After four and a half long years our daughters are where they belong with their mothers. Todd did an excellent job answering our insane questions, quelling our fears, and letting us know when things didn't look good. Court date after court date he doggedly wrote motions, filed petitions, requested files. Even more fact gathering and pursuing leads, very thorough work. My wife and I are very happy with Mr. Sivia's work. If services are needed again I will definitely call him first.

I found Todd to be a man of great personal and professional integrity. He was able to organize and coordinate a great number of tasks and responsibilities and establish appropriate priorities in handling them. He was efficient, conscientious and refused to accept less than high quality work from himself. He was professional, took the appropriate time to address my needs and questions and was quick and efficient in resolving my needs. He is a pleasant, sincere and approachable person. I would and have referred him to both my colleagues, clients and family.

While I’m awaiting the results of my claim with regard to Camp Lejeune, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with Nikki at TorHoerman Law. She is extremely knowledgeable and supportive in making sure the information I provide is forwarded to the appropriate person within the firm. She is very easy to talk with and always pleasant!

Mr. Hadican did a wonderful job in helping us settle a problem relating to mold found in our recently-purchased house. He was empathetic, knowledgable, and professional. He was also very proactive and responsive. We would recommend Mr. Hadican to anyone for a similar real estate legal need, as we couldn't have been more satisfied.

I did make a request to Tom, but have not yet heard back, but Tom is a very high Caliber Attorney and very busy. I do understand that he can't have his hand on the phone waiting for my call. I know Tom and David and my impression is that you couldn't find better legal representation. I have not been able to meet anyone else in the firm. They're a fast growing firm and will be very highly regarded in the Stl and Illinois on into the future.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience with Flint Cooper law firm. Communication has been almost non-existent. Despite multiple calls and emails, I’ve either been ignored or hung up on when seeking clarification about my case. I requested to meet my attorney in person, as I’ve done with every other attorney I’ve hired in the past, but that request was repeatedly disregarded. How can I be expected to trust a firm that refuses to explain things clearly? What’s worse is that I feel like I’m being retaliated against because I contacted the Illinois Bar Association for advice. Since then, the lack of communication has only worsened, which feels highly unethical and unprofessional. Retaliation against a client for seeking help from the Bar? That’s unacceptable. There have been far too many red flags throughout my case. I’ve started to believe this firm is more interested in maximizing their fees than actually looking out for my best interests. They’ve even contacted my medical providers without my consent after I made it clear I would handle those bills myself. If you value open communication, transparency, and ethical behavior from your legal representatives, I strongly advise you to avoid Flint Cooper. My experience has left me feeling devalued and exploited.

My wife was diagnosed with and eventually died from Peritoneal Mesothelioma, a rare type of this disease. I was contacted by a national law firm specializing in Mesothelioma cases. A partner from that firm came and interviewed my wife about her condition. After the interview he stated he didn’t believe we had much of a case and most likely would receive little or no compensation. A family friend recommended Lawrence Holcomb at the Flint Law firm. We contacted Lawrence and made an appointment for him to come to our home in Pinehurst, NC to discuss our situation. He was very professional, friendly and meticulous. He advised us that in his opinion we would be eligible for a sizable amount of compensation. Lawrence assured us that he and his firm would work diligently to secure the compensation we were entitled to. During the process Lawrence was our primary contact and always returned our calls personally. On another level he was saddened by Maureen’s passing and gave comfort to the family. He then personally guided me through the paperwork necessary to keep the processing of each settlement on track. The end result was that our family received hundreds of thousands of dollars as compensation. I wholeheartedly recommend the Flint Law Firm and suggest you speak to Lawrence Holcomb. If you are fortunate enough to have him handle your case you can be assured of the best possible outcome. He delivers on what he says.

I wish I could talk to Kiara Moore. Her experience is a lot like ours and I'm not sure what to do. Im so close to hiring another attorney. I think it's odd that to get good reviews they have to have their employees to do it. I would not recommend anyone from this law firm. Please do not hire any of these lawyers they are not worth it. I'm so sorry if you do or have already done so. They don't care about you and do not care if you have enough money even to survive or not. They are holding on to thousands of your money. They probably are using your money to pay their employees and pockets the rest. Just please don't use anyone in this law firm. I wouldn't give them one star but I had to to be able to post this.

They are just out for money. They will not try to do anything to resolve your case. They go through the motions and do not have your back. Which in the end just cost you more money. Find a lawyer that will actually send the things to a person console and fight for you. 25k down the drain. Thanks, Cordell and Cordell

This review is only for Embrich. My sister and I had a “simple” estate case after we lost our father. Embrich had a great first appointment with us and then disappeared. The estate contained only a house and a car. We do not live in the state of Illinois and were both 3 hours away In opposite directions. This was a non contested estate with a lawyer prepared will. Embrich “lost our email” more than once, failed to file the will in the time stated within the first meeting after we drove 3 hours to place it under her door. Yes, we were told to slide our father’s last will and testament under her door. She rescheduled a court date and told us the judge rescheduled it. We found out from the clerk at the courthouse this was supported by the paperwork the clerk sent us. After the first time she ignored us for months, we thought everything was on track. Nope, she forgot us again when she left her firm to start this new one and failed to contact us. In fact, any contact we did have with her was only because we initiated it and we have pages of documentation. This “simple” estate case lasted well over a year. During a period of grief, she caused months of additional stress and lack of closure due to her client neglect.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
