The reason I chose Tim Lowry is he is a expert lawyer and professor, I was getting no where with the VA and was at the end of my rope. I have read all the reviews and I agree 100% Tim is a miracle worker , I have never met a man who is more dedicated helping American disabled veterans! Get the fair compensation they both earned and deserve ! Tim got my appeal overturned ! I just cannot find the words to express how great full I am . You are one lucky man or woman to have Lowry Veterans law firm on your side. Christopher Bower

Tim Franklin is absolutely the best VA disability attorney ever. I had tried for 8 years to get my case thru and tried other sources to no avail. Tim got my disability finished in a matter of 3 months. He is a wonderful man and the best attorney.

Been dealing with the VA since 2000. Three other law firms could not help me, but Tim said he could. He worked hard and fought hard for me and didn't let the VA push him around. He was very professional and very knowledgeable about the law for veterans. I was able to speak to him personally when needed. I received everything I deserved and he is still fighting for me. I highly recommend Tim as your attorney to battle for you and your family.

I was in a not-at-fault auto accident in Colorado Springs, where I was rear-ended, and my car was totaled. After speaking with Mr. Clawson, I retained him as my attorney. Mr. Clawson and his team were courteous and professional and provided exceptional representation. I received a settlement more significant than I could have imagined. I highly recommend the Clawson Team for any bodily injury accident claim! The free initial consultation was also helpful! Thank you.

I highly recommend Clawson & Clawson! Mr. Clawson and the whole team were so helpful, understanding, and knew exactly how to get things done as related to my automobile accident. My medical bills added up quickly, and I never thought they would all be covered, let alone get money for me. I was amazed at the outcome. I received the best medical treatment, and my  expenses were covered.   I received more than I ever hoped to cover future needs. Thank you, Mr. Clawson!

Mr. Travis and his paralegal Dauna were wonderful in representing me in my divorce and child custody case. They were both very knowledgeable about laws, and detail oriented in preparing my case. I was extremely impressed with their explanations of all of my questions. Mr. Travis spent time talking with me about a situation that could have potentially gone negative on me with my kids, and helped me form a positive plan to present in my hearing. The outcome for me and my children could not have gone better. Their firm was also cost cautious. I will definitely hire Travis Law if I ever need legal representation in the future.

I was forced into a frivolous law suit in which the plaintiff was gunning for punitive damages, when it was a simple contract dispute. David and his team presented my case with high competence, they were quick to grasp the facts, and agile at court proceeding. His court room demeanors were professional , courteous, yet effective and powerful. His presentation was concise and punchy! If you must go to trial, he is the best trial lawyer in Colorado Springs.

David and I worked together on a case for the past 5 years. He worked tirelessly on the case, despite knowing if it would work out in the end. He gave up a lot of personal time just to see the case through. In the end, we were successful and the best outcome was reached. I never felt left in the dark and always felt if I needed something that I could call without hesitation. It is great to feel that I have an attorney who is not only knowledgeable and skilled, but cares about his clients and their wellbeing.

Ms. McClintock provided very competent service to me. From the start of my case I felt like she genuinely was concerned and took a real interest in helping me. I never felt like I was just a client or number, but an individual that she wanted to help. She continually kept me informed and when court was going to happen she did her best to prepare me for what exactly would happen and the possible outcomes of the case. When my court date arrived there were no real surprises. She was completely prepared for anything the Prosecution presented. In the end she fought for me all the way and the final result was “Acquittal”. I couldn’t of been more happy with the outcome and service. If you need a competent and reliable lawyer Ms. McClintock is one of the best and one I would use again if necessary for myself or family. Fees were very fair and reasonable. So I will definitely recommend her to anyone. I can’t thank her enough for the service she provided.

