Brian is absolutely the best for workers compensation knowledge, skilled litigation and excellent guidance throughout the process. A few months after a high tech workplace injury, I hired the firm because my workers compensation was not approved. Brian persisted over 5 years though hearing, appeal and ultimately winning my case. At times I was ready to give up; but huge thanks to Brian’s persistence and his teams excellent responsive support, I made it to the end of a complex process with a successful outcome. I highly recommend Brian and his firm and give Brian a strong endorsement."

Purely professional and went the extra mile for 2 years on my claim/case. Brian is a upstanding, by the book, honest and hard working lawyer. His legal team is above all the in my experience and Causey Wright is hands down number one in my opinion. He got me a great settlement after many setbacks. I highly recommend Brian and his team. Thank you so much.

Mr. Yu had my case given to him unexpectedly when my lawyer was in court on the day of my mediation. My divorce had been messy and complicated, but Mr. Yu came to mediation well prepared and with a firm grasp of all the details. I was very pleased with the personal interest shown in me and my child, and I was very confident with him as my representative. He helped me determine how to best protect my child, and we had a very successful mediation. He continues to answer my questions in a timely and professional manner. I highly recommend Mr. Yu and Ashby Law for any family law case!

Mindy helped me navigate a difficult, draining, high-conflict divorce. She is incredibly smart and knowledgeable about the legal process and also a truly good person who has cared about me as a client. She will tell it to you straight, and she always has had my best interests in mind. She has a reasonable, calm approach to matters but is also very capable and skilled at handling the conflict and combat. Mindy has taught me a lot about standing up for myself throughout this process, and I am grateful for her counsel, fierce advocacy, and support.

It’s difficult to fully express my gratitude for Mindy and words could never encompass this achievement. My motion was exceptionally challenging—a monumental undertaking with the odds heavily stacked against me. It was highly unlikely that the court would grant my motion, as it’s rare for a final order to be overturned. I had spent months consulting with numerous law firms, but no one was willing to take me on as a client. Despite knowing I had a strong argument with facts to back it up, I struggled to find help. From the moment I had my first consultation with Mindy, I knew she was the one who could help me. She is not only incredibly compassionate but also genuinely cares about her clients and she is a fierce advocate. Mindy’s knowledge of the law is unparalleled, and she is a brilliant lawyer. She doesn’t resort to underhanded tactics but instead focuses on the facts and how they relate to the law. She strives for a more kind approach, however I wouldn’t mess with her in the courtroom she’s tough and cannot be pushed around. Mindy took the time to listen to my story, which was difficult to tell and even more difficult to hear. She kept me on track when I became overwhelmed, guiding me back and asking all the right questions. Mindy believed in my story and was determined to help, no matter how complex or time-consuming the process became. Thanks to Mindy’s dedication and expertise, the court granted my motion—a victory that seemed nearly impossible at the outset. I know for a fact that without Mindy, this win would not have been possible. This was overwhelmingly emotional for me and took a tremendous amount of time and effort to gather all the necessary information, and through it all, Mindy was patient, kind, and unwavering in her commitment to helping me obtain justice.

Mindy is incredible. I'm writing this with my healthy baby sleeping peacefully beside me--an outcome I didn't think possible for much of the past year. I initially hired Mindy Carr to help write a co-parenting plan. I knew my former partner could be difficult to work with, but I had no idea what was in store. Mindy noticed red flags in my co-parent's behavior from the start and helped me prepare for the high-conflict separation that was coming. She predicted how the process would likely unfold given her prior experience, and she was spot on. It wasn't how I hoped things would go, but I was incredibly grateful to be working with an attorney who had seen similar behavior before and knew how to constructively handle it. So, when my co-parent suddenly changed lawyers and filed a surprise motion for near-exclusive custody of our baby, Mindy was able to quickly assemble an effective response. Her arguments at the hearing convinced the commissioner to adopt a balanced temporary parenting plan instead, and gave me and my co-parent more time to continue discussing a parenting plan via counseling. It took almost a year before our parenting plan was finalized in arbitration. Mindy let me know what was going on and what to expect the entire time--her transparency really helped reduce my anxiety during such an uncertain period. I was particularly impressed with her knowledge of the family court system and the people in it; she clearly has lots of first-hand experience here and it showed in her approach. She was a tireless and trustworthy advocate who kept my child's interests at heart. I believe we ended up with a fair parenting plan that puts our child first and provides time and space for each co-parent to build a healthy relationship with them. It's exactly the outcome I'd hoped we could reach collaboratively when I first hired Mindy; the fact that she was able to make this happen despite the machinations of a very high-conflict co-parent speaks to Mindy's resourcefulness, intelligence, and tenacity. If you're looking for an incredible family law attorney, look no further.

