For the eight years I have worked with David on a variety of legal issues that have arisen from being self-employed, David has always prevailed and made us a winning team. I wouldn't think of calling anyone else for our legal needs.

I not only refer David cases, he has represented me and my office. He and Dick Molin are the ONLY lawyers to whom I send personal injury and business cases when clients ask my advice about lawyers outside criminal and dui representation, which is what my office does. There are over 300 lawayers ub Chico most of whom went to the local night law school. Do not hire these "jack of all trade" law firms who claim to be experts in everything or have huge yellow-page and other ads. Do not hire lawyers who add up the number of years lawyers in there office have practiced and claim some "combined" experience or claim after less than 10 years as a lawyer to have been the only lawyer picked as "number one" for a length of time three times longer than they have been a lawyer . I have been a lawyer in Butte County over 40 years and I know almost all the lawyers in the area. Do not go for the bill boards and TV adds and even names scrolled on the back of buses or shopping carts. David and his staff are professionals in every way. Want to know more call me Joe Vandervoort.

Dave Griffith is an excellent lawyer. He helped us to get a great settlement in a very difficult case. He was always very straightforward and extremely ethical with us. Dave is a really, really smart person. He comes across as very serious and intimidating. I was always impressed with the quality of his writing in filings and letters to the opposing counsel. I don't anyone could have done a better job for us.

From the moment Stacie took over my case, (even though I was apprehensive do to the very unusual circumstances in the case), I felt calm knowing that she was going to be there for me, and she was. She was relentless in her representation, and my case ended in a pretrial dismissal of all charges after 3+ years. Would I recommend her to others? Without hesitation! I thank her from the bottom of my heart, as does my family!

I hired Stacie to represent me in a case where I was being sued and she won! Her skill set is phenomenal. She is proficient in so many different areas of law, so you know you are covered when she is on your side. I have also worked with Stacie on several transactions involving short sale negotiations and have learned so much from her regarding what banks can and cannot do to a homeowner which is invaluable. I have recommended her to several people already and will continue to do so.

I own and operate a general contracting home remodel business and David Jon Murray has been my business attorney for the last four years. He is an old school professional – he is prompt with return calls, takes the time to understand my needs and has the ability to break down often complex legal matters into terms I can understand. He has done both contract and trial work for me and I have been more than happy with the results!

My husband and I had Daniel prepare our Living Trust. He and his office made the process a pleasant experience; they guided us through everything. The two times Daniel met with us, he was approachable and allowed all of the time we needed to make difficult decisions. We didn't feel like we were "on the clock".

Aaron Stewart has handled some complex family planning matters for us over the past few years, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. He is willing to do the "deep dive" into the background of the issues to determine the best path, and can put the results into understandable format. We asked Aaron to look into some new federal/state legislation that will affect our business. and are satisfied with the knowledge he supplied.

Jennifer did a very professional job of going over the many options for our estate plan and making sure we achieved our specific goals. The documents were drawn up on the schedule she had given us and she spent time going over the details of what we still needed to do to fully implement the trust we created, ensuring a successful outcome. We're very satisfied with the service.

I have used John Rank’s office for at least 4 legal transactions, ranging from administration of my parent’s trust, development of my personal trust and sale of property. Each transaction has been incredibly professional. The most important part of each transaction has been the communication from John’s office as I was always aware of the steps John was taking and his office always informed me of the steps I needed to take. If you are reading this review, you are already aware of the vagaries of the law and are trying to find an attorney who can guide you through them. I don’t give a top recommendation often but John Rank’s office is deserving.

Anthony has really been amazing! I don’t normally leave reviews but when it comes to finding an attorney who you can trust is really hard. Most of them just want to get your money. When my husband got himself into trouble I knew we needed to get a good attorney but where do you start? We unfortunately learned the hard way at first and went with someone who just wanted our money, who said everything we wanted to hear until he was paid the big retainer fee and then switched up and dumped us after we started to question him. So after that Anthony was like a breath of fresh air! He truly cares about his clients and goes above and beyond for you. Word around this county is he is a beast and yes that is true but he genuinely is also there for you, listens and doesn’t just want to take your money. I could go on and on how awesome he has been throughout our nightmare but bottom line he is the person you need in your corner! Thank you Anthony for standing by us and seeing us through!

Krista had to come clean up the mess that my past attorneys had left me in. She is educated in psych. and family law, so she truly understands and is compassionate to the cases she takes. Very friendly, very professional, and I have had the pleasure/ been working with her for years now and she has always quickly responded to all my questions as well as gave a straight-forward and thorough answer. She’s great representation, a woman of justice and honor, honesty, family, compassion and kindness. I am blessed to have found such an attorney!

After my disabled son’s wife filed for divorce and exploited his impairments by tricking him into signing all community property to herself - as his Power of Attorney I retained counsel. After six months of her deceptive/deterrent tactics - despite being sanctioned $1500 for them - we switched lawyers in December 2021. We retained Krista based on all of the 5-star reviews about her successfully fighting for other clients; but after ten months of giving her the benefit of the doubt, and wanting to avoid starting over with a third attorney, we ended up having a zero-star experience. She did disclose that a few upcoming medical procedures might slow progress, but they caused major delays and seriously compromised her performance. Due to COVID, she was working from home with no staff. Lacking support, her communications with us and the petitioner were mostly via informal emails which were often delayed. There were also significant enough errors in emails to the petitioner, that I began drafting them for accuracy myself so she could copy/paste and send them. Due to the thousands resulting from the petitioner’s non-compliance, I told Krista that I wanted to ask for legal fees in the settlement - but she said we shouldn’t since the petitioner didn’t have an attorney, and a judge would see it as bullying. When it came to making timely repairs to the neglected marital home to maximize profit and list it during a sellers-market bubble, Krista kept making allowances for the petitioner’s ongoing deterrent tactics, which postponed our ability to list it until the market was on the decline - diminishing potential proceeds. Once there was an offer and a closing date set for the end of September 2022, a critical document requiring my son’s signature was emailed to her at the end of August 2022; but with only a few days til closing, our panicked real estate broker was asking where it was. When I called her about it, Krista found and forwarded it to us [with no apology for the oversight or stress/inconvenience], and we had to scramble to get it to the buyer’s broker in time. After the sale of the house, she rescheduled a phone appointment last minute - only to no-show us at the re-scheduled time! When she missed calling by 15 minutes, I texted but got no reply. At the half-hour point, I called and left a voicemail, but she didn't call back until a few hours later. With no apology, she said that the appointment didn’t show up on her calendar, that she had been at the Verizon store all morning, so could we reschedule again! At this point, I terminated her services. Since the majority of her 5-star reviews included her then assistant and go back to 2014 - I am posting this to save others from the frustration, stress, expense, and lost time that we experienced.

Adam Horn’s communication skills are nonexistent. Note: Positive reviews have been generated by his friends. Mr. Horn ignores emails and phone calls. No customer service whatsoever. For some unknown reason, he decided to quit working on his files. He abandoned his clients without resolving their legal issues. What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