The only law group that I have ever been fully satisfied with. Being innocent helped, but I definitely needed a superior lawyer who knew what they were doing, and I surely got that in Casey Kane. Casey connected me with a polygrapher and a forensics specialist, both of whom were of immense assistance in my case. Casey formerly worked on the prosecution side of the law, so his inside knowledge of the workings of the prosecutor's office is an invaluable asset. Casey is a straightforward, no-nonsense attorney who will tell you what you need to know, not what you want to hear. Casey is easygoing and open to talking to as a client, but when it comes to court appearances, he wastes no time and will ensure your case is heard as soon as possible. Chris was also an outstanding attorney who was very friendly and easy to talk to. The office assistants were also outstanding. Aaron always made sure that I knew when I had a court date and what I needed to do. If I ever had a question, I knew that I could get hold of Aaron right away, and he would get me the answer as quickly as possible. Hopefully, you will never need an attorney, but if you do, I cannot recommend this law group enough.

I was not sure what to expect. I didn’t know if their purposed consultation time would enough time. All my notes were taken by an assistant and given to the legal councilor before our conversation so the lawyer was already up to speed when we talked for the first time. I really think their system is refined by their experience and it shows that it’s designed to best help those seeking advice. Sidney was so kind. Very great at explaining and educating me of my rights and what I can expect in various outcomes. So I may plan my next move with thought and strategy. I would definitely seek advice from Sidney again. She is very easy to talk to. Very knowledgeable of the laws and wonderful resources to offer for more information or questions. Thanks Sidney!

We are very grateful for Todd and his help during our difficult time. No one hopes or expects to pull the pin on the bankruptcy grenade, but sometimes it may be the only way to find your way through the morass of bills and debt. Todd and his team provided a straightforward path and made sure we understood the process, every step of the way. While filing bankruptcy can feel shaming, we looked at is as the chance to start again; that's why it's called the "fresh start" law. If you need to go this route, Todd is the guy you want on your team.

This is the main reason I hire her, after 6 months of giving her my case, I was told by one of the lawyers that is suppostly working in my case, Shana Velez to be exact, that I had to "speak to the other party to get to an agreement"??? . I am still shocked by this since I have already spent thousands of dollar suopostly to resolve the disagreement with the other party but nothing has been done. Moreover, I had a hearing on the 4th of December, they extended it to February 2025 because according to them I have to meet with the other party to come to an agreement before the court and are now sending us to mediation, why didn't they explained from the beflgininh this was going to be the case? I could had gone straight to mediation instead of spending money that I am having to borrow, to pay for their exesive and extremely expensive fees, especially when they provide such a poor service. In addition to this, I was never told that the whole buffet of Lawyers where going to take a piece of cake of the money I put in their trust account. They email, message and phone eachother eachother and charge for each of the persons that were involved in the conversations. It's so depressing seen the statement of the bills they are sending me, I work so hard assabling and packing earning $18.00 per hour and the lawyer charged me $680.00 dollar for 50 minutes on a meeting where I was just answering questions. They have no compassion for people, it's disgusting how these lawyers want to leave you backrupt and cannot careless. They do not even do their jobs, or explain to their clients about the process, do not provide updates, nor are clear/honest about their fees. I have not received a single call from Shana to explain the possibility of winning the case, or to tell me how the case of going but for every finger or thong they move, they charge minnimun of 190 dollars. She had never giving me advise or invite me to the meeting they have to discuss my case, so I have no updates on the progress. They asked me to sign a contract on a link that I have no access now and when I requested a copy of my the contract and complained over the phone, they stop contact, I have asked for a call back and no one has returned my calls for the last two weeks. For the money I have already paid I should have at least seen some progress, but there in non, the court has been moved twice, and the more they do it the more it cost me. I want clear explanation as to what has been done that is worth over 20, 000 dollar and a copy of my contract without additional charges as this should be included in the initial fee and or is my right to have a copy of this contract, I want to know the exact fees that will be charged going forward, full disclosure of how much more is going to cost me so I can make a decision on whether I want or can continue using their services. Lastly I also want reimbursement of fees I believe I have been overcharged for.

Dealing with too many things. Needed human compassion and direction. Spoke to Hannah and Robert Harper this morning. Hannah was sweet, actively listened and took such clear and concise notes that I had no need to reiterate them once Robert called. I was greeted with kindness, passion and received guidance, answers and knowledge of my next steps. Not to mention he sounds like a pretty cool guy. :)

Wife called them for help with SS. The woman that talked to her told her there wasn't enough time to prepare a case then just hung up. Didn't let my wife ask any questions, no suggestions, just hung up. Needless to say, not impressed.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
