I had a DUI 2nd offense, violation of implied consent, and speeding charge. On top of this I was trying to move. Daniel got my case pushed back several months so I could settle in my new home and then eventually had it dropped down to just a 1st Offense and speeding. He really puts the effort in!

I first hired Mrs. Fisher to draw up a Durable Power of Attorney for my mother. I was very satisfied with her work so I also hired her to prepare multiple deeds, a lease agreement, and a rent-to-own contract. She is highly competent in her work and the turn around on the documents I needed was much quicker than I had anticipated. Lauren was quick to respond to my calls and emails with complete information. She is efficient, thorough, and a pleasure to work with!

I got into unwarranted legal trouble in December of 23. The moment I walked into Josh Hoeppner's office I felt like I was his only client. Over the past year, I have never felt rushed or ignored. Josh was nothing but respectful, and I did not feel like he was patronizing me or counseling me as if I were guilty. It was over a year before I finally got a preliminary hearing. In the meantime, Josh was building up an argument in case I was bound over, and he tempered my expectations. He let me know that it was rare for the judge to find no probable cause. This whole year, Josh has kept in touch, answered me promptly, and tried repeatedly to get my case dismissed. Finally, today in January '25, I had a preliminary hearing. Josh knew just what to do. He asked all the right questions and had the right evidence ready, which is what ultimately convinced the judge to dismiss the case for no probable cause. I will forever be thankful! Josh charged me a reasonable fee (for what he had to do, of course) and earned every bit of it. If you want your attorney to treat you with respect and dignity, and do everything in his power for you, hire Josh Hoeppner.

I had the privilege of working with Josh Hoeppner after being involved in a serious accident, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. From the very first consultation, he made me feel validated and supported, explaining every step of the legal process in a way that was clear and easy to understand while being very personable and relatable. His attention to detail and commitment to my case was exceptional and well above board. Throughout the entire process, Josh was professional, compassionate, empathetic and always available to answer my questions. He went above and beyond to ensure that I received the compensation I deserved, and I know for certain he had my best interests at heart. The outcome of my case was beyond what I expected, and I am incredibly grateful for his expertise and dedication. If you're looking for a personal injury lawyer, who is not only knowledgeable, but who also genuinely cares about their clients, Josh Hoeppner is the one to trust.

Josh did an absolutely great job on my case. He kept me updated every step of the way - and I didn't even have to go to court. He appeared on behalf - and actually had to go a few times because the ticketing officer didn't show up. Charges dismissed and nothing will show up on my driving record. Keeping my insurance rates where they are at is well worth the cost of Josh's expertise!

I consulted with Chad in late 2005 about disability benefits. He was bright, positive and very cordial. He sent me for additional doctor exams and other needed documentation. The firm absorbed the costs of exams and other documentation. We had a court date in three months and Chad advised me of court procedures and advised me how to address the court. Things had gone bad up to that point and been a lot of trouble for me. I really wish I had seen Chad sooner.

We just discovered, in 2024, we own less property than we thought. McKinnis and Scott did a deed of exchange for our property in 2005. Due to their lack of research, we have paid taxes on property we do not legally own for more than 20 years. We cannot get all of this tax money back nor the $2000 paid for the land exchange or the $1100 paid to have it surveyed. Willie Livesay was realtor and the impetus behind this bogus deed of exchange. Hope both realtor and attorney are retired and no longer a danger to society.

I had Ms. Newhart as a public defender in 2014. My original charge was felony false reporting. The only reason that I used a public defender was that the case against me was almost nothing. The prosecution had no evidence, only a single "eyewit ess" who I had never seen in my life, but claimed he knew me. I consulted with another attorney, and he said that any public defender should be able to get the case dismissed at the preliminary hearing before it got bound over to the grand jury. The court appointed Ms. Newhart as my public defender at my arraignment. When I met with her after my arraignment, she was rude and cut me off in the middle of speaking to her. I only met with her one time before my preliminary hearing for less than a half hour. She said that she had everything she needed for my case. At the preliminary hearing, the only witness that the prosecution had was put on the stand. She asked him a few questions and didn't argue with anything that he said, just accepted it as truth and said she was finished. The witness said he saw me running at full speed from the scene of the crime, even though I was recovering from a serious car accident at the time. My back was broken in five places and my hips were broken in four places just a few months prior to the supposed incident. She never mentioned this in my preliminary hearing. Needless to say, my case was bound over to the grand jury. I paid Matt King $5,000 to take my case from there. My charges were dismissed within 3 months of hiring him due to lack of evidence. The district attorney had offered me a plea bargain before my preliminary hearing which would've dropped my charge from a class c felony to the lowest class of misdemeanor. I would've only had six months of unsupervised probation and a $10 fine. They knew they had no case against me, as did Mr. King, who was the attorney that I consulted with first. Her rudeness and lack of concern has me seriously worried about anyone else that she represents in the future who is facing serious charges.

Rhoton is apparently having her negative reviews taken down. Her "4.2" rating is absurd. I wrote a truthful review but got censored. Those "4 star" reviews are possibly bots or friends or people that she is compensating in some way, in my opinion. The idea that anybody could deal with her as a client and give anything but one star is laughable, in my opinion. As stated in my previously censored and deleted review, I had a case against her some years ago that I did for Nature Boy Buddy Landel, my friend who was a well known WCW/WWE wrestling star. He legitmiately owed for a furniture finance contract that he didnt pay. It should have been an open and shut case in the easiest type of law practice imaginable: debt collection. But Rhoton didnt know how to get her documents entered into evidence, something you learn the 1st week of evidence class at any accredited school, even 5th tier diploma mills like ASL. She was totally unprepared. She ticked off the judge, who disliked my client but he dismissed the case anyway. He was probably furious with Rhoton not only for being completely unprepared but for her putting him in the position of having to rule yet again for Mr Landel in a case I represented him on. Rhoton approached me before the case and asked for a continuance, due to her inability to try an easy case that even a graduate of 5th tier Appalachian School of Law should be able to do. A school with a median LSAT score that could be achieved by the average SEC basketball player cant be expected to produce much though, in fairness. Long story short my client turned her down for the continuance I told her I would ask my client about. She became enraged and threatened me with a nonsensical bar complaint, but her client actually should have filed one on her for her stunning, but predictable incompetence. My interaction with her mirrored the result any time I dealt with an ASL grad but this situation was the most egregious, a very bold statement. Rhoton will no doubt have this deleted again. If so, there is no legitimacy to google reviews. But google has gone full 1984 anyway, so censorship and misinformation is to be expected on such a platform. The more truthful a statement is the more it must be silenced.

My wife and I engaged Steve Huret for a property dispute. He was recommended by his father-in-law, an attorney that we had high respect for. We paid $975 for the initial consultation with Mr. Huret. We were charged even for time spent going through reams of paper concerning liability protection for Mr. Huret. At that initial visit, we had the distinct impression that Mr. Huret's focus was on the money and not on helping us. Mr. Huret then asked for another $1000 check for a retainer, and he agreed to hold the $1000 check until he heard from us. We then asked him to let us try to resolve the dispute without incurring more legal fees since it was getting expensive at this point. We were unsuccessful in resolving the property dispute on our own and so contacted “our attorney”, Steve Huret. Mr. Huret replied that he had taken on some other clients and was planning on doing some traveling. He said that since he had not deposited the thousand-dollar check that we wrote him, he felt under no obligation to represent us and declined to help us. So, sadly, after spending hours in his office and leaving $975 poorer, we were left to begin again the search for another attorney to help us. We felt "kicked to the curb" without even recommendations of another attorney. We received nothing of value for the time and money spent to Mr. Huret.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
