When Attorney Frank Raff took me on as his client in May 2022, I don’t think he, myself included, realized the long and arduous journey we were about to face in the following two and a half years. Without his intelligence, fierceness inside and outside of the courtroom, and his overall genuine support and belief in me as a person, our long-term collaboration and trust with one another wouldn’t have overcome the myriad of obstacles we faced and achieved the final outcomes that we did. I was in deep with multiple OWIs and bail jumpings and was potentially facing several years in prison. Instead, I received alternative consequences which have allowed me to return to my life as a grateful and sober individual with new beginnings. Thank you Frank for sticking by my side and never giving up on me!

After twice being denied by disability application. Both my son, and I turned to Wade Pittman. What we needed was Honesty, the knowledge, and the expertise to have our questions answered so we could understand. Wade explained clearly in detail , he was very friendly, and our questions were answered. Wade always welcomed us in person as the office Highly Recommend.

When I first began looking for legal representation, I was upfront about my extraordinary circumstances. The dozen or so attorneys I contacted either ignored me, referred me elsewhere or told me I didn't qualify. Attorney Wade Pittman responded quickly and assured me I had access to the financial protections I needed. With Wade's knowledge and insight I was able to protect what I worked hard to earn, dismiss my case early and secure enough funds to get back on my feet. Wade always treated me like a priority and responded quickly to every message. He understands the statutes like he wrote them himself. Call him now. You worked hard for what you have and Wade will go to bat and guide you through the legal protection you deserve.

Wade is outstanding. I contacted him in total panic. He completely reassured me and had our bankruptcy case filed within three weeks of contacting him. Much of that time was merely getting my own paperwork in order. I plan on keeping him on speed dial for any future legal needs. Highly recommend.

I had a legal sitution that festered for over five years. Complicating the matter was that I received a judgement in another state and my opponent sought to evade payment in Wisconsin. This mattered little to Mr. Thill. He quickly registered our judgement in Wisconsin and began proceedings. What impressed me the most was that Mr. Thill kept at it no matter what my opponent attempted, tried, or said. Equally impressive was that Mr. Thill kept me informed every step of the way and often asked for my input. If you are in a needs collection situation I would highly reccomend Brian Thill. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I had recently had an unfortunate matter involving property and family. Sadly the situation could not be resloved without the need for legal intervention. Attorney Brian Thill provided me with uncompromising professionalism, compassion, and impressive legal knowledge. He always kept me informed, and I never felt as though I was "out of the loop". The outcome of the matter was succsessful One can never really claim a "win" in such a situation, but Attorney Thill did a remarkable job of being able to make myself financially whole, while limiting the harm to the contra party. A fine line which few can walk.

The attorneys and staff at Krekeler Strother were awesome in assisting my husband and me with our bankruptcy case. Besides being knowledgeable, efficient, and professional in handling our case, Atty. Krekeler, Atty. Driscoll, and Paralegal Heather Reasa Schank were also kind and compassionate in helping us through our difficult decision to file for bankruptcy and the complex process of filling out forms and submitting required documentation. They were a pleasure to work with, and both my husband and I would recommend them to anyone considering bankruptcy.

I am a restructuring consultant and I have worked with Ginger on four matters over about ten years. In every one she has been extremely timely in her communications, detailed and prepared in her legal work, and clear in her verbal communications. She also sees the matter from the client's perspective, so that if it is simply procedural, she explains the why and when; if there are legal strategies to be weighed , she explains the pros and cons to prepare the client to make a decision. She has helped in a unique state of Wisconsin receivership action under which a retail chain was sold for full repayment of the secured; in an out-of-court debt restructuring, which included a forbearance agreement and debt covenant re-set; and a contentious chapter 11 proceeding, where she served as counsel to the Chief Restructuring Officer. Potential litigation in this matter, in particular, was new territory to me, and Ginger's easy and confident style as well as legal-eagle drafting prevented tensions from rising too high. All of the matters were successfully concluded from the client's perspective. I strongly recommend Ginger as a partner for any restructuring, creditor's rights or bankruptcy matter, and I would be delighted to work with her again.

