Andrea was amazing as I started my LLC. Andrea explained all the steps, was very easy to talk to when questions came up. If Andrea didn't know answer to my question she researched & track down the answer.

Andrea and her team are professional, accurate and timely. They worked hard to accomplish our goals for a property lease contract. She went above and beyond to even contact local entities in order to ensure our contract would be valid according to its location and local rulings.

David Hammermaster provides excellent legal advice in an easy style which makes him instantly approachable with the most difficult questions. I usually feel intimidated by attorneys because of their legal jargon, which I don't know. But not with Mr. Hammermaster. I felt completely comfortable asking about life & death issues, and sharing personal facts about myself. As a result, David was able to fine tune his advice to fit my needs exactly.

I would definitely recommend the Terry Law Firm to manage any process relating to estates and wills after death. My process was pretty much flawless. After giving all the pertinent information to the law firm they facilitated the process, all I had to do was wait for the final outcome. Please keep in mind the process does not happen overnight. Have patience and let the firm do the work and I guarantee you will have a positive result. I give thanks to Kelly and the Terry Law Firm and will recommend their services to friends and family in the future.

We have been dragging our feet for decades. We finally met with Scott to do our wills and estate planning. Scott and his team are well versed in what needs to be done. He understood where we were coming from, took good notes. One phone visit to get details, and they took care of everything. One month after the first visit, we walked out with everything we need. You won't go wrong when you hire Scott to take care of your legal needs. Glad we chose him.

I hired him to represent me. He does not fight at all for you. He "goes with the flow" and does the bare minimum. He will contact you the day before a hearing to inform you that you must attend. When asked why he didn't notify earlier his response is "my bad". Will only communicate via phone so there is no record of conversation's or what he said to client. Spends half his time in Utah. Gets easily confused by prosecutor with regards to charges and negotiation.

Scott Terry is incredible!! I had a DUI charge back in 2003 that we took to trial by jury in which the charge was completely dismissed. We also had a Boating Under The Influence completely dropped by the 2nd court appearance a couple years later. I had a couple other DUI charges after that so I called up Mr. Terry...he also beat those charges. Scott represented me for a gun/marijuana charge in which I walked away from as well. He even answers his cell phone at 1 am on vacation! When you are a client of his you get the privilege to call him when you need him most. Mr. Terry is an attorney you can trust and count on. Scott Terry is a Jedi Lawyer!

I was injured at a Holiday Show, and called Scott, I have known him for years and fully respect him. Scott and his team made everything real easy. They kept track of the stack of bills, and would stay in contact with me, just to see how I was doing with my recovery for nearly two straight years, through surgery and physical therapy. Scott was proactive, great at returning calls, explaining everything, and keeping me informed. He has good people skills, and has respect from the people in his industry . His assistant Kelly was very aggressive with the insurance company that would drag their feet. There were no surprises, or issues. From start to finish the team was professional, incredibly knowledgeable, honest, caring, and fair. All in all I had an amazing experience with Scott, and was very happy with the outcome in my case.

I gave Dana the retainer at the consult. He said that would be enough for my devorce. Initial papers were filled out and given back to him to file and start the divorce through the court. After the phone call to let me know everything was filled and he would follow up with me for the court date, NEVER heard from him again. I called and called sometimes would get the secretary on the phone but a return phone call was never received. I had a 18 month old daughter and was just getting started with my first house and a suburban my husband left me to deal with everything.

This attorney is not worth the money. He represented me at one point and gave me advice in which created a very bad issue for me in the future. He does not follow court rules and it has been found that in some cases court records come up missing due to the nature. My case with DeJean was over 20 years ago.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