Yasmeen and her friendly and knowledgeable staff dedicated their time in reviewing, understanding and explaining my case as to not let anything slip through then cracks. I have had two previous attorneys for the same case, dealing with a highly contentious opposing party and Yasmeen was able to efficiently and effectively negotiate on my behalf to get me results that were beyond my expectations and truly impressive. Thanks to Yasmeen for all her hard work and expertise, my case was resolved successfully. I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding and professional service that I received. Yasmeen is competent, confident and experienced in handling cases that have many layers and it shows when she is in front of a Judge/Commissioner/Arbitrator. She took the stress and worry from my shoulders and can do the same for you. I would not hesitate to consult with and hire Yasmeen Abdullah.

I went through a HORRIFIC 2+ year long high-conflict divorce from a narcissistic man who verbally and physically abused me in front of our young child. Yasmeen was my 3rd lawyer and I am thankful to God every day that I finally found her. I could tell right away that she is a person of the highest integrity and retains expert knowledge of the legal process. Beyond those stunning traits, emotionally, she was my rock as she guided me through the incredibly traumatic process of extricating myself from my toxic marriage and fighting for custody of my child. My ex and his low-vibrating energy monster of a lawyer did everything in their power to break me: Manipulation, lying, defamation, disregarding court orders, twisting the truth, and hiring "expert" witnesses to try to discredit and demonize me. Yasmeen remained optimistic and unshaken, having full confidence every time I spoke to her that we would win. She encouraged me not to give up, even though I wanted to so badly so many times as this process nearly broke me as a person. But, in the end, Yasmeen came through for me and my child, and we won at trial in a big way. I can't say that I'll ever feel fully vindicated after what my ex put me through, but at least my child has me as the primary parent with full decision making, safe and supported, which makes the whole thing worth it.

Yasmeen, Erin, Sara, Nadine and Robin are amazing. I’ve got the best result possible in my Hague convention case & custody! I’m very happy to have my child back to USA, the process was smooth throughout the whole case using Abdullah’s law firm, they were always on top of everything, very communicative, always there for any question/concern & very transparent. During the court sessions Yasmeen was very confident, accurate & ready for all the judge questions. Yasmeen is very knowledgeable & familiar in the family laws, Hague & civil rights areas. As far as the cost is very decent & reasonable. I’ve had 3-4 consultations done else where until I discovered Yasmeen was the one, i felt she was the most familiar with the law, she was explaining a lot and I had a positive feeling from the beginning. I highly recommend Yasmeen’s office and very thankful for getting everything to my favor more than expected. Lots of support was offered. Happy holidays and keep up the great work guys!!

When it comes to looking for a lawyer who can get you justice, I mean real justice, not just words, there are very few who make the cut for me. And Greg makes that cut. Greg is the tops. He has taken on large companies, the government and shady (and shifty) actors to bring them to their knees. Could not endorse anyone with more enthusiasm. He is not a good or great lawyer - he is among the few pre-eminent lawyers you would be lucky to have on your team.

I worked with Michele on many occasions over the years, and I have great respect for her. She and I were among founders of the Washington Coalition for Open Government, one of NFOIC's many great state affiliates. But when Michele and I first met and had an occasion to collaborate, I was an executive with the Seattle P-I ( Post-Intelligencer) and she was a bright young litigator for the law firm that represented my crosstown rival, The Seattle Times. My respect and admiration for her abilities were strong then, and those perceptions have never waned.

