon who is doing surgery on the surgeon. When a lawyer has Shayan Noor represent them in court, you too can have Shayan represent you with confidence.

I have hired Mr. Noor twice in the past 15 months for two separate incidents. From the beginning Mr. Noor aggressively defended me and was able to get both of my cases dismissed! Mr. Noor is simply an amazing attorney. He works with you and he is very affordable. He also responds to any questions or concerns promptly and keeps you updated on your case. I’m referring him to all my friends and family. Give him a chance and you’ll be a lifetime member with him. Amazing personality and professional ethics.

Shayan is what you are looking for. He is really professional and knowledgeable; trustworthy and communicative, but beside all that, he actually cares about you and yours, not money hungry machine. In my case, Shayan could just take an initial “easy money” deal but he advised me not to do it, even knowing that the case was going to take longer for him and us, at the end was worthy, because he gain our trust and is now our family lawyer. He is a real legal advisor, believe me; “he is the man”

If you are looking for a hard charging lawyer to represent you in any legal issue, then Scott Ives is your man! I reached out to Scott for legal consultation to see if he could represent me for my divorce case. I had a brief conversation with him and immediately felt a good vibe. I hired him and he began to work on my case. He is a straight shooter and no non-sense type of guy. He will tell what you need to hear, not what you want to hear because he knows what is in your best interest. Afterall, he has more than 30 years of experience in the legal battlefield. I found to be him focused, knowledgeable and competent in his work. He explained the process and best outcomes for my divorce case. He was patient and worked very well with me. He has always been there for me when I needed him. His paralegal, Siria, was also great. Whenever I called her, she promptly addressed my questions or concerns. The entire period, he worked tirelessly and in a professional manner. This he did extremely well to the benefit of my case. I was overly satisfied with the results. I sincerely appreciated his hard work and dedication. Scott is indeed a true fighter. He will always give more than 100% and will never give up. He will work and negotiate with the opposing attorney to reach a favorable settlement. He treats his clients with kindness, respect, friendliness, empathy, and understanding. His legal fees are reasonable as well. He would promptly send me the receipt for services rendered in detail upon request. I highly recommend anyone to seek out Scott in representing you for any legal issue. Trust me on this, it is definitely worth having Scott on your side.

Luckily I had never had the need for a lawyer before in my life, so I was skeptical in how to select one. Of course, google shows you a million results, and then ads in your apps after you search, but after calling different lawyers and dealing with their unavailability; I dialed to the Law Office of Scott S. Ives, I expressed how urgent my matter was, he dropped what he was doing and immediately started helping me out on my case! He has proven to be reliable, knowledgeable, empathic, and well known in the local area. The other party had the "big" firm, with all the names and partners, and the more expensive bill, but Mr. Ives proved to be triumphant in the end; if you hire the other guys, you will rarely speak to your lawyer, you will end up talking to the receptionist, the paralegal, and rarely your lawyer. That doesn't work for me, I want to talk to the man that is going to be standing next to me when we enter the ring and that is what you will get here, with Mr. Ives! The big firm lawyer was so excluded from the details of the case, that that she would make mistakes that anyone else who is aware of your case would never make. Mr. Ives puts your case in the forefront of my life, working on it at any time your situation requires, teaches you steps you will encounter in the process and creates the right expectation along the way. I will always be thankful for Mr. Ives's services, as his relentless determination, and amazing work ethic. In a bad situation, where you need legal representation, Mr. Ives has been blessing to my life.

From the moment I met (online) Ms. Vaillancourt, I knew I was in good hands. She started by introducing herself and explaining that she would be my lawyer for the day in court. She made sure I had been given my questions of what the trustee would ask of me so I would be relaxed at knowing exactly what to expect. When I arrived at the courthouse, she began explaining everything that would happen in the courtroom. I came in somewhat scared and worried, but she calmed any fears or concerns by answering all of my questions before we went into the courtroom, even the ones about the smallest details. Once in the courtroom, and before we started, she explained again, step-by-step what the procedure would be, where I would sit, where the trustee and his aides would sit, what they would do, and I felt myself beginning to relax. I watched other lawyers go up with their clients and was amazed that they were no where near as prepared as we were. I had all of my information ready, and so when I saw that one person ahead of us still had not filed certain paperwork, I knew again I was in good hands. When my turn came to go before the trustee, Ms. Vaillancourt sat beside me in front of him when he asked questions, and gave me assistance when I did not understand a question, and helped me through the whole process. When the trustee asked me questions, I answered in yes, no, etc, and I was done in only about 5 minutes, unlike the persons who had lawyers from a different office. It had taken 15 minutes to half an hour for them to go through the questions. She is smart, professional in manners- knowledge- and appearance, and answers all of the questions you have. She is very knowledgeable in the law, in how the court works, and what is expected of her clients. She is very kind and considerate, and understands how hard this process is for people. When she spoke with me outside the courtroom, she spoke quietly so as to not let others in the room hear my information and that showed me I could trust her. I had never gone through any kind of process like this before, so I was grateful that I had Kaitlin with me the whole way. And, she was concerned enough about me to do a follow-up to see how I was doing. Total care, kindness, knowledge, and responsibility for her clients.