I was referred to attorney Eric J. Ryberg to help with my personal injury case. Mr. Ryberg and his team at Habush Habush & Rottier were all very helpful throughout the entire process and did an amazing job explaining my options. They gave their professional opinion in a manner in which I could understand as someone who is not well versed in legal jargon and had never been through an experience like this before or even worked with an attorney. I was a college student at the time and Mr. Ryberg and his team took a bunch of pressure off my shoulders and made a stressful thing in my life completely stress free.

Corey was the most professional, patient, down-to-earth attorney and representative for our family during our case. She took as much time as needed to explain things to us but also to listen to our questions/vet our concerns. She and Cari communicated so well, I almost never needed to follow-up or check-in on progress. They were both exactly what I needed to concentrate on things that were important for my health, well-being, and life. In the end, Corey helped broker a settlement that gave me some peace of mind. I was so appreciative of their over-the-top service! I would highly recommend anyone to use Corey Lorenz and Habush for their needs!

We had a fantastic experience working with Lotfi Legal regarding our immigration process! I came to our initial consultation with a complex situation and many questions after having done my own extensive research. Atty Fuchs found a path through to meet our goals that we didn't realize was available to us, which ultimately saved us many years and thousands of dollars compared to paths other attorneys were recommending. We worked together to file our applications quickly and were lucky to have full resolution of our case in a short timeframe. We couldn't be more grateful! It can be difficult to know who to trust regarding immigrations concerns and I cannot recommend Lotfi enough.

I can't say enough good things about Sonia Komisar. I just received the discharge notice for my chapter 7 bankruptcy, and I feel such relief and hope again. Sonia is outstandingly competent, kind and meetings that could have been drudgery are almost fun! She presents as non-judgmental and accepting, even in situations where being shocked an appalled would certainly be justified. She makes you feel like you are OK and supported. Her fees are fair and reasonable and she responds quickly to messages and calls. Sonia is straight-forward, honest and so knowledgeable. If you are considering getting your finances in order, go with Sonia; you'll be very thankful that you did!

She did great job and got it done! There we're certain "special" circumstances that we had to deal and she did a great job coaching me and other party what we needed to do. I know it wasn't the easiest B to do, and would like to think she's had worse. In the end I came out much better than expected. Hope to see her again and buy her a beverage, but hope I never need her services again. But if I do I'll be calling her! Thanks, Sonia!

Attorney House was able to put a defense together for my father that was dealing with medical issues outside of his case and would not have faired well in jail for months. He was able to get one charge dropped and reduced sentencing close to the minimums. Communication, availability and pricing were all stellar. 10/10 would recommend.

Attorney House is knowledge, thorough and understanding. I received a consultation from this attorney regarding a frivolous case I had. At the end of the day I decide to represent myself. But if I thought I needed an attorney he would have been my go to choice. He gave me one of the best consultation of all the attorneys I spoke to and his rate was very reasonable for a last min case. I work with attorneys daily and knew he would make great representation of those in need. Highly recommend!

I would like to bring to your attention the dissatisfaction I have experienced with the legal services provided by the individual in question. Throughout the duration of our engagement, I have encountered numerous issues, including lost documents, incorrect paperwork filings, missed and delayed meetings, and a lack of transparency. Despite assurances to promptly address a time-sensitive matter following my initial payment, I find myself four months later without any progress. Furthermore, the individual has ceased responding to my attempts to communicate, prompting me to consider filing a formal complaint in order to seek a resolution.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. Richard is a liar, he’s extremely disorganized, and wasted months of time in a custody battle. He was over an hour late to one court date and missed two other court dates entirely. When I asked for my money back he refused. He’d make inappropriate comments about my appearance or what I was wearing. He is one of the absolute worst attorneys I’ve had the displeasure of meeting, I am surprised he’s still allowed to practice.

