He communicated everything that he intended to do with me, when it came down to the settlement he made sure to check with me and see if I was okay with the amount before accepting anything. Matt Bretz and his team handled my personal injury case in spectacular fashion culminating in a fair and just settlement well before going to trial. Their successful track record of years of ethical practices and knowledgeable, effective representation served me well. The lawyer you choose does make a difference. I suffered a debilitating injury in a fall due to unsafe conditions while dining in a Kansas tourist town. We tried to negotiate a fair settlement with the proprietor's insurance company ourselves but they offered us only a laughable, token amount to sign off on all claims since their “investigation” concluded that their client was not at fault. My husband had purchased a couple books on the subject of seeking a premises liability settlement without hiring a lawyer, which greatly aided our case. Learning from the many actual case histories detailed Matt’s book, we were able to compose a compelling and eloquent Demand Letter. Still, the insurance company knew they had the upper hand especially since we were out-of-state and out-gunned. So they hoped that we would simply give up in frustration fighting an uphill battle. One of the books that we purchased from Amazon titled “And Justice for All: Win Your Injury Case with Honesty and Integrity” was co-authored by Matthew Bretz and Melinda Young of Hutchinson, Kansas. Besides the book’s excellent content, the law firm of Bretz and Young was a perfect fit geographically since we now needed a lawyer that was licensed to practice in Kansas yet not in the immediate vicinity of the same town. The stars were aligned which led us to call Matt’s office and shortly afterward he pulled off the road to call us for details. He enthusiastically convinced us that he wanted to take this case (for public safety concerns as well) and was confident in a favorable outcome. He followed up by having photos taken of the deteriorating premise conditions the following weekend and he took charge from day one. Matt is a very cordial and compassionate gentlemen but when it came to his negotiating skills in mediation, his tenacity and experience shone through. Mediation is an increasingly common (and often mandated) formal procedure before assigning a court date that often results in early settlement. We quickly learned to appreciate having Matt on our side. The opposing lawyer team tried a couple tricks but Matt saw right through them and put them on the defense. He then cleverly devised a simple yet effective formula of assigning a calculated value of pain and suffering that a jury could easily assign a tangible figure. Just the mention of presenting this to a jury in closing arguments instantly broke the stalemate in mediation negotiations, leading to a quick and rewarding resolution without the time-consuming expense and uncertainty of a jury trial. Regardless of whether or not you might try going it alone, you would do well to purchase a couple books such as Matt’s to educate yourself for one of the most important financial events of your life. Before you say or do something that might jeopardize your case, take the time to research and learn how the legal system works. Most likely if your case rises to a high dollar figure, you will benefit greatly by choosing the right lawyer to achieve a fair and just settlement. We found our perfect match in Bretz and Young.

Jerry Wallentine was my attorney for a reckless driving I had this last year. My first email to his office, I got a response from Jerry himself and within minutes I was on the phone with him and he had a game plan. I did look around comparing attorneys since I wasn’t from that area and by far Jerry was my top pick. Jerry absolutely knew what he was doing and seemed to know people in the right places. We weren’t able to get diversion due to certain things on my end and when my court date came, Jerry was right there with me. Having never encountered such injury before, Tom's representation was essential. He is very knowledgable and provided guidance throughout the months of recovery then settlement and continues to provide information to us when requested. Our questions were always answered in details we could understand and he updated us with information he received from the carrier. We felt as if we were all a "team"...with Tom as the coach! Tom's assistant, Lynn, was valuable, also. She did not provide legal counsel, but answered questions within her realm. My injury could have been worse physically and would have been much worse without Tom's representation. I was unable to deal with financial issues for several months and my wife needed legal guidance from someone who knows the "in's and out's" of insurance and medicare issues. We asked Tom to take over; my wife and I appreciate his guidance very much.

