Lawrence Gregory was great to work with while my husband and I were estate planning. He listened to our unique situation and made sure to thoroughly explain all options. He allowed us time to ask many questions and never made us feel rushed to select the best solution to fit our needs. He was also very flexible when setting up meetings during the crazy times of COVID-19. Both Lawrence and his team were very personable and patient and made the whole process very easy for us. I would highly recommend him and his firm!

Larry successfully guided me through the process of selling my interest in my company to my partner. The legal side ran smoothly due to Larry's initiative and skillset. But what made the deal happen was Larry's understanding of the nature of my partner's situation and managing the process in a way that accommodated her emotional needs through closing. Larry is hands-on, conscientious and committed to finding solutions to legal and business problems. His CPA background was very useful in facilitating this transaction as well.

After the death of my husband, my financial advisor recommended Howard to me. We attended an introductory informational meeting together and decided he was very knowledgeable and I found him very congenial as well. He helped me get all my assets into a trust, made sure my daughter who is my Power of Attorney was thoroughly instructed about her responsibilities, and provides the opportunity for an annual review to make sure everything is in order. I would recommend him without reservation.

In 2005 Howard Lang and his legal team put together our trust and will. Everything was done thoroughly and very well organized. We continue to meet with him each year for updating any necessary changes in the laws or for ourselves. Also, he has wonderful seminars throughout the year for his clients and has met with our children and us to explain important subjects. In 2012 we also added an IRA Preservation Trust. We couldn’t be more pleased and confident that our estate has been handled professionally and all is in order.

Mr. Lang has consistently demonstrated his professional knowledge and experience over a relationship with us of 20 years. He is very well organized and thorough in all of his work with us. His office staff is well trained and efficient as well as being very client-friendly. Mr. Lang melds a strong legal base with his sincere concern about how our estate planning affects the human aspects of our relationships with beneficiaries, executors, and those with power of attorney over specific parts of our plan. Over the years we have referred family and friends to his practice with, what they say, are excellent results. Mr. Lang has also represented us successfully in an outside estate settlement dispute. We now, and in the past, have always recommended Mr. Lang's practice.

We were clients of EBLG in 2010 when we created our initial estate planning documents. We now live in Arizona and miss the counseling, hand-holding and valuable information EBLG provided to us. Your professionalism and thoroughness spoiled us!

Kristie Cary Fingerhut has been my lawyer since 2016. She is ethical, professional, educated and well-versed in her field, empathetic, personable, and trustworthy. She has been a lifeboat of calm and safety in the storm of family court. Kristie is always 100% prepared for court appearances and is thorough and prompt in relaying information to me. She responds to my communication in a timely manner. She is a shining example of what a family law attorney should be. I could not have found a better lawyer and am forever indebted to Kristie for the exemplary work she has put into my case.

If I could give ZERO STARS, i would. Our first appointment was set for 9-19-2024-You canceled. I contacted you on 10-15 to ask why you had not gotten back to me to set up another appointment. Of course, later that day you finally were ready to send me some alternative dates. You're a joke and your service is a joke. I'm going to make sure that people who seek you out are aware of how you conduct business and refer your clients to other lawyers. We made it clear!!! NO LAWYERS!!! Did you even review the intake forms? I feel you didn’t. As we know for a fact you didn’t review any emails that I sent with financial information. This was proven when you told my wife that you were still waiting for the paperwork that I had already sent you. You made me look like I was trying to hide something for her. Get yourself organized before your meetings and "Ive had a long day with meetings" is not excuse!! Our expectation was exactly what we had discussed prior to hiring you: You were to go through our financials and put together a few fair options for either one of us consider to be fair and amicable. I know I made it clear as day to you that I didn’t want to screw my wife of 37 years over. I told you I wanted her to live a comfortable life, for the rest of her life. Do you even take notes when communicating with clients over phone and zoom calls? My wife also made the comment that you were very repetitious in your interview trying to milk the clock. I guess you are ONE OF THOSE!! I would have never thought over a first zoom meeting with you that you would refer a lawyer to help out. We came to you to save money opposed to hiring two attorneys to represent us through our divorce. I made it very clear to you and I believe my wife did also that we don't want any attorneys involved just mediation!! You also seem to be unorganized and obviously overworked. You should probably consider retiring. You may want to also update your picture on your website- I sat and wondered last night what type of Kickback you’re getting from the attorney you referred.?? I also plan on letting the Judge O’Malley know in courtroom 401 what you're all about. I also plan on contacting the Illinois State Bar Association, Family Mediation @ Illinois State Bar Association, Mediation Council of Illinois and the Chicago Center for Family Health. God bless you I don't know how you can sleep at night but you'll have to face someone at the golden gates eventually. ________________________________________

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
