We had a dispute with our school district, which was not providing our child with the free appropriate public education to which they are entitled. Lily was deeply knowledgeable, listened to our concerns, created a detailed plan, communicated clearly with us throughout the process, and carried on through all obstacles to a successful conclusion. She was an excellent advocate for our child and our family. We recommend her highly.

Lily has worked with us regarding our son’s academic needs in the early 2000s and our grandson’s (adopted son) education needs for the past 6 years. All we can say is “Thank God for Liliana Yazno-Bartle!” She has been extremely successful working with us and the district in getting the services our children needed to meet their academic needs and be successful in school. Lily is a great person and easy to work with. She is understanding, empathic and able to work with very (at times) stressed-out parents. We always got the sense Lily truly understood what we were going through with our children and in dealing with the district. Lily was always there for us, and nothing seemed to frazzle her like things did us! Lily knows the law. She knows the process to use to get what your child needs, and she knows the districts and their attorneys (always a plus). If you want an attorney who will make things better for your child, you couldn’t find anyone better.

James Egbert has been my attorney since 2004 when I retained him to represent me in a lawsuit against an Atlantic City casino for negligence resulting in personal injury, which we won. He was concerned, compassionate, and his clear guidance through the case tempered my anger and resulting stubbornness. He, also, counselled me through a tax problem with the Federal government resulting from my own procrastination, and did so, expediently, kindly and without reproof. Although my legal matters are generally routine, Mr. Egbert has not treated them with any less attention than the two matters cited. As a senior citizen, Mr. Egbert has my trust because, though I am a senior citizen, he is not condescending because of my age and is respectful of my capabilities.

Jim is one of the most empathetic attorneys I have ever met. He understands the needs of his clients and, most importantly, he follows through on his promises. Jim has guided me through the insane maze of elder care law for a family member. I honestly could not have done it without Jim's guidance, compassion and tenacity!

Mr. Bill McElroy is a down to earth attorney who takes all the time needed to make sure his clients are well informed and comfortable. Bill is not only an extremely talented attorney, however, his knowledge stretches far beyond the law. He saved my son not only in the court room but he researched my sons education and background and made sure he would be able to continue a pursuit toward his career goals. My family and I were worried about the daunting future my son was facing. Mr. McElroy explored every option and every aspect of the law and the Constitution in the preparation of my son's defense. The police, the district attorney's office and judges were all aware of Mr. McElroy's character and credibility. His knowledge of the law and its application is remarkable and is apparent to those he works with in and out of the court room. Bill was recommended to us by Bucks county Attorney, Robert Mancini. We are grateful to Bill McElroy and I am proud to have the opportunity to recommend this excellent attorney and modest man. Thank you Bill, and God Bless you and your family.

Our practice was assisted by Oberman, Yazno-Bartle group with a corporate merger with a large dental company. Josh Bishop took care of us like we were family. He made the whole process very straightforward and painless. Highly recommend his services.

Leona took us through a very important process in navigating education law, something we were entirely unprepared . We had been through multiple schools and multiple rounds of attempts to make things work, and Leona actually had the correct answers for us to get to the appropriate education for our child.

I cannot thank Leona Goldshaw enough for helping my son and me through the most difficult time in our lives. My son was severely misunderstood in his public elementary school. He was restrained multiple times, suspended twice and isolated for more than one month. All of that caused physical, emotional and mental suffering. He started to have tics, frequent stomach aches and night terrors. He was refusing to go to school as he was miserable there to the point that he decided to change his name “to be a different person so people/kids do not know him and play with him.” Leona went above and beyond to advocate for my son, to find an appropriate placement for him and to get funds from the district. My son is back to being a happy child again and loves to go to his new private school. In addition, Leona provided me with fantastic support when I was stressed, exhausted and depressed and did not know where to go and what to do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Absolutely despicable and abhorrent treatment by Adam DeJohn. We waited over a week for a call back and he didn’t even bother to look at the contract in question before telling us that he couldn’t help us. We paid (through our employer) for a sham of a consult. Learn from us and don’t waste your time!

She was recommended and talked a good game as soon as I paid her , she took weeks to return my calls or my emails. What made it even worse is how her entire attitude and tone changed towards me. I should have just gave her 800.00 dollars because she never did anything and blame me or Some other reason why NOTHING was getting done ….until I just never heard back from her again.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