Kaitlin(Katie) is an amazing attorney. She responds promptly to emails and telephone calls. She is extremely thorough and makes you feel safe and that your financial situation is secure in her legal hands. She had to work quickly with some matters and did so. I would highly recommend her. When I reflect on her assistance I would say two words come to mind, "reliable and thorough" yet she always has a smile and a supportive word to help you feel more at ease and less stressful

She did a great job She responded to all emails including one from my parents and answered questions Concerning my bankruptcy and the garnishment case. When I went to the hearing for The garnished wages I was very nervous and she eased my nerves by telling Me that it would be ok. We ended up losing that case but I really felt comfortable With her. When I needed help with custody and visitation I sought advise from fellow attorneys who litigate in family courts across Northern Virginia. They all recommended Laura Hamilton to handle my complex and heart rending appeal. She has accomplished more with her resolve and tenacity than any of the so called prestigious pedigree firms whom I had hired in the past. I have witnessed her intense preparation, professional demeanor, and courtroom brilliance sway previously skeptical judges. Her reputation impressed my fellow lawyers, and now, I am over awed by her dedication. I am grateful to have Laura Hamilton on my side.

Laura is the type of attorney that you see on television shows like "Law and Order." She's a formidable opponent, and extremely logical and rational. One thing that I loved about having Laura as my counsel is that even if she asserted that we should take a certain action-----she would still be weighing the strategy associated with taking that action up until the very last minute. Laura is very STEALTHY. Her mind SHREDS information, down to the finest detail. In addition to her legal prowess, Laura is extremely nurturing. There were many instances in her time spent with me where she gave me practical advice for my specific situation that had nothing to do with practicing law. She remained accessible via phone and text, even at night and on the weekends. If you need an attorney who is going to go the extra mile to not only provide you with representation but support then Laura is your person. She's argued cases in front of the Supreme Court and more. What touched me the most about Laura, was her willingness to work with me financially. She's certainly seasoned enough, to not have to do that. She did that because she believed it was the right thing to do and there were many instances in which she would say "Look, that will work itself out. Lets focus on the case." Her character as a human being is what shines even brighter than her legal prowess. Another thing I want to mention is that when Laura drafted motions on my behalf, they were completely solid. She filled her motions with tons of case law, shutting down the emotion based arguments of the opposing counsel. HIRE LAURA!

I worked with Kamran when I was first starting out in the patent law profession in 2004. We worked together at a private law firm for both domestic/foreign clients, where we were responsible for preparing new application drafts as well as domestic/foreign prosecution for technologies including semiconductor / memory fabrication and telecommunications. Kamran is a hard-working and flexible attorney that can handle projects of all sizes, from establishing basic IP strategy for small companies / solo inventors, as well as servicing larger and more structured clients which require more focused patent prosecution tactics for specific cases. Kamran is both a personal friend and colleague, and I would not hesitate to direct prospective clients his way.

a bad experience my aunt had a case with him he charged her 12,000 dollars & he did nothing more than avoid deportation & close the case in court which I don't think the case is closed because with what a terrible lawyer he is I doubt he is telling the truth The truth is, my aunt went to an asilo the judge denied it due to lack of evidence, now the big question is why are you looking for a lawyer if he is not going to gather all the necessary evidence, his job is to defend me & help me in my case, not to let him judge denied me my asilo so if it's any use to you, this lawyer is of no use, he's just a thief, but I don't recommend him, terrible service.

I wish there was an option for 0 stars, because Hernandez is a complete joke of an attorney! Hired him for a worker's comp case and because of his poor advice and his inability to do his job, I lost a lot of money. Also, the agreement that is given to his clients has English and Spanish translations which are very different from each other! Read other Google reviews on him and you will see how horrible he is! Plenty of competent attorneys to choose from in the DMV area.

I didn’t want to even leave the 1 star. This man is only good to take money that’s it and has a bad attitude. He represented me and lied the day before court promising so much but when I came to court he knew they were sending me to jail and I really don’t even think he did any research for my case. He asked my wife if I had a background when he should have already knew that once I retained him. So many crooked things about this man! Also my wife was not able to come on the back for the meetings and very condescending. I could go on about this man, please do not waste you’re money or time on this lawyer you will regret it. I truly believe a court appointed lawyer would and would have done better.

I was a client of M. Adams. He convinced me to start a case. I submitted him all the necessary information and paid almost the whole retainer. At pretrial hearing weird things happened. He gave me to sign a document right before hearing with values which didn’t match the information I provided and said that decision won’t be based on it – it’s just formality. You want to trust your lawyer. He wouldn’t say things he was supposed to protect me as his client. I had to stand for myself as much as I could, which is difficult when you have attorney. Pre-trial decision was very fair for Defendant and didn’t comply with M. Adams’s promises. After confronting him – I didn’t get any answer and he wouldn’t answer for a month with my request to give me my file. In a month he contacted, apologized. I still was hoping that it may work and I couldn’t quite afford to pay to another attorney. We met once to file one more document and then he disappeared again. It left very little time before final hearing and I was trying to contact him. Finally we met and he gave me any bill with ridiculous charges and acted against agreement. I realized I need to pick up file. I was shocked after reviewing it. He could take oath on one date and submit documents on another, which wouldn’t match what you gave him. He was late on all terms and all important documents were filed in favor of Defendant.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