In our experience, we found that Leslie lives up to her promises and philosophies 100% of the time. She is also so compassionate and easy to talk to. Actively listens during the initial consultation and then provides a realistic opinion of the case followed by a robust and specific plan of action. This is what stood out the most to me due to the fact that this is similarly how I operate when working with my clients. Another thing that made securing Leslie for our legal representation is that fact that she's a straight shooter who clearly communicated to my wife and I how her fees would accrue and to whom certain tasks would be delegated to (Paralegal Assistant) in an attempt to keep our costs as low as possible. Looking back on this unfortunate situation, that my wife and I found ourselves in, it still creates an emotions of sadness and unbelief that it had to come down to litigation to be resolved. We have been married for several years. We both had existing children from prior marriages, so we have what would be described as a "blended family." Over the years, my wife and I have maintained a stable home for us and the children but as the youngest of the children became a teenager, my wife was experiencing some debilitating health challenges. Coupled with the fact that we have an active teenager involved in extra curricular activities, undoubtedly our expenses increased and income decreased which in turn created financial challenges. My wife's former employer happened to be friends with Leslie and upon her learning about our situation, she quickly referred us to Leslie and made the introduction. Me being one who reads Google Reviews before making a purchasing or hiring decision, browsed the Olson-Olson webpage and found this quote that really stood out to me, "Our philosophy is pretty simple: we like serving you well. We like making you happy. We do that by listening carefully to what you tell us. We do it by working hard for you. We do it by applying to your case, the wisdom and skill gained from years in and out of the courtroom." Let me tell you that we found that Olson-Olson thoroughly lives us to their philosophy! Here's a snippet from Leslie's bio, "The story of money reveals the truth and can often tip the balance in questions of credibility..." and let me say it again, that just recalling the events that led up to and throughout our legal case revolving around unpaid and overdue child support, almost brings me to tears. Yes, in our case the story of money revealed some ugly truths. My wife's ex husband was order to pay child support all along; dating back several years! Since this order pre-dated me, I wasn't fully aware of the facts, but it had always bothered me that her ex wasn't paying the full amount of child support. I won't go into all the horrendous details as to why this person wasn't paying their fair share of child support, but I will say this... Leslie made it crystal clear that just because a woman remarries, her ex isn't excused from their financial obligations. When confronted with this matter of unpaid and overdue child support, the ex challenged the claim and because of that it was set for arbitration. Throughout that process, Leslie was super organized, thoughtful in how she prepped us to give testimony and masterfully gathered and analyzed financial evidence that ultimately resulted in a very favorable resolution for us. If you're dealing with a Family Law issue and you have questions about who's the best to hire to represent you, I highly recommend Leslie Olson & Olson-Olson, PLLC without hesitation. They have the character, resources and a host of other legal expertise that will get you the desired outcome! Thank you Leslie, Mark & Greg! We appreciate you!

I feel extremely fortunate to have worked with Mark Alexander over the very long haul of my case. I was somehow able to hire the attorney everyone hopes to get but seldom does. Thanks to Mark, I was able to achieve a much better outcome than I ever hoped for. Wanted me to pay $2,000 upfront for a broker scam, so I added him to an email with the broker to analyse if what they were saying was truly a scam or if it wasn’t. He made sure to include in the email that he wasn’t my lawyer (because I hadn’t paid him 2k yet). Why would anyone in the right mind blindly give a lawyer $2,000 without know if they truly have a case or not.

I consulted TBillick Law on a complex copyright licensing issue that intersects with trust & estate law. Several IP attorneys passed on advising me due to the complexity, but Tim had relevant experience in both areas and took the time to figure out the best approach. He even did some background research and made calls before I officially signed up as a client and did not charge me for that! He answered all my questions and carefully explained a complex legal situation. I was fortunate to have found Tim to clarify an otherwise convoluted process.

Dan successfully represented me in dismissing a baseless protection order. He was excellent: He helped me understand and address the situation; thoroughly and efficiently prepared the case, focusing on the key points; and was empathetic and realistic. I valued his advice and would recommend him without hesitation. Dan is the definition of a true professional.

