Price McNamara and his team were successful at getting my long-term disability benefits, reinstated after they were abruptly stopped. Getting diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness was terribly traumatic and left me unable to work. After receiving benefits for two years, my long-term disability company claimed I was no longer eligible for benefits. This was a low point for me. I didn’t feel comfortable fighting this by myself and I was referred to Mr. Price by another attorney. Mr. Price and his wonderful team kept me informed every step of the way. They answered every question I had and communication was prompt and accurate. I cannot recommend Mr. Price and his team enough If you need assistance with employer paid disability policies. Tim

She was very honest about my case from the start. She stayed truthful throughout the whole process and was always available when I had questions. Offered payment plans during very crucial times and they were very affordable. Her assistants is very kind and always went out of her way to explain everything throughly and make sure we got copies of every single document we could ever need.

I highly recommend Amber L Cain for family law matters. Before choosing a lawyer, I had several consultations and I felt that she was the most genuine and sincere. Her pricing is extremely fair as well. She gave several referrals for other services when needed. She responded to my emails and calls in a timely fashion and when my matter was resolved I received the rest of my retainer without any issues! Definitely glad I choose to work with her!

Ms. Cain is a responsive, knowledgable and stalwart attorney. I retained her for a high-conflict custody case that would end up taking 18 months and the involvement of child development specialists to navigate; she was with me every step of the way, effectively moving the ball forward. Against the backdrop of heightened stress, her ability to manage client expectations and engage both parties with practical solutions and a cool head was remarkable. Ms. Cain has an exceptional instinct for when and how to be strategically flexible, versus when to draw "red lines". My family, children and the coparenting relationship with my former spouse would not be in the positive place it is today without her support and expertise.

I'm the CEO of a California Corporation and I needed a local Louisiana attorney to represent us for the domestication of a foreign judgment from a California Court and then assist with any further litigation in the Louisiana jurisdiction. After talking to the Louisiana State Bar, who recommended two attorneys who specialized in what I needed, I did a little further vetting and settled on attorney Imtiaz Siddiqui, which turned out to be a wise choice. Mr. Siddiqui was thorough in explaining how we should proceed under Louisiana State Law. First, Mr. Siddiqui handled the domestication of the foreign judgment quickly and efficiently, resulting in a lien in our favor recorded on the judgment debtor's real property. There was a quiet period while our lien accrued interest pursuant to Louisiana law. After several months, the judgement debtor's counsel filed a motion to modify our lien so that he could sell the property without paying us. Mr. Siddiqi crafted a convincing opposition that ultimately brought the judgment debtor to the settlement table, where Mr. Siddiqui was able to negotiate a six-figure settlement that worked for everyone. I have already told Mr. Siddiqui that we will use him again in the future when the need arises. Happy to recommend him as a business lawyer.

I met Mr. Siddiqui in January 2020 and we worked together over the next 20 months on two separate litigations. One litigation was for an unpaid wage dispute and the other a tort interference claim. When I started searching for legal representation I had no idea what to look for. All I can say is I was very lucky to connect with him and choose him to represent me. He is very organized and has a calming and confident demeanor. His knowledge of the courts and laws made navigating the complex processes of civil litigation straightforward. The process was very stressful and frustrating, but with his guidance and wisdom we settled both matters successfully. I would highly recommend Mr. Siddiqui to any individual looking for counsel in his field.

Imtiaz Siddiqui represented me in a civil lawsuit from 2018-2020. I hired him a year and a half into a complex business dispute, and he immediately worked through a holiday weekend to prepare a motion on a tight timeline. Over the next two years, Mr. Siddiqui demonstrated the breadth of his legal knowledge and expertise in both the trial court and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. His attention to detail and creative problem solving brought new ideas to the table and turned the case around in my favor. He presented all of my options and explained legal processes clearly every step of the way. He is professional, responsive, and his independent practice allows him to keep his fees reasonable, which demonstrates that he has compassion for people and strives to make the legal process accessible. I highly recommend Mr. Siddiqui to anyone looking for a smart, passionate, and talented attorney.

