A highly professional law firm! My immigration case had been pending for almost 6 years, but Attorney Shu and his team followed up on every detail meticulously. Everything went smoothly, and I have now received my green card. I am incredibly grateful for their dedication and hard work!

Only spoke to her on the phone and I'm totally satisfied that she was not able to take my particular case. Lol. Kathy Jo was intelligent, down-to-earth, accommodating my ignorance of the probate process and honest. Thank you for your time and your attentiveness.

Ms. Patterson is a true professional lawyer. I have used her services at least three times in the past 8 years. She was always pleasant to discuss my cases by walking me through the legal process and discussing my options. She always made herself available to sit down and go over the issues step by step and update me on a regular basis on the status of my cases. What I appreciate the most is that I always felt being protected when she is handling my cases. She really fights to get the issues settled to my best interest. In all three cases the issues were settled in my favor. Two of those were contract disputes and the third was a real state transaction worth $80,000. I saw her in real action through mediation sessions and let me tell you....she was a real aggressive lawyer fighting to the end for an acceptable resolution to my case. Her fees were extremely reasonable and she will always be my first choice to go to lawyer.

My husband is a small business owner who's business has continued to grow over the last few years. And with this continued growth we have experienced many common legal issues that arise for small business owners. My husband is a busy man and was worried how he would be able to handle the legal issues arising around us. Kariann came to us from a referral from a friend. She quickly took over and was able to get everything under control for us. She kept us in the loop at all times. We felt very confident with her by outside. She is well organized and very trust worthy. She works hard and puts her clients first. We call her when ever we need help and we have other friends who now use her legal services!!!

I cannot express my gratitude and appreciation towards Attorney Maritza and her assistant Yolanda and her staff. I am beyond blessed and appreciative towards her law firm and her team. I was lost, confused and very tired of trying to do things on my own, research on my own and more. I am dealing with a very nasty divorce, a narcissist that refuses to pay anything. He is hiding all his money and assets, transferring to other people's accounts and withholding all his assets to not produce anything. I have not been able to get a penny from him. I have sole and full custody of our child and it has been very overwhelming for me and our baby to try to get a penny from him. I am currently staying in shelters and hotels to survive, since I exhausted my savings with no luck on getting anything from him. He has hired a team of attorneys to just manipulate the system to keep requesting continuances. I called Attorney Maritza and explained my situation. She not only guided me the right way but helped me and explained everything in detail. I felt relieved and I felt I had some ammunition for my next court hearing. I cannot express how blessed I felt after her guidance and how special Maritza and her team are to me. You guys Rock, thank you for everything! My life saving angels.

Hard to reach her, never felt she was genuine. 9,000k for two cases and hardly never spoke to us. Her paralegal was barely communicating. Preparation and coaching was done the day of court appearance, 10 min before court was in session. All that money down the drain.

I really want you to keep this in mind when considering hiring Breanna Slattery DeBritton. If Breanna Slattery is willing to do this to a paid client and a fellow attorney, imagine what she'd do to you! I am an attorney. My father and I hired Breanna Slattery to create a simply trust on behalf of my Father. Worst mistake ever. Breanna was paid 100% up-front Cash. She came by, picked up the money, had my Dad fill out some paperwork, and essentially disappeared. About 6 months after my dad hired her, my Dad calls me and asks me why Breanna hasn't returned his calls or emails and when could he expect the trust to be done. I immediately called Breanna, she apologized and promised to immediately call my dad. A month goes by. My dad comes and asks about Breanna again. i ask him "didn't she call you, she promised me she would" - my dad says he hasn't heard a word from her. I call Breanna. She again promises to call him. Another month goes by.. I email her again.. she still hadn't contacted my Dad. LONG STORY SHORT, OVER A YEAR GOES BY. My Dad wasn't contacted or called AT ALL during this period. Breanna promises and promises me to my face and promises but never calls him. AFTER A YEAR OF THIS CALLING WEEK AFTER WEEK, MONTH AFTER MONTH - ALL OF WHICH I CAN PROVE, I SEND BREANNA A DISENGAGE LETTER, and had to hire an new attorney for my Dad's trust. We demanded a refund. To this day, Breanna NEVER called my dad and never gave us a refund of the retainer fee paid. In my opinion, THIS IS DISHONESTY. She took money for work she never completed and she never COMPLETED the trust. So- let's talk about the other people someone I referred to Breanna. Let's put it this way - One day I get a call out of the blue from a woman I referred Breanna. She wants an "Emergency" meeting with me. I agree. When we meet, the VERY FIRST WORDS out of her mouth were "Is Breanna Dead" - Utterly shocked, I answered "Excuse me?" - Apparently after months of calling and emailing Breanna without any response, this woman thought Breanna to be dead. I'm not kidding. This really happened and in all the years I've been involved in the legal field, I have never experienced anything like Breanna. Breanna Slattery LOVES money, and distains her clients, my father included. My father was a great man. A man who devoted his life to the welfare of disabled children. Had a Phd, and was calm, polite at all times, and quiet. and once she got the money, she treated us like less than dirt.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
