Bruce did an amazing job working to get the most out of my settlement. He spent countless hours working on my case and always made me feel like I was in capable hands. He answered my questions as fast as possible. And never gave in to opposing counsel. He is an amazing person and lawyer and I won’t hesitate to use him in the future!

I have worked with many lawyers throughout my days and Mary Morris has been the most personal and knowledgable lawyer that I have ever seen. It was a pleasure working with her and would recommend her to any client looking for a lawyer that knows what they are doing.

Mary Morris has done more for me in ten minutes than the attorney that i hired and payed for "who by the way showed up late S.B." did for me in the six months that he had to prepare for my case . wish i could have invested my money with her in the first place .

Anne is the best there is on Maui. She works hard to get you what you need and FAST! My daughter was held from me, but Anne had her in my arms within one day. She notes only factual information, that the Judge appreciates. I highly recommend her as a single father. You wont be disappointed, and she is worth every dollar.

I would never recommend anyone to use this firm. Blackwell is very unprofessional, does not provide adequate answers to questions. He seems to only care about the money and is condescending to his clients.

Jaime was hired to represent a cordial friend. She was pleasant, professional & seemed to be interested in defending her client (chosen & paid for to act as a Public Defender - in this case, due to conflict of interest in PD office representing clients in same county). She even agreed in writing, to act as a witness (for her incarcerated client) because she could see the FACT he had not been represented at all, or very, very poorly previously. She flipped 180 shortly there after !! Into a hostile, do/did nothing, withdrawal from client. She attempted to get files & all legally needed from the prosecutors. She got nowhere. Hence, why she, in writing agreed to not only be defendants counsel, but witness;testify to the extreme lack of any fair good counsel for defendant. I am a witness to one of the cases. spoke with Jaime 3-4 times. She got my number from client, reached out to me. I wasn’t avail, i called her back twice, but she wasn’t in office. She called me back, we spoke for quite some time (approx. 40+ minutes). She said feel free to call anytime, if I had any questions, told me she would be letting me know when I was needed for witness statements. Time went on, and I got updates via her client. she called me to update me once, few things, plus ask me a few other questions. I called few weeks later, left a message for her. She called me couple of days later, we had quick conversation for 5-10 mins. Then 2-3 wks later, client hasn’t heard from her, he asked me To reach out to her about case/ bail. Left a message for her;with same gentleman that answered previously. Nothing more than a normal , polite message. Didn’t hear anything back for few days. Called, left msg. with same gentleman. Normal, professional. I know they get busy. Nothing for week . I called once more. This time getting a very kind lady. I didn't state Jaime hasn’t called me back. I wasn’t upset, annoyed or bothered. I told nice lady that a sheriff (or some officer?) had called me, saying defendant put me & my address down as a “place to go” when released on bail. I asked lady to please let Jaime know I wasnt nor would be that for defendant. I was not, nor have reason to be upset towards Jaime. While speaking with lady, a pleasant conversation, she said Jaime was at. PAbar conference of some type. Would be gone a for a week. Week half went by, heard nothing. Looked up docket sheets-WOW Jaime had (weeks before) filed for removal from his cases. I was confused. I finally reached her couple weeks later. she was a complete different person. Short, curt, ugly, very rude to me. Said she wouldn’t talk to me again. I was like “ok???” Didnt have any idea why or what happened. Then in court (which she didn’t show up for, or call, go see her client again), she decided outright LIE under oath, to Judge. Started saying I (me????!!! Huh? what? I was shocked!!) had called her to point of harassment (????), I had been rude & nasty (????), just all negative LIES! I truly COULD NOT BELIEVE this! Using me as some reason to withdraw from her client? With completely made up LIES! I have NOTHING at risk in cases, NEVER anything but normal, pleasant, professional conversation. She wanted out, because she was too lazy to drive to next county over, out gunned/lawyered by DA, such a coward she LIED to get outve it. She did NOTHING she was hired to do, did not let client know she was withdrawing, A WEEK BEFORE TRIAL date!!!! Never let client know anything at all!! , just BAM! Became the most lazy, lying, delaying, sharing zero info or discovery in any way w/client desperately needed/requested since the day arrested. All others PUBdef’s just did nothing. She did nothing AND LIED to excuse HER INCOMPETENCE! Just lie & blame an innocent, good manners, citizen/witness, well intentioned, disabled lady-with lies! She was BUTThurt for researching her online when hired? Who wouldn’t? We had one question. Then NO issue with her! Run far away from her

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