I was referred to Dan from multiple sources, even from across country. He was very clear in the process, set real expectations and navigated me through what was an unnecessarily contention process by the other party and their counsel. Due to his forthrightness, thoroughness, professionalism, and experience, I am happily divorced with a fair, data-driven settlement that I can more than live with.

Dan York was successful at quashing a restraining order against me and replacing it with one that protected me and my child. He showed throughout his work and communication with me to have high moral values. He is energetic and great under fire. That said once he successfully puts out the flames you might have to reach out to finish out the mundane aspects of wrapping up your case. He will be sure to always respond when you reach out, and has been supportive and provided the limited advice he could even after my case was relocated and he was no longer assigned.

My wife and I were so very fortunate to find Jim Dixon and become his clients. He handled our personal injury claims with utmost professionalism, compassion, and understanding. He transformed our failed case from another attorney into a win. Jim is very knowledgeable, ethical, and maintains recurrent training to always be current with changes in the legal profession. He is very approachable and easy to communiate with, but a formidable opponent for the opposing side. He is a winner. Anyone who gets to be his client is very fortunate indeed. We consider him a great friend too.

Jim Dixon represented me in a case where I was being wrongly accused of domestic violence and violating a protection order. It was a very traumatic time for me. I felt like my whole life had been turned upside down and I wondered how our system could allow this to happen. I found Jim Dixon to be reassuring, compassionate, knowledgeable, efficient and a great communicator. He helped tremendously in making me feel more at ease. He navigated our legal system like a true professional. My case was dismissed due to attorney Dixon’s diligence. Jim restored my faith in our justice system I felt like there WAS justice after all.

Attorney Max Soi and the Legal Team at Integrity Law Group provided outstanding legal services for a recent Eviction Action. Attorney Soi has an extensive background in Landlord Tenant disputes in King County. Through the expertise provided by Attorney Soi and his firm we were successful in the resolution of our tenant eviction. The eviction process is confusing and difficult to navigate and can be extremely costly without an attorney knowledgeable about the law and required processes and procedures. Do not go it alone - we are extremely appreciative of Attorney Max Soi and Integrity Law Group and highly recommend their services.

I met Erin the first time I started my son's and my immigration process as resident in the USA with the support of my employer, she then moved to work on her own and we followed her as we were extremely confident in Erin's knowledge but more than that we were confident in her support to make our case a success. After almost 8 years of different stages of our immigration process my son is finally a US citizen and I was very happy and proud when the officer that approved my son's citizenship emphasized the GREAT work done by Erin. We live in TEXAS while she is based in SEATTLE and no matter what we will keep working with her. GREAT attorney and human being. THANKS ERIN! God bless.

Immigration attorney Erin Cipolla represented our case for three phases of the process. She displayed solid knowledge, unwavering fortitude in dealing with ill-informed immigrations agents. She presented the laws correctly and won favor for our cases. We first engaged her services when she was affiliated with a large Seattle practice and later when she worked independently. At that time her fees were so fair that we were able to secure top-notch representation without compromise. As our lawyer, Attorney Cipolla demonstrated that right is might. She is tough and thorough. Could not ask for better. This lady knows her business.

Erin was extremely helpful with our case. She didn't miss out on any minor details, she made sure she clearly understood everything. She clearly understood our problem and was able to represent our case in the best possible way (in which we ended up winning!). She is extremely professional and confident in her work, Erin also made sure that we understood everything throughout our time with her, she never failed to mention anything important. She was patient and took care of us well. If I had any future problems, I will hire her again. It was a pleasure working with her! She definitely knows what she's doing! Thank you Erin!

Well experienced and professional. They know the ups and downs of the immigration very well. I had a very complicated case with USCIS and was desperate holding NOID letter in my hand when I reached out to Mr Gibbs. He and his team turned things around beyond my imagination. Mr Gibbs put me in peace of mind first and got to work with Emily Simcock and got my green card shortly after. I believe if they accept your case most likely you are going to win.