It’s 2020. We were in a pandemic AND we had a stalker problem. On the advice of responding law enforcement officers to yet another harassment report, we submitted petitions for Protection from Stalking to the court. We clearly didn’t know what we were doing because we were unsuccessful in obtaining temporary orders. We were feeling vulnerable and afraid in our own home and we needed legal advice. David J Brown came highly recommended by multiple people familiar with our situation with this caveat: “He isn’t cheap but he is worth every dime.” My husband and I wanted to know the following: Did we have a legitimate case? How could we most effectively represent ourselves at the hearing? Would our evidence stand up in court? David listened carefully to our concerns, reviewed our material evidence, and assured us that we should indeed seek Protection Orders. He helped us feel prepared to represent ourselves in court. He advised us to seek a continuance should the stalker appear with an attorney so that we had time to retain counsel. We retained David J. Brown to represent us. It took an entire year before our case was fully tried. David helped us obtain temporary orders midway through the year. The stalker continued to harass us and the residents of our small rural community. Because we had temporary orders, the stalker was charged with contempt and criminal violations of the protection orders. His criminal trial is still pending. Once our case was finally fully tried in court, we were able to obtain Final Orders of Protection from Stalking and begin our healing process. Ours was a highly unusual and difficult case rife with challenges the likes of which none had ever seen before. Not only did David J Brown set legal precedence during the course of our highly stressful and unusual year, he did it during a pandemic! Talk about unforeseen difficulties requiring creative solutions on the fly! Zoom court anyone? We got to know David over the course of our very difficult year. He was highly responsive to our needs and the demands of our case. He demonstrated an honest respect for the legal ethics that guide his practice and he cares deeply for the people he represents. He is an excellent attorney and a genuinely nice human being. We are incredibly grateful to David for helping us navigate through uncharted legal waters during uncertain times. I unfortunately, waited too long to finally take that first step to obtaining some legal assistance from a vehicle collision. If I had it (which I hope I do NOT) to do over again, I would have sought the legal advice immediately after I noticed pain as result of the accident. Although, I was reluctant to obtain a lawyer, I couldn't be more satisfied with the services and advise Mr. Geren provided. Richard and the rest of the staff at Devaughn-James are great people to work with. They gave me accurate expectations for the outcome of my case, explained the entire process in a way that was easy to understand, and gave good answers with quick responses to all of my questions. What I most appreciated is that his staff was very flexible to work with and easy to contact, both by phone & by email. They kept me well informed throughout the entire process, checked in with me periodically to ask how I was recovering from my injuries, and were patient with me in allowing me to balance my own personal & work life with getting them the paperwork from my doctors & everything else they needed from me to process my case. My car accident was in 2010. This case was an international case because I am an international student who is from Taiwan. I studied in Salina kansas and it happened in South Dakota. He pretected my rights and explained every detials for me. I really apprecatied everything he had done for me. When I was injured in an on-the-job accident in 1999, Pat was the attorney I chose to represent me because he was a neighbor and a personal friend, who I had known for nearly ten years. Pat helped me secure an award for the state maximum amount, as well as an agreement that obligated the work comp insurer for future, accident-related, medical expenses. I settled into an amicable relationship with the insurer that lasted for nearly 10 years, but suddenly, for reasons that I've never been able to discern, I began having trouble securing insurance approval for prescribed medicines. Additionally, the insurer demanded I consult a physician located 3 hours away because they were "concerned about the quality of care" my pain management physician was providing. I suspected their concern was more likely centered on prescription cost, rather than quality of care, but I knew I needed legal help to resolve the issue. Even though it had been nearly a decade since Pat had worked on my case, he and his staff gathered the information they needed to adequately, successfully, confront the insurance company and convince them that they would not fare well if this matter would appear before a judge. It's probably no surprise that the insurance company tried several times to make it more difficult for me to maintain the level of pain control I enjoyed prior to their "concern" for my welfare, but Pat successfully met and overcame every challenge. He also submitted the bill for his services to the insurance company, who having been unable to produce a single, successful, legal outcome, signaled total defeat by paying for my defense! I don't know how Pat's performance could possibly be improved. Pat provides advice that is reasoned and reliable. His strategies are informed by nearly 40 years of experience, which renders them particularly effective. He is practical, but he never made me feel that I was just a "client" or that my issues were just components of a "case". Pat never lost sight of me as a person, and he understood that the result of the insurance company's failure to live up to their responsibilities, was an increase in my physical pain. Pat and his excellent staff worked with an urgency that made me feel as though they were experiencing that same pain. Who could ask anything more? I give Patrik Neustrom my highest recommendation.

I was recommended to Darin by a friend of mine and it was a great decision. I was T-boned while driving through an intersection on my motorcycle.
