While going through a very nasty divorce (3 years and counting), my ex took control of my business and stopped paying all debt I co-signed for including community property debt. I was faced with the decision that nobody wants to make.... I had to file bankruptcy.
I met with numerous large, medium and small law firms. Most meetings were with either a sales person with little knowledge or a paralegal. Having done my own research, I quickly learned that each time I was given bad advise and pressured to "sign up before it's too late". I came across Brian via Avvo and scheduled a meeting. Expecting to meet with another sale person or paralegal, I was pleasantly surprised to meet with Brian himself. I kept him busy with question after question during a meeting that lasted almost an hour. He never rushed me or made me feel like I was wasting his time. In fact he kept asking if I had further questions for him. He seemed to like the rapid and numerous questions I kept throwing at him. He had answers to the questions nobody else did and knows bankruptcy law inside and out. Some other firms I met with told me I had to have my divorce finalized before I could file. However, Brian was the only one with the knowledge and expertise to get my Chapter 7 filed and discharged. My case was not a simple one as my ex attempted to block my discharge and I had numerous creditors due to my business and assets. However, Yuri and Brian got it discharged with no problem. Both Brian and Yuri are the only attorneys I would recommend. If you have a simple or complex bankruptcy, I would not recommend anyone other than Brian and Yuri. The entire law group couldn't have been better to deal with!
Don't waste your time like I did with bankruptcy "mills", sales people and paralegals. I simply can't say enough about how great Yuri and Brian are...... They will take good care of you!

Jason Jones is a fantastic lawyer. Not only because he is extremely knowledgeable in the Bankruptcy Law arena, but also because he is patient, helpful and explains the issues with your case until you understand them fully.
We live in an age, especially within the Bankruptcy realm, where lawyers share the common perspective of attracting cases that bring in a low-dollar, but at a high-volume. Thus, any client that presents a case with a complication, glitch, or a request for extra time invested via an additional explanation is avoided. Jason, however, does not share this perspective.
My Bankruptcy case was extremely complicated. I accrued a tremendous amount of debt, prior to a recent marriage, that on paper appeared to fall into a Ch. 11 category. Previously, I spoke with several lawyers who frankly wasted my time with in-take forms and lack of communication. Jason, however, was different.
On his own time, he listened to my situation, understood the intricacies and took on my challenge. In fact, Jason peeled away the layers and misinformation from others, explained the Means Test, and enabled me to realize that my case was really a complicated a Ch. 7 and not anything else.
Ultimately, I succeeded with my case and would not have reached this goal if I didn't secure Jason's representation. He and his associate, Rachel, were extremely informative, knowledgeable and patient. I must have spent several hours on the phone with Jason understanding my complications that I know for certain was not included in my fee.
I thank Jason and Avatar Legal for a job well done and would recommend his services to anyone who is seeking a great lawyer.

Jason was wonderful during our bk process. It is not a process that one is happy to enter, but he made us feel at ease right away. He had a long conversation with us, answered all of our questions, and told us what we could expect. This review is long overdue. A dissolution is an extremely emotional and draining process period. The best thing you can do for yourself and for your child may not just be to get a divorce, but to work with a firm that genuinely cares about your circumstances and will fight tooth and nail for you. I get emotional just reflecting on how much more I got out of my dissolution than I could have ever imagined if it weren’t for Paul, Liz, and Linda. These 3 ARE the light at the end of the tunnel.
Who you work with MATTERS, especially if you’re involved in a high-conflict divorce with children involved. Do what’s best for yourself and your children and retain this firm. I bought a factory-certified 2017 Kia Sorento in fall 2018 from a local dealer.
In June 2023 at 55,000 miles, I first noticed a burnt oil smell when driving my car. The Kia developed an oil consumption problem and started burning 1-quart of oil internally each week, without any external visible trace.
I took my car to the Carlsbad Kia dealer, who performed all the service on it, and explained this latest problem. I brought it there several times through the end of 2023, hoping for resolution.
While still under factory warrant, the dealer said there was little they could do for me. They advised me to drive the car until the engine died and gave me the phone number to report my problem to Kia America HQ.
Likewise, Kia America pushed back and said I need to resolve it through the dealer. Feeling frustrated, I filed a complaint with the federal highway agency, NHTSA.
In January 2024, a family member had problems with a new hybrid Jeep Wrangler he bought and enlisted help from San Diego Lemon Law attorney Doug Sohn. That family member encouraged me to contact Doug’s office to see if they could also help my case.
In late January, I followed-up and filed an inquiry on the law firm’s website. One week later, they contacted me to set up an initial background call with attorney Doug Sohn.
I explained the whole problem to Doug who said he’d research this problem with other Kia owners and report back to me if he felt we had a valid case.
In February, Doug contacted me after his research, he felt I had a valid claim and agreed to take my case. We held a brief follow-up call to review how their firm proceeds on these cases, how valuation of my vehicle and their compensation works, and sent me forms to sign.
His staff asked me to submit several documents about my purchase of the car, title, service receipts, etc. Two weeks later, Doug provided me with initial draft of his letter to Kia America, outlining my case as supported by his research of this oil problem with Kia and Hyundai vehicles. His letter requested that they buy back my car, based on my damaged engine and unreliability of the frequent need for oil.
In April, my relative settled his claim with Jeep through Doug’s help and received full reimbursement for his problematic new vehicle.
In May, we received Kia’s acceptance of Doug’s proposal to buy back my Kia Sorento. I was overjoyed, with a great sense of relief on that news. The law firm warned me that Kia is not the fastest to resolve these cases and said it would take about 120 days to be completed.
As I drove the car for another four months, I kept replenishing oil into the engine every 1 to 2 weeks based on my driving. The car was becoming more unreliable, and it actually blew a cylinder during my last month of ownership.
By October, Kia finally arranged a date for me turn-in my car at the local Kia dealer, working with a 3rd party firm who handles these arrangements for Kia America. In early November, the law firm received payment from Kia, and Doug sent my check for agreed settlement amount.
Overall, I was extremely pleased with the law firm’s detailed follow-through and steady communication. The staff kept me informed regularly on the progress of my claim.
If you have a ‘lemon’ problem with your vehicle, I highly recommend contacting San Diego Lemon Law Attorney. Doug Sohn has decades of experience dealing with auto makers on their defective vehicles, and he’ll fight on your behalf to make it right for you! You’ll lay out No Funds for their service, as they are reimbursed by the auto manufacturers.