Faith provided her client with a solid grounding in the legal technicalities of the public interest/public health issue as well as insights into how the issue would play out in political arenas. Her advice on stakeholder engagement was invaluable. Faith was helpful in behind the scenes strategy work as well as in public forums . Faith is an outstanding mediator. Her knowledge of the law is unmatched and her work ethic is legendary. She does a ton of work before the mediation so that she knows your case and is ready to get to work. She is also exceptionally gifted at determining what is really motivating the parties - what they need to resolve in order to settle the case. She figures that out and helps guide the lawyers in a way that will achieve a settlement. However, she also has a keen insight as to whether a case will or won't settle. If she doesn't believe it will settle that day, she will let you know what additional information is needed and then work tirelessly to help you settle it later and will caution you against taking a position that will weaken your bargaining power later. She has a fresh, innovative, and creative approach to mediation. Each time I have used her, I have learned something valuable and have settled a case that I thought would never settle.

What an Appeals Lawyer Can Do for You

An appeals lawyer specializes in representing clients in appellate courts, challenging or defending lower court decisions. If you believe that a legal error was made during your trial or that the court’s decision was unjust, an appeals lawyer can help you appeal the ruling to a higher court. They work to identify mistakes made during the trial, such as improper application of law, exclusion of key evidence, or jury misconduct. On the other hand, if you're defending a favorable judgment, an appeals lawyer can help protect the decision from being overturned.

Appeals lawyers don’t retry the case but instead focus on legal arguments and procedural issues to convince the appellate court to either overturn, modify, or uphold the lower court’s decision.

When Should I Hire an Appeals Lawyer?

Hiring an appeals lawyer is necessary when you are involved in a legal appeal, either as the appellant (the party appealing the case) or the appellee (the party defending the lower court’s ruling). Common situations in which you should hire an appeals lawyer include:

  • Appealing a conviction or ruling: If you’ve been convicted in a criminal case or lost a civil case and believe the decision was based on legal errors or improper procedures, an appeals lawyer can review the case and file an appeal on your behalf.
  • Challenging a sentence: In criminal cases, if you feel that the sentence is excessively harsh or not in line with legal standards, an appeals lawyer can work to reduce or modify the sentence.
  • Defending a lower court ruling: If the opposing party has filed an appeal to overturn a favorable ruling, an appeals lawyer can help defend the judgment and argue that the lower court’s decision should be upheld.
  • Complex legal issues: If your case involves complicated legal issues or interpretations of the law, an appeals lawyer can provide the necessary expertise to argue those points effectively before an appellate court.
  • Reviewing trial errors: Appeals lawyers can examine whether mistakes such as jury misconduct, improper exclusion or admission of evidence, or incorrect jury instructions occurred during the trial.

You should hire an appeals lawyer as soon as you decide to appeal or are informed that the other party is appealing the case, as appellate procedures are time-sensitive.

What Does an Appeals Lawyer Do?

An appeals lawyer provides specialized legal services to challenge or defend a lower court decision. Their role focuses on legal arguments, reviewing the trial record, and persuading the appellate court to either reverse or uphold the ruling. They can:

  • Review the trial record: Appeals lawyers meticulously review transcripts, evidence, and rulings from the original trial to identify any legal errors or procedural mistakes that could be grounds for appeal.
  • Prepare and file briefs: Appeals lawyers write legal briefs that present persuasive arguments to the appellate court. These briefs focus on the legal errors made during the trial and how they affected the outcome.
  • Present oral arguments: In many appeals, lawyers present oral arguments before a panel of judges, explaining why the lower court’s decision should be reversed or upheld based on legal principles.
  • Monitor case law developments: Appeals lawyers stay updated on changes in the law and precedents set by higher courts, which can be crucial in shaping the arguments they present during the appeal.
  • Provide legal advice on the likelihood of success: Appeals lawyers can offer a realistic assessment of your chances of winning the appeal based on the legal errors and evidence from the trial.

How Are Appeals Lawyers Paid?