I live in a town called Plaquemine LA. A very corrupt town. A town where every black man is guilty in the eyes of the judicial system. A system that is ran by certain families, and a whole lot of unfairness and corruption and injustice. My nephew was arrested on a murder charge here in Plaquemine. He told his mother that he wanted John Fuller & Associates to represent him on this charge. His, mother went and retained John Fuller as his attorney. Living in a town such as Plaquemine, and knowing how corrupted the system and town is. John Fuller came to Plaquemine and he represented my nephew. He let my nephew decide his faith. When I say my Family are forever grateful and Thankful to the Fuller Law Firm. It gave me great pleasure to hear, officials in Plaquemine saying Fuller is the best. Thank you John Fuller and Devin Jones

After hearing about the CLJA in 2023, I realized that I was one of those veterans stationed at Camp Lejeune doing the time period mentioned. I have suffered from several illnesses associated with the contamination. After searching out a law firm to handle my claim, I decided to go with Timothy Young Law Firm. The firm has been very helpful by keep me informed of what’s going on with my claim. I feel that they got my back by trying to get me the best result when the Navy decided to settled my claim. I would recommend Timothy Young Law Firm to anyone looking for great legal representation. Boris Simpson

I am the general counsel of an energy firm in New Orleans and have worked with numerous outside labor and employment counsel in the area. None are better than Scott. He is responsive, exceptionally smart, and consistently comes up with solid strategies to deal with difficult situations. On top of that, he is a genuinely good and funny guy and I have yet to review one of his bills where I thought I wasn't getting excellent value for what I was paying. Scott gets my highest recommendation.

Truly felt at peace entrusting my case to him as he was so knowledgeable and determined. He fought for me every step of the way and I'm very pleased with the results, and in such a timely manner too! He and his paralegal, Ashley, kept me up to date with frequent phone calls, text messages and emails. Both of them took the time to listen to my questions and concerns, explain all the legalities and provide reassurance. I 100% recommend Alex and his firm. Very greatful.

I have used Elizabeth several times to help me with a few legal issues. She successfully negotiated several contracts with my bisiness. She represented me on a minor domestic matter. She also helped me with some traffic problems. I appreciate that I can always call her for advice or a question. If she cant talk to me right away then scheduling a time to talk is always easy. I respect her dedication and hard work. She is not shy when it comes to fighting hard for a client. If you want a lawyer who will communicate with you and explain everything in clear terms, then I recommend you call her law firm.

Working with Elizabeth Carpenter and her law firm has truly saved my life, which in the past was entirely unmanageable. In 2020 while I was in active addiction I made the grave mistake of falling into the wrong crowd of people that unfortunately involved me in a high profile case in Jefferson Parish. By some miracle she and her law firm were able to help me retain most of my freedoms and continued to fight for me through the process of probation and ensuring that I got the help I needed to achieve a sober life. She still continues today to help me in the fight to rebuild my life one step at a time. Today I am a free man thanks to Elizabeth!

This is long and i apologize, but this needs to be seen. I received a ordinance violation ticket last year and hired Elizabeth after an issue with our previous attorney. She said she would do some research and let us know our options. She never contacted us back, so unless we called her there was no communication. Everytime we asked what was going on, she had nothing. WE did the research, WE did all the footwork. When my trial came she was still not prepared. The DA questioned the officer involved and he had no clue who I was and then assumed I was actually someone else. When Elizabeth went to question him she did not ask any questions regarding what the officer said and bumbled through the entire questioning. Ultimately I was found guilty for a charge that I never did. My husband in his frustration through this ( his review is here as well anthony beck) contacted her several times regarding the fact she never did any research, or contacted us, she would get short and overly defensive with him. He did tell her flat out that during this time she did nothing which is the truth. In court she told me he was a "scary, horrible abusive man" and she "feels sorry for me". She responded to his review with half truths and messaged me demanding he remove his review, again saying that she feels sorry for me living with "such a horrible abusive man" which he is definitely not.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