I struggled for nearly two years making minimum payments on my bills getting absolutely nowhere and then my income decreased significantly. I called Olga in a panic. No one wants to go through bankruptcy. It's a terrible time and I was feeling really badly about having to do it at all. But, from the first phone conversation, Julian put me at ease and I knew everything was going to be all right. I have mega-anxiety problems and he was so patient and good humored about it. He surely must have been frustrated with me at times, but he never let it show. He told me I was in his hands and I couldn't have hoped for better hands in which to be. I was one of those people who bought a house in 2006 at the top of the market and then divorced my husband the following year and incurred all the family debt as a way to get out of a toxic marriage . Although I made good money, I was in way over my head and the bank was about to foreclose on my home. I had an 13 year old son who loved his neighborhood and school and I was desperate to stay in my home. I contacted Gary Holt after a friend recommended him. AJ was my first contact and he quickly summed up my issues. Chapter 13 would save the home eliminate the second mortgage and I would be debt free in 5 years. It is five years later and yesterday I paid my final trustee payment. It is just in time for me to start paying for my son's university education. I am DEBT FREE! Gary Holt may be the best BK attorney in San Diego County. I did tons of internet research which lead me to a top LA BK attorney, After my phone consult with the LA attorney he informed that he didn't do cases in San Diego County. After asking if he had any recommendations for a San Diego BK attorney the only name that he could recommend was Gary Holt. My wife and I had a very challenging BK, we had too much debt for a CH 13 yet had issues with the means test to qualify for a CH 7 case. Gary still managed to push our case through the system. At our hearing the trustee claimed he was going to recover 75K in what he considered preferential payments but Gary successfully rebutted that attempt with case law. We ultimately did get our CH 7 discharge right on time-line and with it a fresh start.

I am extremely surprised in Gary's professionalism and communication. First, I spoke to Gary explaining my situation on the ph. Then, I scheduled an appointment with him just a few days after our ph call. When I arrived, I was told he wouldn't be in due to Gary needed to be somewhere to wait for some furniture to be delivered. I gave his office my files, signed his disclaimer and paid him a cash down payment. I kept calling, emailing his staff, and emailing Gary with question's I needed for him to answer, and confirm due to me saving my house through a modification. I gave him money to start my case, yet I never received an email or a call from Gary with an apology for not contacting me with his reasoning’s. Instead, it took Gary two weeks to finally talk (yelling with agitation in his voice) to me over the ph to tell me how to do my modification on my house. Here is a quote by Gary, "I have to hear 100 times over by my clients on how they give money to agencies to save their home and they get ripped off and I'm tired of hearing it". I told Gary, "you are not a modification lawyer, you are a bankruptcy lawyer. I understand your intentions are good, but I hired you to do my bankruptcy, not my modification on my house". He made me feel very patronized by his attitude, which I couldn't figure out why he had one. I am a repeat customer of his and I could have gone to any bk lawyer...their a dime a dozen now a days, but I chose Gary figuring he would want some business. Gary wanted to take the full amount of my down payment to get him started on my case because he claimed that he did $900.00 worth of work. I told him, I believe that no one works for nothing, especially now with our economy, so I would give him half of what I gave him and I will come by to pick up my files and the balance that day. He cut me off and said, "fine!". As I came to the office to pick up my thing's and my check, I mentioned that AJ, his assistant, should receive the money I gave him. AJ was the only proof of any work being done on my file. AJ gave quick responses on my message's to Gary and picked up the phone everytime. Gary, if your reading this, don't lose AJ, he will help keep your business above water. Your lucky to have him!
I truely do not know why he acted the way he did, nor even contacted me by an easy way of an email to answer my simple questions. I gave him the benefit of the doubt by thinking he was having a bad day...his action's proved wrong through the whole process.
YOU JUST DON'T TREAT PEOPLE IN THIS DAY OF AGE WITH POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
I am now with a lawyer who has been very communcative in responding to me within a 24 hour period. They are also, less expensive then Gary was.