After working with this firm for years, I had an extremely disappointing interaction earlier this year. I hired this law firm to set up a trust that was outlined in my parents’ will. I had a single meeting in which a lawyer gathered information from me and then sent the lawyer vthe will to review, with the understanding that they would set up the trust. The lawyer that I met with left the firm. The firm told me that they no longer had anyone who could set up the trust. I had already paid them $400 — for which I received no legal advice and no trust documents. I asked for them to refund the money, as they did not do the task and I got no legal advice, and they refused.

What a Bankruptcy Lawyer Can Do for You

A bankruptcy lawyer specializes in helping individuals and businesses manage overwhelming debt by filing for bankruptcy or exploring alternatives to bankruptcy. They guide clients through the complex legal process of discharging or restructuring debts, represent them in court, and work to protect assets such as homes and cars. Bankruptcy lawyers can also help stop creditor harassment, wage garnishment, and foreclosures through bankruptcy protections.

If you're facing financial hardship, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you decide whether filing for bankruptcy is the right option and assist you through the legal process.

When Should I Hire a Bankruptcy Lawyer?

You should consider hiring a bankruptcy lawyer in the following situations:

  • Unmanageable debt: If you're unable to pay your bills and debts are piling up, a lawyer can help you explore options such as Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.
  • Foreclosure or repossession: If your home is at risk of foreclosure or your vehicle is in danger of being repossessed, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you use bankruptcy protections to prevent this and potentially reorganize your debts.
  • Wage garnishment: If your wages are being garnished, filing for bankruptcy can stop garnishments and allow you to regain control of your finances.
  • Creditor harassment: If creditors are constantly calling or sending collection notices, a bankruptcy lawyer can stop these actions by filing for bankruptcy, which enacts an automatic stay that halts collection activities.
  • Small business debt: If your business is struggling with debt and cannot meet financial obligations, a lawyer can help you file for Chapter 11 (reorganization) or Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy.
  • Medical debt or credit card debt: If you have large amounts of unsecured debt like medical bills or credit card balances, a bankruptcy lawyer can help you seek relief through Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Hiring a bankruptcy lawyer early in the process can prevent further financial damage and help you choose the best legal option for debt relief.

What Does a Bankruptcy Lawyer Do?

A bankruptcy lawyer provides a range of services to help individuals and businesses handle their debts. Their responsibilities often include:

  • Evaluating your financial situation: Assessing your income, assets, debts, and expenses to determine if bankruptcy is the right option and which type of bankruptcy (Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11) best suits your situation.
  • Filing bankruptcy petitions: Preparing and filing the necessary documents to initiate your bankruptcy case, ensuring that all legal requirements are met.
  • Stopping creditor harassment: Once the bankruptcy case is filed, an automatic stay is enacted, which stops creditors from pursuing collection efforts. A lawyer ensures this protection is applied immediately.
  • Representing you in court: Representing you in court proceedings, including meetings with creditors and any hearings related to your case.
  • Negotiating with creditors: In Chapter 13 or Chapter 11 bankruptcies, negotiating a repayment plan that restructures your debts and allows you to manage payments more effectively.
  • Advising on asset protection: Guiding you on how to protect certain assets, such as your home or retirement savings, through available bankruptcy exemptions.
  • Explaining the impact on your credit: Informing you about how bankruptcy will affect your credit and advising on steps to rebuild your credit post-bankruptcy.

How Are Bankruptcy Lawyers Paid?

Bankruptcy lawyers typically charge for their services in different ways depending on the complexity of the case and the type of bankruptcy being filed. Common payment structures include:

  • Flat fee: Many bankruptcy lawyers charge a flat fee for handling Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy cases. This fee usually covers the entire process, from preparing and filing paperwork to representing you in court.
  • Hourly rate: For more complex cases, such as Chapter 11 bankruptcy (often used by businesses), some lawyers charge an hourly rate. Hourly rates typically range from $150 to $500 or more.
  • Retainer: In cases where ongoing legal services are required, such as in Chapter 11 bankruptcies or complex Chapter 13 cases, a lawyer may request a retainer, which is an upfront payment billed against as the lawyer works on the case.

