Attorney Rudisill was patient and humanistic, she took time to really listen and responded extremely quickly. I was so happy that I was able to find this opportunity to ask my questions without fear of being intimidated by a fast talking attorney. I would definitely seek Attorney Rudisill out again on any legal action. Thanks so much for your information. It seems like the attorney's that have been in the business the longest are the ones that leave the snappy responses and expect you to just understand why they say such...Attorney Rudisill took the time to be as thorough as possible and helped me understand what I may need to consider before moving to my next step.

Unfortunately, my location was too far for her to travel to and represent me, she was very helpful in answering my questions and helped me know what I should do from now on. She was very helpful and friendly when I asked her questions (even the ones that seemed dumb) and I would've definitely go to her if I had any other issues if she works in my area.

I'm from Raleigh, so I happened to find Attorney Rudisill online. The absolute best decision I made! I only had questions at first. She took the time to explain things and even answered questions I didn't know I had. She took on piecework for me and was very reasonable, not trying to charge for more. Attorney Rudisill is very knowledgeable and helped me to come to a beneficial resolve, I would highly recommend her services.

John goes beyond what you expect from a lawyer. I rarely write reviews, but had to because of all John did for us. My husband and I are average working people, and he provided PERFECT service for us. He looks out for your best interest ... even if you don't know what it is at the time! He truly cared about us. Smart as a whip and knows exactly how to deal with situations and how the courts work. He talks straight about your case, and communicated with us personally and acted in a super timely way. We were so impressed by his kindness, sense of humor, and felt comfortable and found him trustworthy from the start. We are proud to have him as a lawyer and feel so blessed we were referred to him. You won't go wrong with John. He is for REAL and a great man and lawyer.

I can not say enough about this firms professionalism and performance. Like many, I was caught in one of the infamous North Carolina speed traps on a Holiday weekend. To my surprise, I was inundated with mailings from local Cumberland County attorney's wishing to represent me. Unwilling to accept solicitations, I went on line and extensively researched Cumberland County area lawyers and selected Matthew Plyler based on his outstanding reviews, years serving in Cumberland County, and UNC law education (trust me, this matters)....all of which go a long way to securing intimate knowledge of the local legal system and its players. The result was a complete dismissal which was more than I could have hoped for. My advice to anyone else who requires an attorney in North Carolina, ignore the marketing letters and call Plyler Law Firm with your first call.

I recently worked with Deanna Coleman to draft estate and trust documents for my husband and me. She was very thorough, took the time to look at alternative ways to write the language in our plan, and worked directly with various organizations we wanted to include in our plan. Her time and attention to detail were much appreciated. She is an attorney that really cares about her clients and wants to do well for them. I highly recommend her for any of your estate planning needs.

I worked with Mr. Foster in the area of business law with some individuals completing an Asset Purchase Agreement for a business I was dissolving. I felt Mr. Foster was trustworthy and authentic. Communication felt very genuine and I felt he was looking out for everyone's best interests and not just rolling through things with another "customer". He took the time to ask questions and get a thorough understanding of our needs in the contract we were putting together. I worked with another firm in town that definitely made it clear I was just another check in their bank account. I got the feeling from Mr. Foster that he was sincere in his passion for the practice of law and he was good at what he does. I highly recommend this lawyer.

Jeff was the perfect person I needed to talk to! My case was a little complicated because we are planning to move so my best option was to start my process with someone where we’re moving to. I got all my questions answered and he guided me to the right direction I needed to go. He was able to throw out some name, numbers and where I can look to do my own research. I appreciated how well he was able to explain everything and his time.

Mr. Jeff is a great lawyer to have on your side. He was patient in explaining our charges and what we were looking at as far as proceeding with our case. He was able to give us the best deal and has a very personable relationship in working with the big guys in the court house. Don’t hesitate to look into hiring him, he will absolutely help you wether it’s traffic charges up to a criminal defense lawyer like he was for us. We were able to afford a great lawyer for a good price, if anything we didn’t pay him enough!

I had a terrible experience with this lawyer and primarily because of his communication. I met with Mr. Pennink to have him help me draft a lease and review paperwork for a sale. I expressly communicated with him my concerns on keeping costs low and repeated specifically my expectations on what I wanted done. I had to contact him several times through email and phone calls to get responses from him and on the day I needed the lease sat in his office for almost two hours while he put it together in front of me (I had contacted him three weeks prior to this to have the lease created). He repeatedly forgot details I told him about several times, details I emailed him so he had a written record of them, that had to be included in the contracts. When the "final" contract for sale was ready, I read and reviewed it and found three essential pieces of information I specifically asked for missing, including information about the pay off of a $20,000 financial agreement. I felt Mr. Pennink was disorganized, unfocused, lacked time management skills, and above all else, did not listen to me. I needed a lawyer that could openly discuss my situation and listen to my concerns so I felt I could trust him with my situation. Instead I got more done with the lawyer handling the case for the Purchaser of my agreement, who took the time to make the corrections my lawyer neglected to include and considering Mr. Pennink emailed us the "final" document five minutes past the start time of our meeting to sign, I was embarrassed and thankful the Purchaser's lawyer was so accommodating. Of course Mr. Pennink still charged me his full rates even with all his mistakes and constant delays. I will never use or recommend this lawyer again.

Mr. Beaver doesn't put effort into cases. Over and over again my case was continued until it was sent to military court. This case should not have ever gotten this far. He appears to not be very knowledgable about North Carolina law and didn't seem like he cared about his client. It was an absolute waste of my time and money.

I contacted this attorney's office as he advertised he was a specialist in civil ligation. His office contacted me and I explained with a full police report I was assaulted, beaten, robbed in a local Motel 6 and I am in a wheelchair and his office indicated they could not help and assist me and I did not have a case. They never stand with the victim. I've sat in cold court rooms as they give the defendants continuance after continuance but as the victim you miss court one time and they allow the charges to be dropped so easily. There is no point of filing charges they either going to torture you by making you sit in cold courtrooms until you give up.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
