Normally I wouldn't leave a review in my particular situation. See I wanted to hire Mr Runkle after hearing what a great job he did for a friend of mine. Then we spoke and immediately I got a over whelming sense that he was the guy for the job. Only problem was. I was broke. Just buying a house and moving off grid. I went over my budgets and was struggling. Not to mention I'm kinda stubborn feeling like it shouldn't cost me a fortune because I'm innocent. My father offered me money but I was to proud to accept it. Not wanting his money to go to waist on me. Joe understood my feelings on it. He gave me some options. Was very professional and kind even knowing I couldn't afford him. He told me to call him any time if I had any questions. Year goes by. My situation gets much worse and more complicated with much more on the table at steak. Worried beyond a reasonable level of sanity left in me. In the 4th quarter on the 3rd down with 2 minutes left on the clock and my QB just injured and out of the game. Joe took the time while out with his kids to stop take my call and spend over a hour on the phone with me. Guided me toward some light. Explained everything I had questions about to me in a way I could understand. In a way that I felt better. He is undoubtedly a excellent Attorney and very knowledgeable about law. He must really like his job because he seems very comfortable doing it like second nature. He even was willing to drive to my city hours away sleep in a motel and jump right in picking up wear my injured QB left off at the last minute for me knowing I was in a bad place. I knew I couldn't afford to ask him to do that. But he sure did offer and helped me every bit that he could over the phone. Made me feel better. I offered him money for his time as we talked a few times in total. But he refused to accept it. He doesn't realize it yet and may never. But the way he carried himself with me. Has earned him the most valuable thing I have to offer anyone. My friendship. Thank you Joe. If I had money to pay you. Your hands down the Attorney I would pick for any legal matter I have for the rest of my life. Your fees are very reasonable and lower then most that don't give me half the good feeling and impression that I get with you. You are obviously a champion of freedom and justice. If You ever find yourself in need in my areas of expertise. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me. God bless.

I was in need of establishing a trust and will; very important items to take care of. Although I'm sure I could have got this done for less money, the attention to detail and addressing possible future scenarios was very impressive. I'm a firm believer of you get what you pay for and I'm convinced that the Filippi Law Firm's experience with estate planning truly shows in the documents they prepared for me. I'm very happy with the results and I feel better knowing this important item has been taken care of so thoroughly!

My experience with Ben was not a good one. My chief complaint is that he is NOT good at communicating the status of the case, returning phone calls or emails. I was told all inquiries would receive a response within a “ reasonable amount of time”, which translates to when he made it a priority to get back to me. This lack of communication led to a degradation of our communications with one another as I had no idea if he was following deadlines or not. Example, at our first court hearing I had called and emailed Ben regarding the hearing and I did not hear back from him until the morning of the hearing, which is unacceptable. A reasonable amount of time is 24-48 hours. This never happened and a typical response back was 5-7 days which did not work for me. Deadlines and follow through were another issue. I feel overall there was a lack of preparation and at best it felt rushed in his part and most likely contributed to why he was not good about “status updates “or answering my questions. I know attorneys are very busy, but this was 100% unacceptable. Also, blaming the client and treating the client as the problem, a really bad idea. Someone from the office should have responded even if only to say we got your message and we will be in touch.instead I was treated as the problem as they when someone finally did reach back out, they would say “ we have received your numerous calls and emails and sending more emails will not get a quicker response”. If you don’t want to be kept in the loop, if you don’t care about accountability and you want your case to take as long as possible, then Ben is your guy. If you want to be kept in the loop, not hear excuses but hear the progress in your case, and have deadlines and necessary correspondence followed through with- Look somewhere else. Ben is smart and articulate but business practice and communication is very poor.

Ben eagleton is extremely poor and communication skills. I asked many many times to be kept the loop on any emails or correspondence with my case. Because he refused to keep me in the loop I was in the verge of losing my case. I had to fire him and get a lawyer that would keep me in the loop.

I hired Robert Brenner to go over a contract I had with a car dealer. The car tested positive for airborne mold. My family got sick but due to the mold. Robert wrote a demand letter based on the fact the car was still under warranty which in fact it wasn't. I gave him the entire purchase agreement with dates etc. And even after reviewing the contract he still based the demand letter on warranty. I myself didn't understand all the fine print which is why we hired him but we trusted him. TO make matters worse when he sent me a copy of the demand letter for me to review after reviewing it I noticed part of it was from another demand letter for someone with a boat. He sent a demand letter that had half my info and half info from someone else. He invited me to come to his office. After we spoke he goes oh by the way you owe me $475 for this consult. Don't trust him he's not up front and even after he has all the info you still won't be certain he's doing you any justice.

What a Business Lawyer Can Do for You

A business lawyer provides critical legal guidance and support to entrepreneurs, startups, and established businesses. Whether you are forming a new company, drafting contracts, or navigating complex regulations, a business attorney ensures you are legally protected and operating within the law. They can also help prevent legal disputes or represent you in negotiations, transactions, or lawsuits that arise during the course of business operations.