It’s important to discuss fees with your lawyer upfront, as bankruptcy law requires lawyers to disclose all fees and ensure they are reasonable and fair.

How Much Does a Bankruptcy Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a bankruptcy lawyer varies depending on the type of bankruptcy and the complexity of the case. General cost estimates include:

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy: For individuals, legal fees usually range from $1,000 to $3,500. This flat fee generally covers the entire process.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy: For individuals filing Chapter 13, legal fees typically range from $2,500 to $6,000. This cost is higher because of the additional work required to create and manage the repayment plan.
  • Chapter 11 bankruptcy (for businesses): Chapter 11 bankruptcy is more complex and usually more expensive, with legal fees ranging from $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the size of the business and the complexity of the debt restructuring.
  • Filing fees: In addition to legal fees, there are also court filing fees, which are $338 for Chapter 7 and $313 for Chapter 13 as of 2024.

Always ask for a detailed cost estimate during your consultation to understand what services are included and whether payment plans are available.

Top Questions to Ask a Bankruptcy Lawyer

Before hiring a bankruptcy lawyer, it’s important to ask key questions to ensure they have the experience and knowledge to handle your case effectively. Key questions to ask include:

  1. What experience do you have with bankruptcy cases?
Ensure the lawyer has experience handling cases similar to yours, whether it's Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
  2. How do you charge for your services?
Clarify whether the lawyer charges a flat fee or hourly rate, and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs, including filing fees and additional expenses.
  3. Which type of bankruptcy is best for me?
Ask the lawyer to explain whether Chapter 7, Chapter 13, or Chapter 11 is the best option based on your financial situation and long-term goals.
  4. What debts can be discharged?
Ask which of your debts will be forgiven through bankruptcy and which debts (such as certain taxes or student loans) may not be dischargeable.
  5. How long will the process take?
Bankruptcy cases can take time to resolve, so ask the lawyer how long they expect the process to last, from filing to discharge.
  6. Will I be able to keep my assets?
Ask if you will be able to keep important assets, such as your home or car, and what exemptions might apply.
  7. What happens after bankruptcy?
Ask about the impact of bankruptcy on your credit score and what steps you can take to rebuild your credit after the bankruptcy is finalized.

How to Check the Credibility of a Bankruptcy Lawyer

To ensure you are hiring a reputable bankruptcy lawyer, follow these steps to verify their credentials and track record:

  • Verify their bar status: Check with your state bar association to confirm that the lawyer is licensed to practice law and has no history of disciplinary actions.
  • Look for bankruptcy experience: Review the lawyer’s website or professional profile to ensure they specialize in bankruptcy law and have successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Read client reviews and testimonials: Look for client reviews on platforms like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to see what previous clients have said about the lawyer’s professionalism and ability to handle bankruptcy cases.
  • Ask for references: A reputable lawyer should be able to provide references from past clients who have worked with them on bankruptcy matters.
  • Check for certifications or memberships: Look for lawyers who are members of organizations such as the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) or who have specialized bankruptcy law certifications.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To get the most out of your first consultation with a bankruptcy lawyer, it’s important to come prepared with relevant documents and information. Here’s what you should bring:

  • List of debts: Prepare a detailed list of all your debts, including credit cards, personal loans, medical bills, and any secured debts such as mortgages or car loans.
  • Income and expense records: Bring documents that show your current income, such as pay stubs or tax returns, and a list of your monthly expenses, including rent, utilities, and other essential costs.
  • Asset information: Provide information on any assets you own, such as your home, car, investments, or other valuable property.
  • Credit reports: If possible, bring copies of your credit reports to give the lawyer a clear view of your financial situation.
  • Questions for the lawyer: Prepare a list of questions you have about the bankruptcy process, the lawyer’s fees, and what to expect after filing for bankruptcy.

By preparing thoroughly for your consultation, you can help the lawyer assess your situation more effectively and provide the best possible legal advice tailored to your needs.