Appeals lawyers typically charge for their services based on the complexity of the appeal and the amount of work required to prepare briefs and present arguments. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rate: Many appeals lawyers charge by the hour due to the significant amount of research, writing, and preparation involved in appeals. Hourly rates can range from $200 to $600 or more, depending on the lawyer’s experience and the case’s complexity.
  • Flat fee: For some straightforward appeals, a lawyer may charge a flat fee that covers all the work necessary to complete the appeal.
  • Retainer fee: In complex or high-stakes appeals, a lawyer may require a retainer, an upfront payment that covers the initial stages of the appeal. The lawyer then bills against this retainer for ongoing work.

It's important to discuss fees and costs upfront with your lawyer during the initial consultation to ensure you understand the financial commitment involved.

How Much Does an Appeals Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring an appeals lawyer varies depending on factors such as the complexity of the case, the lawyer’s experience, and the amount of work involved. General cost estimates include:

  • Straightforward appeals: For simpler appeals, such as those involving minor legal errors, fees can range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on the scope of work.
  • Complex appeals: Appeals that involve complicated legal issues, multiple grounds for appeal, or high-stakes outcomes can cost anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, especially if the case requires extensive legal research, brief writing, and oral arguments.
  • Hourly rates: Many appeals lawyers charge hourly rates ranging from $200 to $600 per hour, with higher rates often associated with more experienced attorneys or particularly challenging cases.

Before proceeding with your appeal, it’s crucial to ask for a clear estimate of the costs involved so you can budget appropriately.

Top Questions to Ask an Appeals Lawyer

Before hiring an appeals lawyer, it’s essential to ask questions to ensure they are well-suited for your case and that you understand the appeals process. Important questions include:

  1. What experience do you have with appeals?
Ensure the lawyer has substantial experience handling appellate cases, particularly in the area of law relevant to your case (e.g., criminal, civil, family, etc.).
  2. How do you charge for appeals?
Ask whether the lawyer charges an hourly rate, a flat fee, or a retainer, and request an estimate of the total costs for handling your appeal.
  3. What is the likelihood of success for my appeal?
A good appeals lawyer should provide an honest assessment of your case’s strengths and weaknesses and the chances of winning the appeal.
  4. How long will the appeal process take?
Ask for an estimate of how long the appeal process might take, from filing the initial briefs to a final decision by the appellate court.
  5. Will you personally handle my appeal?
In larger law firms, junior attorneys or legal assistants may handle some of the research or drafting. Clarify who will be responsible for preparing and arguing your case.
  6. What is your approach to handling appeals?
Some lawyers may be more inclined to focus on procedural issues, while others emphasize broader legal arguments. Make sure the lawyer’s approach aligns with your goals.

How to Check the Credibility of an Appeals Lawyer

To ensure that you’re hiring a reputable appeals lawyer, take the following steps to verify their credentials and experience:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed and in good standing, with no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for appellate experience: Review the lawyer’s website or profile to ensure they specialize in appellate law and have successfully handled appeals similar to yours.
  • Check client reviews and testimonials: Look for client feedback on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to get insight into the lawyer’s track record and client satisfaction.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their expertise and success in handling appeals.
  • Look for recognition in appellate law: Membership in organizations like the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers (AAAL) or awards and recognition in appellate law can indicate a lawyer’s expertise in this specialized area.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with an appeals lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • Trial transcripts and court records: The lawyer will need a complete record of the original trial, including transcripts, motions, exhibits, and the final judgment or order.
  • Legal briefs from the trial: If any briefs or motions were filed during the trial, bring copies so the appeals lawyer can review the legal arguments that were presented.
  • Written decision or verdict: Bring the court’s written ruling, verdict, or decision so the lawyer can identify any potential errors or issues to raise on appeal.
  • Questions about the appeal process: Write down any questions you have about the appeal’s timeline, costs, and potential outcomes.
  • List of potential legal errors: If you believe specific mistakes were made during the trial (e.g., improper evidence, legal misinterpretations), provide a list of those issues.

Being well-prepared for your consultation allows the lawyer to assess your case more effectively and provide the best guidance on how to proceed with your appeal.