Business lawyers have expertise in areas such as business formation, contract law, intellectual property, employment law, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. They ensure that your business is compliant with relevant laws and help mitigate risks that could threaten your company's success.

When Should I Hire a Business Lawyer?

Hiring a business lawyer is essential at various stages of business development, including:

  • Forming a business: When deciding on the best structure for your company (LLC, corporation, partnership, etc.), a lawyer can guide you through the registration and compliance process.
  • Drafting contracts: If you need contracts for employees, partners, suppliers, or clients, a lawyer ensures these documents are legally sound and in your best interest.
  • Mergers, acquisitions, or dissolutions: If you are buying, selling, or dissolving a company, legal counsel is critical to avoid costly mistakes.
  • Compliance and regulatory issues: A lawyer can help navigate complex regulations, particularly in industries like healthcare, finance, or tech.
  • Resolving disputes: Whether it's contract disagreements, intellectual property infringement, or employment issues, a business lawyer helps mediate, negotiate, or litigate on your behalf.

What Does a Business Lawyer Do?

Business lawyers provide a wide range of services that cater to different legal needs of a business. They can:

  • Help you choose the best legal structure for your business.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with employees, suppliers, customers, or business partners.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
  • Advise on tax strategies to minimize your business's tax burden.
  • Assist with intellectual property protection, such as trademarks, patents, and copyrights.
  • Handle mergers, acquisitions, and business sales, ensuring all legal paperwork is in order.
  • Resolve disputes through negotiation, arbitration, or litigation.

How Are Business Lawyers Paid?

Business lawyers typically charge either by the hour or on a flat-fee basis, depending on the complexity of the work. Common payment structures include:

  • Hourly rates: The lawyer charges based on the time spent working on your case. Rates vary depending on the lawyer's experience and location.
  • Flat fees: For certain tasks, such as incorporating a business or drafting a standard contract, a lawyer may offer a flat fee.
  • Retainer: Some businesses may hire a lawyer on retainer, paying a fixed amount each month to have ongoing access to legal services.

The payment structure is often discussed during an initial consultation so you can choose the one that best suits your business needs and budget.

How Much Does a Business Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a business lawyer depends on factors such as:

  • The complexity of the legal issue: More complex matters, like mergers or intellectual property disputes, typically cost more than routine tasks like contract drafting.
  • The lawyer's experience and location: More experienced lawyers or those in larger cities often charge higher fees.
  • The nature of the billing arrangement: Hourly rates can range from $150 to $1,000 or more, depending on the lawyer's expertise. Flat fees are usually available for simpler matters like forming an LLC or drafting a standard contract.

It's essential to discuss fee structures upfront to avoid surprises.

Top Questions to Ask a Business Lawyer

Before hiring a business lawyer, ask the following questions during your consultation:

  1. What is your experience with businesses like mine?
Find out if the lawyer has handled legal issues for companies in your industry.
  2. What services do you offer?
Ensure the lawyer can meet all your business's legal needs, from contract drafting to dispute resolution.
  3. What are your fees, and how do you bill?
Get clarity on how you'll be charged - whether by the hour, flat fee, or retainer.
  4. How do you handle conflicts of interest?
Ask how the lawyer ensures there is no conflict in representing your business.
  5. Can you provide references from other business clients?
Speaking with past clients will give you an idea of the lawyer's expertise and professionalism.
  6. Do you have experience in my specific industry?
Industry-specific knowledge can be crucial, especially in highly regulated fields like healthcare or finance.

How to Check the Credibility of a Business Lawyer

To ensure you're hiring a reputable business lawyer:

  • Check state bar association records: Verify that the lawyer is in good standing and has no disciplinary actions against them.
  • Look for client reviews or testimonials: Online reviews, testimonials, or word of mouth from other business owners can provide insight into the lawyer's reliability and effectiveness.
  • Ask for references: A credible lawyer should have satisfied clients who can vouch for their services.
  • Check professional memberships: Membership in respected legal organizations (such as the American Bar Association or a local business lawyer association) can signal credibility.
  • Review their website and professional profile: A well-established lawyer typically has a professional website showcasing their areas of expertise, credentials, and case success.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most out of your first consultation with a business lawyer, prepare the following:

  • A description of your business and its structure: This will help the lawyer understand your legal needs.
  • Any current contracts or agreements: If you're seeking contract advice, bring copies of existing contracts.
  • A list of legal issues or concerns: Be ready to discuss any potential legal challenges, such as regulatory compliance, disputes, or transactions.
  • Financial documents: If applicable, bring financial records related to the legal matter you're seeking help with.
  • Questions about fees and billing: Ensure you understand the lawyer’s payment structure and fees upfront.

By preparing these materials, you can ensure that your first meeting with a business lawyer is productive and informative.
