While Malheur county DHS in Ontario OR. persisted to file bogus claim after claim against my husband and myself. I mean over 10 claims. The Law firm of Brian Zanotalli was able to disarm all these lies and fake people that DHS created while trying to destroy my family after we gave DHS 21 years of service. Mr Zanotalli was able to prove our innocence and DHS Lies. Thank you Brian Zanotalli

Brian Zanotelli was very knowledgeable about my case. He was compassionate and really listened to what I told him, and believed me. He also has a strong desire to improve the justice system, and will very willingly call their bluff when he feels a prosecutor has gone too far. He let me know which charges I could admit to without it harming me, yet also helped me get the prosecutor and DHS to admit that most of the charges were unreasonable. Overall, very impressed and would definitely hire him again! Thank you!

Brendon is good at handling that ex from the dark side. He was able to keep the cost down while efficiently representing me in my custody case. He is extreamly trustworthy. Although he was a bit busy with a constant case load he did get the job done. He is not concerned with money alone he is a man truly fighting for justice to be done.

This lawyer took my family for 1,000.00,s he did no research, no investigating, no calls, no emails left us in the dark till day of court explaining he's doing nothing might as well plead guilty. Had to fire him not a cent refund, get a court extention and a court appt attorney who actually did the work and helped like a good lawyer does. This lawyer is a legal money theif and it's all he cares about h'ell take everything you have and not help you at all. Save yourself from this traumatic experience and get any other lawer.

If this is the same Marcus Oatman that acted as public defender and represented my son James, I must say that I was very disappointed by the lack of defense he actually presented. Never would I have thought that innocent people would be thrown under the bus to further someone's political career. His presence in the courtroom was a joke. He never made objections or cross examined any witnesses. I will never recommend this man for anything.

This attorney got my criminal case thrown out in two days. He was on top of it and had the connections with the District Attorney's Office to move my case along quickly, I would recommend Mike 10 out of 10 times!

I hired Mike Mahoney as a divorce attorney in 2016. I spent over $8000.00. The first few trips to see him were to bring more paperwork into him because he could not tell me everything he needed the first couple of times, each time he wanted more. I think I spent most of the retainer on him in the first 4 visits. He can not seem to remember anything I told him, even though he took notes. Each visit he would tell me that he "does not recall me telling him". It almost felt like we got nowhere because I had to keep telling him the same thing over and over again during each visit. Over half of the appointments that I made with him had to be rescheduled by him, most of the time for personal reasons, such as hunting, family, etc. He would forward email's from my ex's attorney to me, which I did appreciate that, however, he didn't read them first half of the time, so when I replied to him he did not know what I was talking about. When I wanted him to send a reply to that attorney I would have to tell him a few times before he did it. His office staff seemed to have never been able to get anything to me but the invoices for him. Many times I was told that they mailed me a discovery or some items, yet I never received it. I asked them to start emailing me but it took a few times of me asking before I received it. Very unprofessional. I feel that Mike is just too busy to be an attorney. He can not focus on one thing and does not retain information when given to him. During a arbitration he asked me at the end of his questioning if there was anything else that he thought I should ask. I could not believe an attorney that has been in this profession as long as he has been would actually have to ask his client if there is anything else he should ask. The arbitration was appealed by my ex and I found another attorney who did a much better and was much more professional job. He seemed to have cared about my case, unlike Mike.

Worst Laywer under God's green creation. Doesn't actually care about you or your trial only cares about getting more known as an attorney and winning court cases even when they are doomed to fail. He is also very manipulative and will try to convince you things to "help" your court case reguardless if you need the help or not. If you get this lawyer. Run away

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
