As we aged, we realized that our Will needed some updating & Michael McGreevy was everything one could want for the situation. He made & explained the appropriate & needed changes so that when the time of our 'transition' comes, our family will have all of our wishes in order. He listened ... was kind & it was an overall pleasant experience.

Zach was a very calming influence and persistent advocate for my personal injury case due to an auto accident. He was very thorough, detail oriented, and was able to provide a very accurate estimate of my settlement's timeline. It is especially worth noting how much help his paralegal, Nicole Roberson, provided with our medical claims issues. Zach and Nicole provided much needed help with the confusing (and sordid) world of auto accident claims, medical claims, and our health care insurance billing. Zach and Nicole were very responsive to my questions and concerns throughout the settlement process and I was very happy with the final settlement amount. Zach is a consummate professional who I would highly recommend.

In a recent legal situation, I turned to Zach for assistance. He was to-the-point, persistent, and took care of the situation in good time. His no-nonsense approach, I feel, can always come in handy when time is of the essence, plain facts are necessary, and insight to a legal problem is needed. I have also used Zach's services in handling my Will. He is very efficient, precise, and professional. I feel that I can always "go to" Zach for legal assistance.

Ms. Weecks is an excellent attorney. She recently helped me on two issues in which myself and my wife were wrongly accused. She was very timely and kept us in the loop constantly as to what was going on with our case. Because of her we avoided court altogether! I definitely recommend her over any big name law firm in Arizona. Thanks again for all that you do!

If I were to ever again find myself in need of an attorney, I would without hesitation call Debra Weecks. I was fortunate enough to be referred to her from one of the local agencies dealing with the elderly. My situation was difficult, in that it involved a parent with dementia, a restraining order and, ultimately, court action. Ms. Weecks is direct and honest (while maintaining a sense of humor)! She will tell you what the probabilities and possibilities of your actions are and help you make a good decision. During this process, she worked with both my financial and tax consultants, both of whom were very impressed with her knowledge. I would and have recommended her services to anyone in need of an excellent attorney.

Mrs. Miller did a will and trust revision for me. She did an incredible job for me. We had a pre-conference and after she had done the trust, will, and living will for me we had a post-conference. Everything I had requested was included and she made some very important suggestions to me that were included as well. I would recommend her highly.

In August 2022, I retained Andrew Gorman for an estate matter. Shortly after, he became disinterested and unresponsive. It became increasingly difficult to schedule meetings with him; and meetings that were scheduled, were often missed or postponed. During the meetings that were actually held, I found myself routinely having to cover ground with him that was previously discussed, causing unnecessary delays and expense to me. Andrew also routinely missed deadlines that he set for himself to complete on my behalf. By December, Andrew was unresponsive for four weeks after missing another deadline, at which point I decided to terminate his representation of me. In doing so, I asked for a final accounting of charges against my retainer. In seeking a final accounting Andrew provided me with two different billing amounts against a substantial retainer that I had posted. This dispute over billing required intervention by the Arizona Bar Association and took approximately 8 months to resolve. I felt that Andrew’s representation of me was extremely inefficient due to the fact that I found myself repeatedly having to reschedule meetings that he missed; remind him of the basic details of my case; and enduring needless delays stemming from a lack of follow through on his part to do what he said he would do. My overall experience with Andrew was poor at best.

I have used Rita going on 20 years now. I refer many of my clients from my business to her, as well as she has handled several real estate transactions, 2 estate matters and she has completed wills for me and my wife and other family members. I have never had any bad feedback from clients I have referred to her. I feel she has been very fair in what I have been charged, in each legal matter she has handled for us. I all ways tell anyone who uses any attorney that it will cost more than you think it will, and if you write your question or keywords to jog your memory, and stay on task you will reduce the time you are billed for. As I learned a long time ago, lawyers are not cheap and if you waste their time in their eyes, they will bill you for that time. I will say again Rita has all ways been fair in her billing. I have learned that dealing with attorneys in the legal arena, is that the outcome is never like you see on TV, and the expectation by the average person is too high. The results I have seen with Rita have all ways been better than I expected. Rita has gone the extra mile literally, by meeting one of my clients I referred to Rita at the clients home, as she was dying, could not leave and needed a will done immediately. Rita has also met me at the clients home to finalize a real estate transaction on a Sunday. What attorney does that???

Good afternoon all, I highly discourage anyone from retaining services from Rita or any of her affiliates. It's a kangaroo court set up for each of the local lawyers to line one another(s) pocket(s). I donated $3,000 and received little to no counsel. Her staff isn't punctual, inefficient, and unprofessional. Please stay as far away from this firm as possible at any and all cost. In addition to that, I'm still waiting on a returned phone call from approximately two weeks ago that has yet to be returned. Once again, stay away from this place. Kindest regards, A customer who was taken to the cleaners

I hired Ms. Daninger to help me get guardianship of my partner of 7 years, Mike, after his brain injury. I was already Mike's POA and MPOA. His father, who wanted to pull the plug on Mike, was opposing me for guardianship. Not only did Rita not stick up for me or for Mike, she let the father's attorney walk all over me both in and out of court. I had to raise my hand to talk to the judge while Rita sat there silent in court, and I had to hire a second attorney to help me. This was all while I had to get an order of protection against the father to protect me and Mike from him which I made Rita well aware of. Mikey and I are both here and doing well, no thanks to Ms. Daninger.

Mr Cooley represented the Trustees in my Father' s family Trust. He had little regard for the concerns of the Beneficiaries and was unresponsive to requests for Information and explanations. He did not do a very good job in explaining to the Trustees the importance of keeping good records and actually denied me access to accounting records when requested. He seems to be semi retired which may explain why he is not very responsive.

I hired Mr. Larson for a prenuptial contract. I requested that he make it as simple and inexpensive as possible. He had me pay a $1500 retainer, saying that he anticipated it costing far less. He did not use our face to face time to ascertain what I wanted included. The first document had three inappropriate, unwanted inclusions, which he readily agreed to remove. The charge for editing the document was considerable and inappropriate. In addition, we were told that we could save money if we allowed him to write a single prenuptial, with my fiance’s attorney merely reviewing it. We agreed, again requesting simplicity. The final charge of $2375 for a very simple, straightforward prenuptial, with mostly boilerplate language, took me by surprise. After paying the additional fee, I discussed it with my fiancé. We wrote and hand delivered a detailed letter regarding exactly how we felt we had been overcharged. We never heard from Mr. Larson. I even stopped by the office to request to speak with him, but again never heard anything.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
